Chapter 12: Sharp-Toothed Knightess

The town mayor was busy doing nothing at the moment, he looked out the window and wiped his forehead with a tissue.

His elegant disposition and in particular, his glorious mustache, made him impossible to miss amongst the town filled with poor people, even his council wasn't nearly as magnificient as him, he was the only noble around, forced to stay as someone with authority always had to oversee any town and anything larger.

His council was thus mostly made up of poor people that happened to be richer than the others, it was all relative however, just like his charismatic exterior and authority in the town.

It could all be rendered meaningless in an instant.

This morning, the doors to his lofty office were pushed open by someone he had the misfortune of having already interacted with in the past.

"Bizinda... What brings you to this humble little town?" he asked with a flat expression, not surprised by her entrance.

In response she just showed him one of the many posters plastered all around the city, pointing at it as if it was enough for him to understand everything.

"I don't follow" he simply responded as he pushed the paper away, as she had subtly brought it closer to his face.

"Gonas, I know that your small monster running around is a wretch, I already talked to that young captain, do you realise how big this is?" she said, not elaborating much.

"Yes, certainly, what is the matter? We might have omitted a few details, although, I wasn't present to know why it was decided to not outright state that it was a wretch" he responded and the woman in front of him just smiled at him.

Revealing her two sharp fangs.

"Clearly, that wretch is a special kind, at least from what I heard, it is exceptionally weird and smart too! The little captain said it talked, can you believe that? You may be old now, but you must remember how incapable wretches are" she said, seating down suddenly, causing a loud series of noises to be made as her armor shook.

"It talked? I can't believe I wasn't informed about this, but I still don't understand why you would be there" he said, squinting his eyes at her.

Bizinda had bright blonde her and blood-red eyes, coupled with her fangs, it was obvious that she was a vampire to anyone with a brain.

Typically, vampires were considered as dangerous monsters but that wasn't quite the case with those qualified as 'lordless'.

This term was meant for vampire types whose founding lord didn't actually exist, they had names and had facts known about them but hadn't ever existed, this was the sort of information most people knew about them.

Although, Gonas amongst others, knew another truth about those lords, which had always made him reluctant to fully trust Bizinda, even if the king had deemed her trustworthy enough to make her a knight himself.

This made her a royal knight on top of being of the vampire 'clan' that was arguably the most powerful.

Whose non-existent lord was called Sun-Walker, for he and the other of his kind could walk in the sun without any problem, to a benefit even as they were stronger during the day.

Not having the most known weakness of vampires was certainly a game changer in the mind of most people, but Gonas knew that as far as it went, they weren't the most dangerous.

"Relax Gonas, you're getting grumpier and grumpier with age, I am just interested you know? I have always liked to research special and unique monsters" she simply replied.

Gonas sighed heavily, there was definitely more to this, he didn't believe that she could have known that something was going on here in the first place, the council had apparently tried to silence the case as well.

She had something to do here and was certainly using that talking wretch as an excuse on the fly.

"So, are you going to hunt for it?" he asked, looking at her pale face.

"Of course, it butchered some adventurers last night I hear, I'll try to follow the smell of blood it would have gotten on itself in the process, a wretch butchering so many people at once, it didn't even appear to be mutated at all the last time it was seen" she remarked, actually seeming quite excited about this anomalous wretch.

"Whatever you intend to do, don't scare the citizens please, they have been calm for a while, don't give them a reason to start burning buildings, so no drinking the blood of random people, striking people in the face, especially the elderly and children, don't look at me like that, I know you" he pointed at the vampire, she just shrugged and swiftly exited the office.

He looked at her going away, she did not close the door behind her as he had expected but that did not matter now, he was certain she was up to something.

Though, it wasn't like he could just have a royal knight followed around like that, so he would just have to be careful of her, with some luck, her presence here was just a coincidence to begin with.

Stepping outside, into the street, Bizinda looked around, not appearing to be anything out of the ordinary, she furrowed her brows however.

'Where is that damn wretch?' she wondered, she had visited Gonas so that it wouldn't appear she was just lurking around if someone reported seeing a knight around but in the first place, she hadn't expected to have to stay in this town for any longer than a few hours.

Her first idea was to sniff the wretch out by the smell of its blood, as she knew what it would smell like but not only was it seemingly stenching of human blood amongst others, it was apparently moving all over the town constantly.

The smell was everywhere in similar capacities and she found it impossible to pinpoint the source of it, she would have to actually search for it.

'It better be the real deal' she thought as she walked away, expecting that it would come out at night.

Sun-walker vampires didn't have dark vision or even night vision but she had her ways.
