Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Failed Rehearsal

"We will start with the first step. You need to reach out to him. Have you spoken to him since you got back?" She asked Paige.

"I have not." She replied. "He is not even around. I didn't meet him when I got back yesterday."

"Don't you have his cellphone number?" Anna and surprised.

"I... I actually do." She replied.

"What the hell are you waiting for then? Call him." Tell him how you feel. Express yourself Paige. If he really love you, be will come around. Just let him know how you feel for now. Okay?" Anna asked pressing her fingers in a soothing and encouraging attempt.

"I'm scared, a little. I don't know what to say to him. I've tried rehearsing the words I can say to him but I always come up with nothing and I know me Anna. If I can't come up with something when I'm alone and in front of my mirror, I won't be able to come up with anything when it's time to talk.

"You don't know that." Anna cut her short.

"But I do." She replied immediately. "It's been like that for me even while I was still schooling.

"Paige, matters of grades and academics are literally different from matters of the heart." She said touching Paige's chest in a bid to shown her the location of her heart.

"Call him, call Simon. It will be worth better than staying here all day waiting for god knows what. Will you call him?" She asked Paige who nodded in agreement.

"I'll call him now. Once I go up to my room, I will call him." She told Anna who nodded. Looking at Anna, she smiled broadly. " Thank you so much." She replied with a smile. "Thank you for not judging me.

Anna smiled back. "Everybody have a preference and it's not a bad thing to explore your options babygirl. Life is too short to settle for basic." She added. "I have to go freshen up. These shoes are killing me." Anna said standing up. "I'll see you at dinner darling."

"I'll see you too Anna." Paige replied.

Once Anna was out of sight, she quickly rushed to her room to give Simon a call. Climbing up the stairs, she prayed fervently that he will pick up and talk to her nicely. She was terrified of the words he will say. She imagined herself in Simon's shoes and smiled. The Paige she know will definitely forgive him and warm up to him right back. She was always known to be soft at heart even if she pretends to be tough at times. This shifted her thoughts to Stefan. "That ungrateful idiot." She thought to herself. Who would have believed that Stefan never wanted her success. Who would have believed that he was willing and ready to rip her off and suck her dry at the slightest opportunity. A tiny voice echoed in her head telling her that everybody would have believed it. Even her step mother and sister always told her that Stefan was up to no good. But she was afraid to be alone.

It definitely wasn't love. What she felt for Stefan was more of respect. Yes, she respected him so much for sticking with her when she seriously needed someone by her side. He was there for her all through as her friend. Life would have been more terrible without him or  maybe not. But that truth was Stefan helped her overcome the sadness that wanted to envelope her back then. Should she be grateful to him then? She wondered. For all she knows he only warmed his way up to her just to gain her trust and ruin her. Suddenly she recalled that he hasn't called for some days now and she wondered why. Maybe cause he got tired or maybe he found someone to fill the space she once occupied in  his life, his "Money making machine". She thought aloud suddenly feeling so angry and bitter.

She got to her room and opened the door quickly matching to her bed, she sat sat down angrily. It felt so bad to know that someone you trust and respect so much would take you for granted without as much as flinching. The heartbreak was undeniable. As her thoughts roamed round the disappointments she have experienced from people she loved and cherished so much, the first drop of tears fell off her eyes. She wiped it off quickly with the back of her hands. No, she isn't suppose to cry for the likes of Stefan. He doesn't deserve her tears. All she needs now is to talk to Simon. At this thought, she picked up get cellphone. Even if they don't end up establishing a relationship yet, it was better to be friends and cordial with each other. Simon deserve an apology for the way she spoke to him. But she couldn't get her thoughts off the fact that she saw him with Fiona that night. They were smiling and happy with each other. This made her drop her phone on the bed.

She felt betrayed that night. Was betrayal too big a word to describe how she felt? If she can use the word betrayal, what then does she expect Simon to use via the mistreatment he got from her. Maybe "heartbroken" or "cheated on." She thought to herself smiling. Again, she picked up her phone, went through her contact list and when she got to Simon's contact, she paused. She tried thinking of the best line to use if Simon picks up the call. Unable to think of something, she stood up from the bed and stood in front of her mirror. Putting her cellphone close to her ears, she tried rehearsing her lines.

"Hi Simon, it's Paige. I'm the one calling." She said to her phone before groaning in frustration. "Of course he knows you're the one calling. He has your number Dummy." She said pointing at the mirror. "Okay, let's try this again." She heaved a sigh of tiredness. Putting the phone close to her ear again, she turned to the mirror and adjusted her facial expression to a pitiful one. "Hey, I thought to call and check up on you. Are you okay?" She asked adjusting her voice to a more softer tone. "Now, this is crazy Paige!." She exclaimed flinging her hands which in turn moved her fingers suddenly and she mistakingly dialed Simon's number without knowing.

She kept the phone down placing it on her mirror stand and stood akimbo looking at the mirror. She thought of what to tell Simon if he picked up but nothing came to mind. Having ran out of options for her start up line, she felt downcast. Suddenly, an idea struck and she decided to rehearse the line before using it. Picking up her phone, she placed it close to her ears and started once again. But was shocked when she heard the voice from the other end of the phone.

"Sunflower." Simon's cold, erotic, satin and tired voice called. "Are you there baby? Is everything okay?" Simon asked.

Paige brought the phone to her face to be sure she wasn't imagining voices or hallucinating as well. Seeing her phone screen, she realized that truly she was on call with Simon. "How could this be possible?" She asked herself.

"Simon." She whispered, too scared to speak up.

"I'm here." Simon replied. "Where are you? Are you in trouble?" Simon asked worried.

"What?" Paige started. "Of course not. No, I am fine. I am at home, in my room. Standing in front of my mirror." She blurted out unable to arrange her thoughts. "Holy shit!" She whispered to herself. "Nobody asked you paige?" She said to herself in a whisper.

"Interesting." Simon said with a smile. "Do you miss me then? You called and I'm wondering if you want to see me maybe." He said with a smile wishing inwardly that whatever made her call him could keep it up.

"Where are you, Are you with Fiona?"  Paige blurted out the question that have been troubling her since she got back home.

"And what would I be doing with Fiona sunflower? I don't do business with neither her nor her family. There is no party to invite her to. So what would I be doing with her?" Simon asked.

"I don't know." Paige replied. "You tell me. I saw both of you together the other night all cozy laughing at each other's joke and you were so comfortable."

"We were so comfortable or we looked so comfortable to you?" Simon chuckled.

"What's funny Simon?" Paige asked totally neglecting all her rehearsed lines. "Were you guys not smiling at each other last night?" She asked making a face.

"It's the fact that a pot is calling a white satin black for me." Simon said laughing.

"Who is the white satin?" Paige asked with a serious face.

"I am." Simon replied.

"And who is the pot?" She asked again. "You'd better not say that I'm the one cause I will fight you if you dare call me a pot." Paige warned making Simon laugh uncontrollably.

"I've missed you sunflower." He suddenly said.
