Chapter 15: Chapter 15

Chapter 15

John's car screeched to a screeching halt outside the police station and he, being incredibly angry, literally flew out of the vehicle.

Once on his feet, John immediately saw Officer Miller, who was nervously pacing left and right in front of the station.

- Damn you Miller! Where's the kid? - John ran up to him.

- Excuse me, Captain Stacey. But I wasn't allowed to release the kid despite your orders. - Miller replied nervously.

- What's that bastard Brown doing! I'll change my name if I don't get him punished! - roared John Stacey, then stormed into the station, nearly kicking in the door.

- Fucking Brown, get your arse in here! - John shouted as soon as he was inside.

He shouted and everyone inside froze in surprise, not understanding what the lieutenant had done, for Captain Stacy had always had a calm temper.

- Are you in charge here? - John suddenly heard a woman's voice behind him. He turned round and saw a woman looking at him with an angry look.

- My name is John Stacy, and I hold the position of captain. What did you want from me? - he was able to control his emotions a little.

- Hmm, great! My name is May Parker, and I am the guardian of Peter Parker, who has been called here to testify. But as soon as we got here, he was grabbed and locked up in a cell. And they won't let me see him! You know he's a minor and that your actions are illegal. You can be sure I'll complain! - May said in one breath and stared at John.

John felt a growing headache from the situation and decided to personally go and let Peter out of the cell, leaving the proceedings with Brown for later, as he still hadn't bothered to show up.

- Don't worry, I'll deal with it right away. - John replied, and then looked at Gwen.

- 'Sweetheart, will you please stay by Mrs Parker's side while I go and deal with the whole bloody situation.

- Sure, Dad. - Gwen smiled and then walked over to her 'new' friend's aunt to find out more about him.

John Stacy was heading for his cell, literally swearing at everyone who got in his way. The last time this happened was when the damn aliens attacked New York, but even then he felt calmer than he did now.

- Open the cell and let Peter Parker out. - he finally got through to the desk clerk and gave the order.

- But Lieutenant Brown.

- OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR! IS IT ME OR FUCKING BROWN WHO'S YOUR BOSS?!

- Y-yes, right now! - and then quickly ran to open the door.

- Jesus, what the hell happened here?! - came the terrified scream of the duty officer as he opened the door and looked inside.

John's heart jumped, and he began to prepare for the worst.

- Captain, you have to see this! - the duty officer addressed John.

- Yes, I'll be right there. - He replied sullenly, and with a deep sigh he started walking towards the door. With each step, his heart began to ache more and more, waiting for the shocking scenes of violence against the teenager. Finally stopping in front of the door, John tried unsuccessfully to calm his heart, and finally peered into the cell.

The first things that caught his eye were the bloody floor and the torn leg. Which made him think it was Peter, and that they were all going to have a hard time laughing now. But the next moment he looked at the big picture and realised that one of the criminals was lying unconscious on the floor and Peter was resting on the bench, unharmed.

In an instant John felt an incredible lightness and calmness in his whole body, believing that the worst case scenario had not happened.

- Peter Parker? - I heard my name after the door opened.

- Yeah, that's me. You finally decided to let me out of this damn cell? If I couldn't stand up for myself, those bastards would have raped me, on orders from your Lieutenant Brown, by the way! - I immediately lashed out at the lawman who walked in.

- My name is John Stacey, I'm a police captain at this police station. Don't worry, we're going to get to the bottom of this whole situation, and we're going to punish everyone responsible! Now you can go home.

- What do you mean go home, shouldn't I have testified? After all, I'm accused of beating up two guys!

- Don't worry about it. My daughter Gwen has already given me proof that you were only defending yourself. By the way, you can see it on the net, because one of your classmates recorded the video. And those who reported you will be severely punished, because they wanted to accuse you of the crime they had committed. - John quickly explained the situation.

- Wait, you are Gwen's father? - I abruptly changed my behaviour so as not to be rude.

- Yes, my daughter praised you. And I can see that it's not for nothing. - He cast a fleeting glance at the perpetrator with the fracture.

- Well, in that case, that changes everything. I will not write any statement of complaint, but I hope that you will sort everything out and punish all those who are guilty of this arbitrary behaviour.

- I promise, and now we're going out. I'll take you and your aunt home.

As I walked out into the lobby, I saw Aunt May talking to Gwen. They both had smiles on their faces and were chirping happily about something.

- Hi Gwen! - I called out to the girl I really liked.

- Hi Peter, is everything okay? - She smiled at me, and Aunt May tactfully stepped aside, seeing that I was fine.

- As you can see, I'm in one piece and out of harm's way. And it's all thanks to you! - I smiled. At that moment I felt a small change in myself, after which Gwen's face turned a little red and she got closer to me.

I realised that something was wrong, so I tried to calm my emotions from seeing her. It didn't happen right away, but Gwen seemed to return to normal.

I realised that there was something wrong with my body, because I hadn't had my body scanned since I got my powers. So I put that question at the top of my list.

- Well, I think we should get going before it gets too late. - John interrupted our staring, to Aunt May's laughter. Gwen and I smiled embarrassedly and headed for the exit. I wasn't smiling to myself, though. I could literally feel Gwen's sympathy for me. But I didn't want her to fall in love with me because of an obscure phenomenon, so I was determined to figure it all out....
