Chapter 18: In the name of varda elentarí (1)
'What's going on?'
Jacob was confused and perplexed by that news, why Raphael should not be in the elven kingdom at the current moment in history. This news made him start to doubt his only advantage in this world, which would be knowledge of the future.
"Hm... Did they come without warning us?"
Sindar asked the soldier and the soldier replied:
"Yes sir, it seems that they are also accompanied by the human Astrid."
"Hm, what do you think, lagertha?"
"Let's see... normally I would kill them all for their insolence, but since they are heroes who have helped us in the future, I think it is better to let them in, this meeting will create a bond with them at least."
Sindar then looked at Jacob and asked curiously:
"What would you do?"
Everyone's attention was focused on Jacob and he was at a loss as to what to answer, but to his salvation, rodric had realized this and answered instead:
"Jacob and I don't have a good relationship with the heroes, so our reunion is likely to result in a battle."
"Oh? What did you guys do that was so bad to be their enemy?"
At this point, Jacob entered the conversation and replied:
"Unfortunately we had some misunderstandings with them, which eventually resulted in scarring..."
After hearing Jacob say that, Galiel looked at him and remembered the scars all over his body and wondered if that was connected to the heroes, while lagertha and ysabel were curious about these supposed scars.
Sindar was thoughtful about all the information, but needed a final verdict on all this and asked his wife again:
"Should we welcome them and possibly start a war?"
"You have nothing to fear, If he really is under varda's protection, then in the name of varda elentarí, we will enter this war and fight."
Sindar smiled at his wife's answer and said to the soldier:
"Let them come in and bring them here."
"Yes sir!"
The soldier bowed and began to run out of the room and Sindar looked at Jacob and asked the million dollar question:
"Now that all distractions are gone.... How did you meet varda elentari?"
Everyone looked at Jacob curious, even zed was curious why he just found out that the human was under the protection of the greatest hero of his race.
But Jacob realized that he needed to control the direction of the conversation, otherwise he might get trapped by the unanswered questions, so he looked at sindar and answered calmly:
"Varda is alive."
The shock within the room was huge, least of all for ysabel who believed this was nothing but a lie, but Jacob began to speak before they could ask questions:
"Varda elentarí, the strongest and most important king who ever lived, the hero of the elven race and the one responsible for all the wealth and glory you have today. He had died after killing the demon king and saving the world, A story..."
Rodric interrupted Jacob abruptly and said:
"Story? I saw him die in my arms!"
"Hm, if you saw him die, I imagine you cremated him, so WHERE are his ashes?"
Suddenly, Rodric was in shock and his heart began to beat rapidly and Sindar said coldly to Jacob:
"Elves are not burned, they are buried."
"Yes, I know that."
"Then why did you ask about his ashes?"
Suddenly, Rodric was responding in shock:
"Why did he ask me to be cremated and not buried..."
Again everyone was shocked by that news and lagertha said angrily to Rodric:
"Are you crazy?! It is a taboo for an elf to choose to be burned."
"I know... that's why I told everyone he was buried and not cremated.... And The only ones who knew he was cremated were me and varda..."
The pieces began to fit together in everyone's head and they began to think that Jacob had really met varda and better, they thought that varda was really alive.
Satisfied with the outcome, Jacob said:
"A poorly told story, a cremation and a death...that is all you need to know about my relationship with Varda, And before you ask me where he is, know that he does not want to be found, that is all you need to know before you trust me."
After hearing everything, Sindar closed his eyes and began to reflect on the information he had obtained:
'In all my 10,000 years of living, I've only just found out that my grandfather was cremated and not buried...'
Zed was beginning to get interested about who that human was, as Ysabel was in shock about the information she got and lagertha was just left pondering wisely about Jacob.
Galiel being the first to recover from his shock, asked his father:
"Did you know that he had been cremated?"
Rodric sighed and answered loudly and in a clear tone so that everyone could hear:
"I made sure that no one knew that he had been cremated, so the only way anyone would find out is if I had told or if varda had told and the only way varda would have told, was if he was alive.... Do you guys understand how big this is? Varda is alive, varda elentarí is alive!"
Rodric was happy with that news, because he shouldn't be alive now if it wasn't for varda saving him from the demon king and when he saw his friend on the verge of death, he felt a sense of weakness and guilt, all because he was a burden in the final fight. Knowing that his friend is alive in the present, even after thousands of years, took a great weight off his heart.
Jacob smiled when he saw that he had managed to convince everyone with a spoiler he had read about the story and mentally thanked the user who had posted the spoiler that saved his skin.
Then Jacob sighed with satisfaction that things were working out and when he was about to say something to change the subject, the door opened again and a soldier entered and spoke:
"The heroes and the general of the human realm are entering."
A deadly reunion that could decide the future of the world, will happen in a few moments...
