“She’s back.”

That is all Miguel said to me once Nora held the phone out to me, telling me it was for me. I had waited for her to leave the room, peeking down at my mate ensuring that everything was still the same as it had been the last time I had checked on her. Nora had insisted that it was fine that I get up, stating it was probably best for both Adel and me if I gave her some distance now that the bond was healing.

My legs felt shaky standing on them for the first time in four days, but every moment that ticked by with my legs under me the more strength I felt rebuilt.

“Who?” I asked my Beta once Nora closed the door behind her.

“F*cking Fleur Toussaint,” Miguel spat out.

“But we had been told she was dead—”

“That’s what everyone was told. I had a d*mn hunch Phoenix, I knew someone like her was behind this sh*t…”

“Is that why you left the homestead and went to Chicago?”
