Abandon Technique

En'Oat. POV.

Three steps and a stab with my left hand started the fight. Barriss smoothly parried the attack and went for an overhead attack. I pulled my lightsaber back and switched hands to go for a righthanded slash to her midsection causing her to step back to block with both her hands. Her eyes widened slightly, and I pushed her back further with my left hand with a palm jab. She stumbled further and went back into her guard.

I slowly put my hand back to my side and twirled my lightsaber around, switching from both hands. Going from high and low, and left and right. Her eyes darted from my feet, my hands, and my eyes.

If only I had a second lightsaber, this would make this so much easier. Though perhaps I should make her attack. Form III wasn't known for its offence. I breathed in deep and exhaled to crouch slightly. My lightsaber was low, pointing right in front of me. One hand on my hilt, and the other on my wrist.

We stood there watching each other for half a minute. Perfectly still. My fingers were starting to cramp, and my legs were shaking slightly but I did not give in. The younglings looked bored. But the Master's stared at us with intent. Furrowed eyebrows and hands behind their backs.

Barriss still stood still like a statue. She had the advantage. She could probably spend hours in the defensive stance. My patience was wearing thin.

Two minutes passed. My knees were on fire. My fingers went numb. Sweat dripped from my forehead unto the mat. Barriss kept staring at me coolly. Emotionless. Not an inch out of place. Textbook form.

My right knee buckled, and I fell on it. Barriss quickly darted forward. With her lightsaber still in guard across her body. I slashed up, but she redirected it and ended with her saber pointed at my throat. I rolled backwards and switched hands. Slashing at her feet as I did, causing her to jump. Her in the air, and I just getting to my feet. Had me at the advantage. I charged forward. And barraged her with wild attacks from all sides. Switching hands and the way I held the hilt. Some attacks I missed her completely while others she blocked and pushed away, causing me to other step to the side or duck.

As I attacked her wildly, she was stepping back. I had to somehow break her guard, which would provide me with an opening. As I thrusted forward I moved with my whole body, So as he redirected the attack and moved to counter attacked. My shoulder was already in her stomach. Her lightsaber narrowly slashing above my head. With my momentum her body folded across mine and made her suspend in the air for a second. I unignited my lightsaber, performed a leg sweep, with my back leg. My leg met her hers and she fell backwards, her arms pushing forward as she fell on her back. At the end of my spin I jumped, kneeing her hand which held her lightsaber.

The lightsaber flew across the room and she was on her back empty handed and a dazzled look across her face.

"Match En'Oat." Cin's voice froze me in place, as I held the lightsaber point at Barriss neck. "Though I feared he would lose at one point." I shook my head, and reached my hand towards Barriss who accepted it.

"You have improved." Barriss mumbled as she rubbed her head.

"Thank you."

"You abandoned technique." Master Cin has his hand to his chin. With an expression of confussion.

"It gave me victory."

"I was unaware you had such skill in hand-to-hand combat." Master Luminara spoke as she came to the side of Barriss, gently rubbing her shoulder. With a kind smile.

"Master Plo, has only taught me hand-to-hand so far." I put my lightsaber on my belt and rolled my wrists. "It is definitely a learning experience." Master Cin smiled and nodded his head.

"We will ask him together, after this class. As well as inform him of your little bet, with Padawan Offee." I sighed and bowed.

"Yes, Master."

"Good. Now prepare the youngling for light training, while I talk to Master Luminara and Padawan Offee."

"Yes, Master." I turned to Barriss and bowed. "It was a pleasure to spar with you Barriss." I turned to Master Luminera and bowed. "As well as to speak with you Master Luminera." They both bowed slowly, and I walked away to the younglings.

Master Yoda. POV.

"Padawan En'Oat. How is he?" I turned to Master Plo Koon who sat beside me, meditating.

"He is smart. Perhaps to smart. Learns quickly, and without much effort."

"Hmm. The decision to abandon Geonosis?"

"I spoke with him. I try to help him as much as I can, but he still disagrees with the Council's choice."

"Unexpected, but good to have other opinions it is. For the safety of our clones, we made this choice."

"He believes the men died in vain."

"Young he is. Much to learn he has. One cannot know all there is about this Clone Wars. Sacrifices, are unfortunate, though required sometimes they are."

"I understand Master Yoda. He will too. It will take some time."

"Trust in your ability as a Master, I do. As do all the Jedi in this Temple. Much time you will have. Much to learn he will, from you."

"Thank you, Master."

"Faith does not require gratitude. Trust does not require gratitude. Know the outcome, I do. Seen it I have. With many padawans you have trained in the past. Learn something, I might from you."

"Your words provide reassurance, Master."

"Good. Come. Speak with your padawan, we will. An unlikely problem arises."

"What Master?"

"Hmm. Know I do not. Funny it will be. Come, come."
