“Okay,” Lavinia walked through the park beside Casey in a flowing black dress, “I probably won’t be with you the entire time. If someone tries to do anything that you don’t want, come find me.”
She looked at Casey and smiled. Her makeup was stunning and reminded Casey of an owl. “If you can’t stand near me, stay where I can see you. I don’t want to cause a scene, not here.”
She softened. “Just…tell anyone that makes you uncomfortable that you’re the assistant of Lady Lavinia Colay.”
“I will.” Casey was having a hard time keeping up with the taller woman even when Lavinia was in heels. “I’m Casey of the Colay Estate,” she tested.
Lavinia smiled softly. “You are.” It was almost a whisper.
Casey couldn’t help smiling either. She had to admit it was a little fun to be fancy and play the part of Lavinia’s esteemed assistant.
