Chapter 36

Meeting the seniors

"Yo!"

Siegfried turned around after hearing the voice. It was his last day of self-study before going back to classes and, for a change, He was going to visit the library.

He looked at the one who called. It was a short girl with shoulder-length dark red hair and a cheerful smile.

"So, you are talking to me now?" Said Siegfried to the girl. This was Rae Holand, the girl he had saved last week from those two guys. She had been avoiding him since then.

She scratched her head and smiled. "I'm sorry about that! I didn't want to seem ungrateful, but I thought it was safer for you if we didn't talk on academy grounds."

"I see, so you were trying to protect me from…what was his name again?"

"That's right! I was protecting you." She said while pointing a finger at him. "As for the guy…his name is Lucius Avery, a third-year noble from the elite class. Is not someone you want to offend."

"But now, you are talking to me. What has changed then?" Asked Siegfried.

"I found someone who promised to protect me from him." She said proudly.

Siegfried wasn't sure if that was something to be proud of. "And who is this protector?"

"She is amazing!" Rae rose her hands in the air to show more emphasis. "Her name is Sofia Castel"

"Castel, uh?. I have also someone from that family in my class" commented Siegfried.

"I know, Iris Castel. Sofia mentioned her once. Sofia said that was born with fire affinity and was thus unable to use any of the wind magic that the Castel has perfected over centuries. What a shame."

"She will have to find her own path, there is nothing shameful in that. Tell more about this Sofia Castel." Siegfried has become interested in the topic.

Rae happily agreed to talk about her. "She is a third-year from the elite class like Avery so she knows what type of person he is. Just two days after you saved me, those guys tried again the same thing, but this time, Avery was with them. It was very scary…I thought I was done for…but then, the two idiots went flying and the next second, Avery had a sword on his neck. It was incredible! she moved so fast. She then told Avery that I was under her protection."

"She seems like an interesting person, I would like to meet her."

"Of course, you would!" Rae patted him on the shoulder. "You would definitely fall for her, she is so pretty! and elegant. She has this perfect noble girl image…"

"You mean, unlike you?" He asked.

"Hey!" She shouted but didn't seem offended at all. "I have never really felt like noble anyways. My dad was granted the rank of low-tier noble for his accomplishments in trading, which was only four years ago. I grew up as a commoner, although one from a well of family. I don't feel like much has changed."

"Of course not. A title doesn't change who you are, just the way other people will see you."

"You know…" Rae got closer to him. "You sometimes talk like an old man, are you really fourteen?"

Her face was very close to his but Siegfried didn't mind it. "Im actually fifteen. I entered the academy a year later. And…what would people think if they see us this close?" He got his face slightly closer, it was then that she realized. She blushed slightly and separated quickly.

"Hey!, what do you think you are doing?!"

Siegfried got a bit distracted with the conversation and failed to notice that someone was behind them. It was early in the morning and not many people took that path to the library, so it was a bit surprising to encounter someone.

They both turned to look at the person who just shouted at them. Siegfried did not recognize him. He was a very short and ugly guy with blonde hair cut in a bowl shape. He was also wearing white robes with one black band on each sleeve, indicating that he was a third-year from the elite class.

That information combined with the gasp and look of horror on Rae's face, gave Siegfried all the information he needed to identify the boy.

"You must be Lucius Avery then," Said Siegfried.

Avery's face was contorted with anger. "I am! And you are too close to my woman!"

Siegfried gave Rae a look before going back to Avery. "Your woman? I don't think she is. You must be confused."

Avery clenched his teeth. "Don't think I don't know who you are, Lancaster! I know it was you the one who interfered with my business the other day. I was willing to let this matter go for as long as you stood away from her…but now, you have really made me angry!."

Avery took out a wand from his sleeves. It was not a practice one, but a high-quality wand, not inferior to the one Siegfried gave his cousin.

Siegfried could feel the cultivation base of Avery.

'He is at the beginning stages of the core formation. Not bad for a third year. Despite his ridiculous looks, this guy has talent.'

"Fire lance!" Avery shouted. This was considered the most lethal of all rank zero spells. Because of his penetrative power, it is more than enough to completely pierce a person and kill them instantly.

Siegfried was going to make his move when he felt two presences upon him. The first one got in front of him and deflected the spell with no effort, while the other got to Avery's side.

The man in front of him was very tall and muscular with short black hair. A powerful and authoritative aura emanated from his body.

The one who got next to Avery had a thin sword placed against his neck. It was a very beautiful girl of petite stature, with light purple hair tied into twin ponytails, giving her a very innocent look that heavily contrasted with the threatening expression she was making at the moment.

"I warned you…Avery!"
