Chapter 107: Chapter 107: Bridget 1

Simon was the last person to arrive the dinning hall. Everyone was already seated when he stepped in including little Jack. He quickly took his seat at the head of the table. Emily was seated to his right while Bridget sat to his left. Anna sat beside her mother and jack beside her while Paige sat beside Bridget. The table was unusually quiet contrary to the usual chatter filled dinning moments at the Mansion. "Good evening everyone. Mum, Aunt." Simon greeted. He nodded at his sister and Paige with a warm smile.

"Good evening son." Emily replied.

"Good evening my d.a.r.l.i.n.g son." Bridget replied touching Simon's arm and eyeing Emily who silently ignored her.

"Can we eat please?" Anna asked obviously irritated by Bridget's behavior.

"Of course." Simon replied. Jack's tiny voice blazzed in the background as he said a loud prayer for their food and everybody chorused an 'Amen' before they commenced eating. "I thought your father will be joining us for dinner today Jack?" He directed his question to Jack.

"I thought so too." Jack replied. "But when I asked him, he said that most of the guards were having dinner and he will only eat when they are done and he is sure that there is security in place. My daddy is so smart and calculated. Anna said he ensures everyone's safety and he is so selfless and I don't even doubt her." He continued. "I would really love to be like him when I grow up but I'm so bad at mathematics." Jack complained causing a roar of laughter.

Simon smiled at his naiveness. "Is your father good at Mathematics?" He asked.

"Very good." Anna replied smiling unknowingly. The sudden quietness in the room and Simon's glare made her realize that she actually said it out loud. She quickly focused on her food ignoring her brother's glare and the mocking stare from Bridget.

"Who cooked this tasteless food?" Bridget finally asked when she could no longer hold it. True to her words, the pumpkin soup wasn't so tasty or up to the standard of the meal she was used to. But it wasn't so bad either. It was just average. Bridget pushed the soup aside. "This is food poisoning." She protested.

"Would you want the cook to make something else for you?" Simon asked her.

She kept calm for a while watching everyone on the table and was shocked to see them still eating their meal. "I'm fine son." She told Simon. "Why are you all still eating the soup like your life depend on it? Are your tongues not working? Can't you feel the taste?" She asked them unable to understand why they were still eating comfortably.

"The food is not that bad Bridget." Emily replied still eating.

"Hmm, I guess you haven't tasted good food before." Bridget said without flinching words. "Can you even cook?" She asked Emily.

"Do not talk to my mother in such manner." Anna warned. "She is your hostess, show some respect please.

This angered Bridget and she sparked. "I am several years older than your mother young lady. Even my younger sister who your mother's murderer ex husband murdered in cold blood is way older than your mother. So if there is anybody that need to be respected, it should be me, Miss lawyer." Bridget stated in a mocking voice.

"Do you want the cook to make another food for you then? All you have to do is state what you want ma. There is no need for unnecessary drama over food." Anna told her.

"I really do not blame you. You mother obviously did not train you well enough to teach you basic ethics and traditions. What do I expect from a chronic husband snatcher and  home wrecker." Bridget snorted.

This statement of hers threw everybody into shock. Paige who was seated beside her couldn't help but cast a sideways look at her. Anna became so angry that she dropped her cutleries and looked at her brother who signaled her to remain calm. "You are very stupid Bridget." Emily finally spoke up.

"What did you just say to me?" Bridget fumed.

"You heard me," Emily continued "you are very bitter and extremely stupid for coming into my home just to insult me. You lack manners. I have nothing against you but why you keep fighting me still baffles me. Is something wrong with you. Are you crazy?" Emily asked to everyone's surprise. This made Simon smile, hearing his mother speak up, hearing her stand up for herself. Bridget who was now raging smiled wickedly.

"You are the stupid one. Teach your kids the basic training they need. Your daughter was eating that piece of shit called food like her whole life depended on it. Teach her how to cook. So that she can decipher between real food and poison. Just look at my son Simon, I thought him the things he know. He can cook, clean, wash, he can basically do anthing. Can your daughters do same? I feel pity for the family your little lawyer is getting married to. You can cancel the wedding if you wish to and teach her the basic things she need to know before marriage. My two cents." Bridget fired back.

"Aunt Bridget, stop!" Simon commanded.

"Says a woman who doesn't know what it feels like to have a child." Emily said with a stern face. Paige quickly stood up at Simon's signal. She walked over to Emily and helped her up.

"Let's go to your room Emily, you need to rest." She said.

"Sherman take my mother and Jack to their rooms. Have the cook make fresh food for them please." Simon instructed ignoring everybody else on the table. Emily left for her room in the company of Paige, Sherman and Jack who insisted on staying with Emily. Once out of sight, Simon turned to Bridget. "You gave me your word Aunt B, what was all that for?"

"You tried signing an agreement with the devil? Such a useless attempt." Anna scoffed.

"Coming from a miserable single to stupor lawyer who would rather claim other people's kids under the guise of godmother." Bridget shot.

Anna laughed uncontrollably. "Coming from an old rickety, almost dilapidated spinster who can't seem to mind the business that pays her. You've lived your whole life in your late sister's shadow fighting people who ain't even fighting you. You should consider living more dear. You should live for yourself before it's too late. Emily is not fighting you, in fact she is the nicest woman I have seen my whole life. If there is anybody fighting you, it is you." Anna replied standing up. She packed up her plate of food and started heading to her room. "Let me continue eating my poison in my room, thank you." She said to nobody in particular before leaving.

Once Anna was out of sight, Bridget turned to Simon. "Son......."

"Please," he hushed her. "I don't want to hear it. "Keep it to yourself." Pushing his food aside, He stood up immediately and left for his mother's room. He met Emily tucked in bed with Jack and Paige was reading one of Jack's story book to them.

"And the lion roared." Paige said making a roar sound. This made Jack laugh do hard as he snuggled even closer to Emily for safety. Emily smiled holding and rocking his head. Gently, Simon closed the door back and left for his room. All his life, he has never seen Emily talk back at anybody. She'd either avoid you or ignore you. She would rather not stress herself shouting back at you. But yes, he was so pleased that she didn't keep quiet. Stepping into his room, he removed his shirt and entered the bathroom. Ran a quick shower. After bathing, he applied a fluid of body lotion, deodorant and a mist and proceeded to check his mail for the day. A knock came on his door and he prayed it wasn't Bridget cause he didn't have the strength for her shenanigans. "Come in." He called fixing his gaze at the door.

Paige walked in holding a bottle of wine, two wine glasses and a bowl of snack. "I brought goodwill message." Paige said raising the bottle of wine. "Can I come in?" She asked still standing few inches away from the door.

Simon looked at her hungrily. "Come in Baby." He said. Paige came in and dropped the items she was holding on the side stool beside the bed.

"What are you doing?" She asked taking a seat on his soft mattress.

"Just going through today's email. "What do you have there?" He asked stepping away from his computer. He walked up to the side stool and picked up the wine bottle. "Hmm, not a bad choice." He said nodding. "Shall we?" He asked lifting up the wine bottle.

"Yes please."

He poured out wine into the two wine glasses, handed one to Paige and kept one for himself. He picked up the bowl of snacks and went over to Paige. "Can I sit?" He asked.

"You're welcome to sit wherever you wish to Darling." She told him curving her lips into a seductive line.
