Chapter 10: What Will I Become.
In late 1997, William was researching with the Hope 2 virus when he discovered a test subject who lacked physical changes but has superhuman abilities. Unfortunately, the test subject killed after attempting to flee, but the blood samples were used to create Hope 2.1, a viral strain that could multiply and regrow within an individual in two days. There were no fatalities or negative effects as the patients' metabolic rate, strength, and reaction speeds increased. With this, William gained a tool for creating super soldiers, and after further modifying it to be susceptible to a costume blue herb solution to control whomever is infected with the virus, William began to recruit soldiers in the Umbrella paramilitaries using his spy network, and he found those willing to come under his banner.
Dr. Birkin paid William a visit at the end of the year and gave him samples of a virus to test whether it could be impacted by the blue herbs. William got intrigued and examined the virus, which had an essentially steady mutation effect that was superior to the effects of the Williams Super Soldier virus but had mutation effects comparable to the T-virus. William performed the test Birkin requested and emailed him the results while retaining the remaining samples. William begins attempting to merge the virus with the Hope 2 virus. (This is an older version of the prototype virus created for the W project; the final version will be distributed to all Wesker children later.)
On February 6th, 1998, William successfully created the virus he'd always desired—a virus that would not only give him power but also an infinite evolutionary path for him to steer humanity's destiny. So he called it the E-virus, and a week later, after double-checking everything, William injected himself with the virus.( E virus = Evolution virus.)
As the virus begins to change his cells, William screams as it fills his veins like molten lava. He collapses, unable to bear the pain. While knocked out those superior genes Spencer wanted, did their work and kept William alive and evolving, turning him into something new. When William wakes up on the floor two days later, his senses are heightened to an inconceivable extent. When William stands up, he notices that he has grown from six feet to six feet and six inches. Following some testing, William begins to feel hollow and unsure of what to do. He feels his senses send out a pulse, allowing him to perceive what his body need.
Going to the next room over, where they kept rats for testing, William snatched one up and immediately understood what to do, breaking the rat's neck and hand, which transformed into biomass and absorbed the rat. William felt a surge and was able to glimpse the rat's memories from birth to death. Shocked by this news, he realized why the infected were waiting for them in Hope, Idaho: the spies in town knew what was happening. After consuming all of the rats in the lab, William still felt empty, so he went down to where they confined Elizabeth Green and thought of the one thing the virus would desire.
When William came near to where they were holding her, he felt something trying to enter his head and take control of him. William rushes into the chamber and confronts Elizabeth, who seems frail after years of confinement.
"You're attempting to control me!" "I made you!" William screams at her.
"I am going to be a god of a new age!" William opens her cell door and attempts to approach her, but she uses all of her energy in a final attempt to control him.
"AAAGH! I refuse to be controled!" William shouts and takes a step forward, thrusting his hand through Elizabeth's chest and beginning to consume her.
Unlike the rats, William did not only see Elizabeth's memories; he lived through them. Beginning with her birth, she experienced what it was like to live in a happy normal family, growing up as a child, making friends in school, working an honest job, falling in love, and finally, the ultimate delight of becoming a parent. All culminating in the worst feelings imaginable: helplessness at not being able to save your child, seeing everyone you've ever known die and return, seeking death after holding your own dead baby only to be denied, taken and experimented on for years, only to die when the one who did everything returns to take even more!
William broke into sobs and collapsed on the ground after experiencing those memories. Everything he'd never felt so close together turned him into mush. Just thinking about all the people he's slain for power, the hubris to call himself a god But by remembering everything, he reminded the world he lived in of all the horrors that had occurred, as well as how wonderful life can be. When he put everything together, William realized his goals needed to change—not all of them, but the manner he achieves them. He was going to alter the world and make it better for everyone, not just those who thought they were superior.
He exits the nest facility after pulling himself together and looking at Raccoon City. Thinking about all the hidden dangers in such a calm place fueled his desire to create a better society, not a phony paradise that eliminates humanity, as Spencer desires. He recognized that catastrophes will always occur in the world, but he planned to make them a rarity. William chooses to pay a visit to Robert Kendo, hang out with his happy family, and get to know their child, smiling all the way there.
