Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Signed, sealed and delivered

"How about my father's house?" Paige asked." Any luck with the purchase?"

"They are willing to sell." Anna replied. "I will go down to Elfer-town tomorrow to conclude the deal."

"Thank you so much Anna, you and your family have been so kind to me and I am so grateful."

"You really don't have to be. You're been amazing and kind to us too. We are grateful as well. Good night Paige." Anna said smiling.

"Good night." She replied abd left for her room.

Simon stood in his study situated behind the drawing room. The last time he was in there was a couple of years ago before the death of his beloved brother precisely. The other day he instructed Sherman to ensure that the study was cleaned. Today, after a beautiful night rest, he woke up with the thought of visiting his former favorite room in the house. The study was designed in an archaic fashion just like the period of renaissance. The strong mahogany brown wood used to for the reading desk was as sparkly as ever. The chair was placed opposite the table with the shelves close to the walls behind it and by the sides too. One spare seat was placed opposite Simons. He looked at the spare seat and memories of Theodore came rushing back. That was his little brother's favorite seat whenever he visited Simon in the study. He once broke a wrist while playing with the chair. Simon smiled sorrowfully recalling this very episode. He went through the sturdy brown shelves. Stacks of books, documents and newsletters were all piled up on the shelves.

Anna walked into the study after a brief knock on the door. He turned sharply towards the door to see the uninvited guest.

"I knew it had to be you." He said. "I can't even remember asking you in." He complained taking his seat.

"And I can't remember the last time you were inside here too. I actually came for sight seeing." She said sarcastically.

"What do you want Na?" He asked with resignation.

"I thought you won't ask." She sulked. "Dasilver is at Gretchen. He'll probably spend a couple of days there. You can go pay him a visit if you wish to."

"Sit down." Simon said with a straight face. "What else do you want to tell me. It's obvious you have a lot to say. And what's that you're holding?" He asked pointing to the file she had with her.

"The house purchase is a done deal. Signed, sealed and delivered." She dropped the file on the table as she took a seat opposite him. "Make sure to send my full payment for a job well done. You can also add some bonuses." She smiled mischievously. Simon opened the file and went through it. A picture of the house was attached to the file courtesy of Anna who wanted her brother to see the house he paid for.

"They didn't really sell this house. They pretty much gave it away cause who in their right senses will sell this house at such a ridiculous price!" He exclaimed with surprise as he compared the picture he was holding and the price on the document.

"Gold diggers obviously. People who don't work for their money. They just sit around and wait for their  prey."

"I call them blood suckers." Simon told her.

"That's pretty much the second name I'd call them too."

Simon laughed. "This has got to be the only thing both of us agree on without putting up a fight first." Anna laughed too because she knew her brother was saying nothing but the truth.

"Honestly brother, I'm really happy that you are there for her. I'm so grateful. It must have been so hard and lonely for her since she was surrounded by people who are all out to run her dry knowing fully well that she's got a kind heart."

"Hmmmm." Simon hummed.

"Is that all you have to say? After everything I just told you?" Anna exclaimed.

"Annabel, I'm busy!"

"Busy Simon Kentley. Anyway, does she know that you've seen her way before now?" She asked looking at her brother closely.

"What? Who? What are you talking about?" Simon asked feigning surprise.

"Si, please, stop the pretense. Does Paige know you asked or rather convinced Nathan to offer her the job as a live in nurse? Does she know that you specifically asked for her and the first time you saw her was during one of your visits to Nathan at the Hospital? Have you told her?" Anna asked her brother. Who remained mute but observed her with a kin eye. Everything his sister said was true. He saw Paige way before she arrived Kentleys Mansion. In fact, he stalked her for a while. He even went as far as getting personal details about her. The first day he saw her, he was inside Nathan's transparent glass office and she came to see Nathan. She'd met Nathan at the door and they talked.

Simon watched her from inside the office but unfortunately, she was too engrossed with their discussion that she didn't even bother looking his way. He saw her genuine smile and the obvious worry lines on her face. He noticed the sadness that she was trying so heard to hide with her magnificent smile. When Nathan walked in that day, he'd told him that he liked her but Nathan replied that she was in a very serious relationship.

When June broke the news of her engagement and preparations were being set in place for Emily's return, he saw it as the opportunity to bring her to his home, away from her boyfriend and family. His initial plan for her was to have her sign a consensual contract with him for a period of one month. He'd planned for her to be his October or November at least. Little did he know that Paige was quite different from the usual.

"Na, do you wish to become a detective?" He finally asked.

"Stop acting ignorant brother. You know I can easily get information about something when I want to."

"Oh, I forgot, you paid a visit to Elfer-town. Young lady, the agreement was you should seal the deal and head straight for home." He told his sister.

"Which I did." She replied.

"When are you going to Acubana with mum?"

"In two days time." She replied. "So, does she know? Let's not change the topic here." She pressed on.

"No, she doesn't." Simon replied. "That being said, you should focus more on your job. You're a very young lady. Now is the best time to put in your all at work."

Anna bursted into a hilarious laughter. "All the lecture because of a simple question. You already know how much I put in at work. Being lazy didn't get me here. Now is the little time I have to spend with my family. So, I don't even mind being absent from work till Emily goes back. I'm a boss brother. I am brilliant, rich and I've built my own damn empire." She replied praising herself.

"Lucky you." Simon told her.

"It's not luck, it's hard work. Anyway, I'm curious. Is Paige worth the whole stress you're going through?"

"Can I go back to what I was doing before you welcomed yourself in?" He asked.

"Typical Simon. Always dodging the big question. You can go back whatever it is you were doing before now. I'll be looking forward for an update from you on Dasilver" Anna said.

"You bet." Came her brother's reply. "With Dasilver out, who else is on the list?"

"Fred Romero and Ausborn." She replied.

"Let's deal with Dasilver. I'm already on Ausborn's tail. Romero isn't left out. I'll see you around Na." He said dismissing his sister.

"Okay, please stay safe brother. If you need anything whatsoever, do not hesitate to let me know." She said as she made her way out of the study. Simon nodded as she left.

He immediately picked up the phone and placed a call to Charles who was still guarding his apartment at Lakeview.

"Charles, he spoke into the phone."

"Yes sir." Charles answered.

"Alert the others, we're taking Dasilver down tonight. Get everyone and everything ready. I'll meet you at the safe house." He told him before hanging up.

Once he dropped the phone, he looked round the study again. His eyes stopped at the copy of his favorite book as a teenager 'The silky petal'. He smiled as he remembered how much he prayed to fall in love with the lady or someone that fits the exact description of the lady in the book. Little did he know that he was just letting his imagination run wild. There was no such lady in the world. Even if there were, why would she want to settle for someone as damaged as him.

"Yes, damaged is the word." He said to himself. Why then is he trying to get Paige to love him, he reasoned. He doesn't even deserve Paige. She was perfect. She deserve someone better than her boyfriend whom she's yet to declare as her Ex anyway. But Simon knew within him that he was not the one for her. He remembered Melissa and smiled sadly.
