Chapter 23: Chapter 23: An Offering

The months had flown by while Rosie Duvois was in captivity. She couldn’t believe it was halfway through the year already, when she stole glances at the calendars hanging up and was allowed to observe the changing of the seasons.

It was spring when she had been taken in. Now it was the end of the summer season, where the leaves were beginning to fall already and the nights were becoming chillier.

She wondered how much longer she would be a guest against her will. What her friends were doing to save her, and how her parents were coping with her sudden quietness. Mostly, she was worried for her parents.

Anette and Joseph Duvois were gentle people, much like Rosie. She wondered if there was an investigation going on about her vanishing, she wondered if her flowers had died in the garden, and she wondered about what the Madam wanted from her.
