Chapter 41: A real protagonist
Some time passed by and the tournament soon ended. The winner being the disciple of the sect master who is in the top 10 of the rankings in the whole sect.
Gu Chen lost his third match as he was paired up with an older disciple who had reached the nascent soul realm.
Seeing that he had nothing important left to do, he just returned to his cultivation manor and cultivate peacefully until he receive another system mission.

Another one and a half year passed and Gu Chen is now 12 and a half year old.
Gu Chen now stood at 1.9 meters tall and he looked like a banished god that doesn't belong in this world. (The average men are 3M tall and the average women are 2.7M tall)
In this one and a half year, Gu Chen's cultivation increased quickly and he is now at the 8th stage of the Soul Formation Realm and his fake cultivation goes up to the 7th stage Golden Core realm.
In the middle of his cultivation, he heard the familiar system's noice

[A mission has been issued]
"Finally another mission, quickly show me" Gu Chen said excitedly
[1st Chain Quest (Ye Ling): Making full use of the immortal devouring physique, Ye Ling broke through to the 3rd stage of the Nascent Soul realm in just 1.5 years, and he is announced as the successor of the second peak. Many senior disciples argued heavily with the decision of the second peak master. However, nothing had changed and Ye Ling was named the successor in the end.
As many senior disciples of the second peak was unsatisfied with Ye Ling being the successor of the second peak, they decided to hunt Ye Ling as he is currently in a mission outside of the sect. Fortunately, Ye Ling managed to just barely escape from his pursuer.
After some time of being chased, Ye ling eventually managed to break free and escaped from his chaser. Ye Ling, like any other protagonists is bound to be stronger whenever he overcomes a dire situation, and this case was also the same. Ye Ling will come across the senior sister of the third peak of the Celestial Immortal sect who just came out of seclusion.

"Woahh, now this is what you call a protagonist!!" Gu Chen said excitedly as the speed of Ye Ling's cultivation was even higher than his and Ye Ling was hundreds of times better than the previous two protagonists.
To be honest, Gu Chen found the two previous protagonists to be completely mediocre that only deserve to be his entertainment.
Looking deeply on the mission, Gu Chen asked the system "System, is Li Jia perhaps someone from my family from the mother side?"
[The host is correct]
"Interesting.. very interesting Ye Ling" Gu Chen muttered as he rubbed both of his hands as if he had just gain another toy
"So system, when exactly will the meeting between Ye Ling and Li Jia occur?" Gu Chen asked the system as he stood up from his cultivating pose
[Ye Ling is currently heading towards the mission hall and in this mission he will be chased by mercenaries hired by the senior disciples of the second peak]
"Alright, I will also head over to the mission hall this instance" Gu Chen left his manor and headed towards the mission hall immediately
Looking at Gu Chen, many disciples of the third peak was confused as this was their first time seeing Gu Chen left his cultivation chamber without being summoned by the peak master.
5 minutes after he left his manor, Gu Chen finally arrived at the mission hall.
Located in the fifth peak, the mission hall is a majestic building that was made out of fine marbles and gold. Walking inside the mission hall, Gu Chen saw many disciples, some are there to obtain missions, while others went to collect rewards after finishing their mission.
Mission rewards in the celestial immortal sect are divided into two, contribution points and not contribution points. Regular missions, or mission that gives out contribution points are mission that could be taken regularly by disciples. However, Unique missions, or mission that does not give out contribution point are unique and once someone completed it, the mission disappears.
Unique missions are usually harder to complete than regular missions, and are usually issued by elders or the peak masters of the sect.
Further observing his surrounding, Gu Chen caught a glimpse of a refined man dressed in a black robe with an arrogant look all over his face walking inside of the mission hall.
This man was definitely the protagonist Ye Ling and he walked straight up to the mission board where all the missions available are posted.
Ye Ling reached towards a unique mission, the mission he selected was to destroy a bandit hideout that has been ravaging and looting mortal villages.
As Ye Ling's hands were about to reach the mission, Gu Chen also reached out his hands toward the mission and both disciples held the mission at the same time.
"HUH... ohh isn't this the genius from the third peak Li Chen?" Ye Ling sneered as he finally noticed Gu Chen
"It has been a while fellow disciple Ye Ling, How have you been?" Putting out an angel like smile, Gu Chen spoke to Ye Ling
Cutting the idle chatter short, Ye Ling decided to get straight to the point
"I don't think that we are close enough to ask about the well being of each other, what matters now is that I will be taking this mission, so step back."
"But fellow disciple Ye, I grabbed this mission at the same time as you did, so why are you speaking as if you own the mission?" Gu Chen asked back with a rather confused expression as the other disciples in the mission hall had taken notice the commotion between the two
"Well fellow disciple Li, I am just worried that you might not be capable of taking this mission as this mission is very dangerous. Thus, I VOLUNTEERED to take this mission." Ye Ling spoke and the crowd seemed to agree with his words as some of the other disciples were nodding
"But, I think that I will be fine doing that mission myself." Gu Chen spoke innocently to get the public's opinion
"YOU-" Ye Ling was about to argue with Gu Chen again before a powerful presence stop him from doing so
"Stop what you are doing!!" a middle age looking man appeared as he released his emperor realm cultivation
"Both of you will take the mission together, the one who finished the mission first will be entitled to the reward." The middle age man said as he looked at both Gu Chen and Ye Ling
Unsatisfied with the decision of the middle age person, Ye Ling could only grit his teeth as he could not do anything to revoke the decision and both Ye Ling and Gu Chen said "Okay"
The middle aged man disappeared once again and Ye Ling turned towards Gu Chen and said
"I WILL REMEMBER THIS!" Ye Ling then turned to leave the mission hall
'hehehe, you will for sure remember this mission* for the rest of your life my little toy' Gu Chen smirked seeing the back of Ye Ling leaving the mission hall
