Chapter 22 Rich Man In Disguise?
"Stop that nonsense, Lily! Do you want to argue and not go to the office?" Mrs. Jiang snapped at the beautiful woman, who was none other than her granddaughter.
Jiang Lily turned pale and was also very scared. She felt she had said something wrong and made her grandmother angry again. She didn't want to reignite the anger of someone who loved her so much.
Not wanting to get caught up in their awkwardness, Jiang Lily decided to get into the car. Continuing the argument would only bring disaster between them.
"I'm leaving now, Grandma." Jiang Lily excused herself with a grim face. She entered the car and sat in the front seat beside the steering wheel.
"Take care, Aaron! I hope you can work well together." Mrs. Jiang said to a handsome man who had helped her a lot.
"All right, Grandma. We're leaving now." Aaron Liu rushed into the car and drove to the Jiang Family's company.
Along the way, Jiang Lily was silent with a not-so-pleased face. She didn't want to be in the same car as Aaron Liu.
Unfortunately, Jiang Lily had no choice. She had to follow every word of an older woman who was none other than her grandmother. There was no way the woman would be desperate to fight Mrs. Jiang.
She had to obey her grandmother's orders, or their relationship would fall apart. Moreover, it was okay for Jiang Lily to be in the same car as Aaron Liu. The two of them looked so compatible and suited each other ideally.
"How can you make grandma trust you so much?" A question came out in a rude and not at all friendly tone. Jiang Lily was unwilling to spend more time with the handsome man beside her.
"Nothing, Miss. I just happened to meet grandma by the roadside. She was the one who helped me after a robber took all my belongings." Aaron Liu explained without explaining the robber that Mrs. Jiang had experienced.
It's not for nothing that Aaron Liu didn't say everything. He was distraught that Jiang Lily would think that he was the one who planned everything.
That answer was enough to explain where they met for the first time. Aaron Liu hoped that Jiang Lily would believe his explanation this time.
"Oh .... So you were picked up by my grandmother off the street." Jiang Lily sarcastically said. The woman felt delighted knowing Aaron Liu's status was far below hers. "Don't you have a home? Why are you staying at my house?" she asked teasingly.
"I don't have a home here, Miss. My parents are farmers on a small island. That's why I have to work so hard while living here," Aaron Liu explained his plight.
Aaron Liu has nothing to be proud of. After his family went bankrupt, he lost his fiancée and best friend all at once. They all wanted nothing to do with him because he was poor.
That was the most significant blow to Aaron Liu. If he hadn't met Mrs. Jiang back then, he would have been living on the streets. There was nowhere to go.
"If you need a job, work well. Don't mess with me!" warned Jiang Lily to a man who looked so calm but held a huge grudge.
"Okay, Miss. I will try to be a good assistant for you." Aaron Liu said that very politely and also cautiously. He didn't want to upset Jiang Lily and get grumpy with him.
Suddenly, Jiang Lily noticed the man next to her. She felt that something was off about Aaron Liu. Something made her think hard about the handsome man who became her assistant.
Her heart was convinced that Aaron Liu was not a poor man like the previous image. From his well-manicured fingers, Jiang Lily believed that the man had never done manual labour. So, why was he homeless? The question kept nagging her heart to the core.
"Are you a rich man disguised as a poor man?" It wasn't a question but rather an accusation that Jiang Lily levelled at her new assistant.
"You're overreacting, Miss. If I were a rich man, how could I have no place to live and only in your house." Aaron Liu replied in a formal tone. He didn't want to make her think that he lacked respect.
"I'm very suspicious of you, Aaron!" retorted Jiang Lily, casting a glare that was hard to interpret.
The woman was increasingly convinced that Aaron Liu was no ordinary poor man. A sense of curiosity was getting more and more suffocating and disturbing.
Meanwhile, Aaron Liu was still trying to be modest. He was very aware of his position at that time. After all, Jiang Lily was his superior and the granddaughter of a woman who had helped him.
