Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Returning to Maggie’s

As I reach the parking lot, I realize I might not have thought the details of this departure through. Where do I go now? I don’t have a quick way up to St. Louis, assuming that’s where I’m headed next.

I guess I should go back to Maggie’s. I might even want to spend the night there if she’ll let me.

The realization that I have nowhere to sleep makes me second-guess what I’m doing, but I fight that thought back down as soon as I have it. He called my mom a coward. After she gave up everything, and died, to protect me, he called her a coward. I can’t forgive him for that.

I can’t get to Maggie’s through the gate, so I’ll have to use the same hole in the fence we used earlier tonight.

I venture off into the woods, carrying my suitcase behind me. It’s going to be hard to carry it as a wolf, but I won’t let that stop me. I strip and stuff my clothes into the suitcase with everything else. I shift.
