Rosie Duvois was well aware that something was bothering Colette. She wasn’t the best at recognizing when her own problems arose, but she was an expert in paying attention to others.

Especially now, when she knew that her life could be in mortal peril at any waking moment. She never wanted to be someone’s captive bird ever again, if she could help it. She hated the feeling of being helpless, but who wouldn’t?

As she sat in the restaurant with Colette and Nora, she couldn’t help but look at the two of them and admire their closeness. She wondered if she would have that same connection with someone, someday.

Maybe when all of this business with the vampires was settled, she’d go on the dating scene again. She raised her glass of water to her mouth to take a sip.

“So, Colette,” she began after sitting her glass back on the table. “What do you make of Paris in the wintertime, huh?”
