It’s evening before I finish my conversation with Maggie. She agrees to help with my plan. That means it’s her job to present it to the residents of the outlying towns. After interacting with her friend, I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to present the plan to them on my own.
“How carefully are the Bloodfangs watching West Gulch?” I ask.
“Far less carefully than they’d like,” Maggie says. “They tried to send another spy in here to replace the one they killed, but I eliminated him. I left the same PREY message on the wall that Carl had left before, so they should think it was the same killer.”
“That reminds me, what was up with that?”
“It was his way of announcing that he was turning the tables on the Bloodfangs. He wanted to make them his prey, just as they had made him theirs.”
“Why wasn’t it at my apartment?”
“That was...” she hesitates. “That was his first kill. I believe he simply hadn’t thought of the signature yet.”
