Chapter 23: Ch. 12 Part 1
Doctor Shi took them to a shop which was on the same lane as his with five to six shops distance from his shop
" this shop became vacant just yesterday after you left.... the owner is moving away from the county so he's in a hurry to sell the shop. You can decide whether you like it or not after you see the inside " doctor Shi knock on the door of the shop as he explained to YanZhi... a fat man opened the door and smiled brightly when he saw doctor Shi
" ah doctor you're back, come on in " he invited them in " is he the one whom you said was interested in buying a shop? " he asked doctor Shi looking at YanZhi and beaming happily.
" brother Wang, yes... this is my friend brother Yan who's interested in seeing the shop " doctor Shi introduced and both YanZhi and brother Wang cupped their hands and greeted each other. Brother Wang showed them around the shop which was very wide and big with a lot of spaces that could fit about ten to fifteen tables and chairs, with three rooms one master room and two servant quarters at the back yard and a built well. Xiao Ling like the length and width of the shop with the backyard.
" Xiong Gong this shop will do... we'll get a carpenter to design the shop according to the plan that I'll draw. Let's buy it " Xiao Ling informed YanZhi
" Brother Wang how much are you selling the shop for? " brother Wang was extremely delightful when they decided to buy his shop..
" brother Wang you should give us a good price... my friend here is really willing to buy your shop " doctor Shi said making brother Wang flustered and scratched the back of his head
" ah brother Yan, doctor Shi.... original I was planning on selling the shop for five hundred and fifty taels including everything for the change of the title deeds... but I'll take off the fifty taels on top and sell it to to for five hundred taels " brother Wang said to them
" okay, we'll take it. I want the deed for the shop today " YanZhi stated
" yes, yes yes... brother Yan shouldn't worry we'll go to the yamen now so I change the deed title into your name " brother Wang said invigorated
" my wife's name " YanZhi corrected us they walked out of the shop
" pardon? " brother Wang was confused
" the shop will be in my wife's name " YanZhi repeated making brother Wang nodded embarrassedly and doctor and Jinhua laughed teasingly
" ai~ I'm so envious of brother Ling, just look at how much brother Yan thinks about you.... aiya~ I wish Dafu was half the gentleman as brother Yan " Jinhua commented in a resentful tone making doctor Shi flustered.
" ai my wife, don't say that... I'm a gentleman man in my own way " doctor Shi argued making Jinhua glared at him
" brother Jinhua you can't compare all men with my Xiong Gong, my Xiong Gong Is on a level of his own and that's what makes him unique since there's no one who can be compared to him " Xiao Ling shyly praised feeling proud which made YanZhi's lips formed a thin line.... he never thought he'd hear Xiao Ling one-day praise him like this in front of others, infact he never thought he'd ever meet someone who'd be good to him (YZ) and earn his once lost trust.
" I'm happy little wife thinks so " he snaked his hand around Xiao Ling's waist and pulled him closer to himself before landing a kiss on Xiao Ling's hair.
" Master and Mistress looks so good together... I pray your love lasts for eternity " Yue proudly praised making doctor Shi turned to Jinhua feeling bitter and envious
" wife they're feeding us dog food again " he complained in a resentful tone as he tried to rest his head on Jinhua's shoulder... but instead got pushed away in furry
" we're not married yet! you only get to call me wife when you marry me! " Jinhua warned fiercely
" okay, we'll get marry in a few months time.... unless brother Yan is going to keep feeding me dog food all the time! " doctor Shi said with certainty.
Brother Jiang walked to YanZhi in a hurry when he caught sight of YanZhi walk into the yamen...
" brother Yan, what brought you back here again? " brother Jiang asked enthusiastically
" I bought a shop nearby so we came to get a change of title.... I hope brother Jiang can help me with this matter too " YanZhi calmly answered making brother Jiang excited to hear another batch of silvers coming to him. Brother Jiang led them to get the procedures done and when everything was finished and the deeds were in Xiao Ling's name, he passed two taels to brother Jiang and gave brother Wang the five hundred taels before they walked out.
" brother Wang when will you move out? " YanZhi asked not beating around the bush
" hehe, brother Yan is too straight forward... you can have the keys, my things have already been packed and moved to another place, here you are " brother Wang gave the keys to YanZhi cupped his hands happily and part ways with them.
" doctor Shi I want to ask your help in another matter.... we don't know any carpenters, can you introduce us to one? and if possible a foreman, we want to build a house in the village " YanZhi asked doctor Shi
" I know someone who's both good in carpentry and building... we can go meet him now if you like. " doctor replied and the both agree to visit the carpenter. Doctor took them to them to a shop which was neither big nor small
" brother Song... I brought work for you " doctor Shi shouted as they walked into the shop
" how many people do you know in this county?... did you just come here to make brothers? " Jinhua asked him making doctor Shi laughed
" hehe, I only know those whom I work with " Jinhua gave him a strange stare as he replied... the carpenter whom he called brother Song stopped what he was doing and greeted them
" doctor Shi you said you brought me work? ..... does your shop needs any repair " brother Song asked politely and doctor Shi shook his head pointing at YanZhi
" this gongzi..... what work do you need me for? " brother Song asked YanZhi
" my surname is Jun... I want to have a shop which I just bought to renovated. I was hoping brother Song can help me with that... and I want to hire you to build a house for me " YanZhi explained
" ah of course... how can I refuse work when it was brought to me. Master Jun when do you need me for the work? " brother Song asked optimistically
" if possible I want to start the renovations of the shop tomorrow and when you're done with the shop, then start with the building of the house. My wife will draw the plans for both the shop and the house... we'll bring them to you tomorrow. You can meet us in front of the shop after meal time tomorrow with your working tools and team... " YanZhi said
" thats fine with me Master Jun... I'll come with my team tomorrow " he answered making YanZhi nodded..
" ah brother Song this is our first time hiring a carpenter, so we don't know how much to pay.... could you inform us of your price " Xiao Ling asked
" we're paid 25 cents a day per worker with food or 30 cents a day without food " brother Song explained
" we can't cover the food for you so how about 40 cents a day per worker " Xiao Ling offered him and they finalized everything, they left after giving him the direction of the shop.
YanZhi thanked doctor Shi and decided to part ways making doctor Shi and Jinhua unhappy as they offered to have lunch together but YanZhi declined... he promised them to do that another day before parting ways. They went to butcher stall they bought meat from the day before and bought two catties of pork meat, went to fish market and bought some fish.... when they were done buying the stuffs needed they saw a man selling ducks and Xiao Ling decided to buy one to cook for dinner. They went to a stall selling wonton and ordered some for their lunch, after eating they left the county and head back to the village.
When they got home Yue brought out the table and chairs to the front yard and arranged the tea sets nicely on the table with snacks as she made tea for YanZhi before going to help Xiao Ling put away everything they bought in a safe corner in the kitchen....
" brother Yan are you back? " Wu Dahu's voice sounded from outside making YanZhi raised his head up to stare at the door as he was calmly enjoying the tea... he placed the tea cup down stood up before walking to open the door and let Dahu in.
" brother Dahu... all this? " YanZhi asked Dahu as he saw him carrying a large bundle of woods and carrying a basket in his hand..... Xiao Ling and Yue walked out of the kitchen to the front yard as they had the voice of their guest
" brother Dahu you're here? " Xiao Ling greeted him as Yue cupped her hands
" brother Yan who might this young lady be? " Dahu asked curiously
" That's Yue... my disciple " YanZhi answered nonchalantly and he nodded in understanding
