Chapter 3: Lost Ones (I)
Everything is white.
(Huh, what happened?)
I am standing in the middle of a room or no, it doesn't look like a room. I don't understand and it doesn't make any sense.
(What happened?! I believe, I was in my room. What is this place? Is this a dream? Somebody please tell me!)
I see other people standing stiff just like I am, 19 including me.
(There are school kids, adults and even elderly. Huh, there are foreigners as well. Wow! That's some diversity. One doesn't see too many ethnicity in my hometown.)
"Welcome Lost ones!" A cheerful voice resounded in my mind.
(I focused at front but I could not see anyone, just hearing a voice directly in my mind. This is spooky and making me scared.)
"Ah, lost ones, I know you might have so many questions but fret not. I will give necessary explanations to sooth your wavering thoughts."
"I am a servant of the caretaker of this dimensional domain. You all have been lost in the rift between dimensions. This happens once every 200-300 years, so don't worry much, okay? Thee he. The only worrisome thing for you could be that none of you can go back to where you come from. Rather, we will send you to a planet in this dimension, which you can call your new home going forward."
(What?! No! This can't be true, right?!)
I tried speaking but I couldn't. There is restlessness in the whole room. I am feeling the same sensation.
"Calm down, lost ones! I know it is not easy to accept something this unreasonable. But if we have left you in the rift, you would all have died. Our caretaker Ishel-sama has risked herself and has gone to slumber just to transfer you lost ones in this dimensional domain.
You will now all be departing in a world known as Kemetor, similarly to earth have life. A little different in some aspects, but you all can live there. So, try your best, eh?"
"Oh, silly me, I was about to forget the most important advice. All of you will be transferred to different places. That's because transferring you all at one place will fluctuate the essence of magic in atmosphere and could result in a devastating calamity."
"Few here might be your acquaintances or friends but we can't keep promise that you will land in the same place. If you are important enough, try looking for each other. This can be a great life goal or so to say! hehe!
Then again, you will have new lives, so you better enjoy down there. I will make sure you have some survivable goods."
"Make sure to check your backpacks! Oh yeah, you will get few coins as well, so use the money wisely. Now, I guess we can start your transfer. Have a fun new life!"
Suddenly the space started distorting. I feeling scared, closed my eyes. After a few seconds, I felt chilly wind flowing. I opened my eyes slowly and saw the scenery of snowy planes while sun was over the horizon and slowly going down. Everything in the surroundings was tinged with a reddish hue.
(Oh, so cold! Geez, what was that? A different world and magic fluctuation.)
I heard some bizarre words that made no sense but if it really is a different world, I can get some grasp of the situation. Why you ask? I have been reading too many different world novels these days. It's like everywhere. The Isekai genre got so famous like every other story is some different world transfer or reincarnation.
(Ah! I never thought I would have to go through this. It feels like a drag now. Still, its goddamn chilly! I have to find a place to sleep and rest. Being a girl and all, I don't feel safe out at night and not to mention in a different world. What a drag!)
"What an absolute drag!!"
Ah, at least I am standing on what looks like a paved road.
"Thank god! I wasn't transferred far from civilization. Otherwise, I would have died or worst"
(No, please don't think about bad things now. Just focus on your surroundings. I need to find a place to rest and food to eat.)
Observing my surroundings, I don't feel too far from a village or town.
(Yes, check my backpack!)
I pulled down my bag and started going through its contents.
(Huh, a weapon?! A knife? No, a dagger to be exact. Few clothes, a piece of bread?! What the hell?! Moving on, I found a pouch.)
"Oh, it has coins. Um, this is copper and silver, right? Few big and few small."
(Well, I don't know the monetary value but I need to think about a way to not get looted of my savings. My life depends on it until I find a job or a way to earn.)
"Oh, a small journal. Let's see. "
"Hey lost one, hopefully you got transferred safely. The country where you were transferred is Draxiya Empire and is the biggest country on the human continent. While most population is of humans but mixed and other races also live here. There is not much discrimination but still beware. There are aristocrats and shady characters everywhere. Your current location is forty minutes away from the city gates and you should walk straight towards east on the paved road to reach there. You will be asked about identification, just make up a story that you lost you papers and you can enter while they appraise your criminal record."
"What a cliché! Ah ha ha ha"
A wary laugh left my mouth. I can't believe this is happening to me. I got to know the monetary value of necessities. At least we were explained things and were not left to die.
Let's see, small copper coins, big copper coins, small silver coins, big silver coins, gold coins, white coins and Royal coins
(So, 7 different coin denominations and these are used on the human continent. Well, there are other races, so they might be using other coins as well.)
1 small copper coin
10 small copper coins make 1 big copper
10 big copper coins are 1 small silver
10 small silver coins are 1 big silver
10 big silver coins are 1 gold coin
100 gold coins are 1 white coin
100 white coins are 1 Royal coin
(Let's see. I have 10 small copper, 10 big copper, 10 small silver and 5 big silvers. Not bad, huh! But still, I would like to see a gold coin at least. And, no information was given about Royal coin. I think, no commoner would ever see it, so doesn't matter much.)
"A day/night stay with 2 meals cost 1 small silver in a medium range inn. Entry fee to town is 5 small silver coins without identification."
(People might think it's cool and all transferring to different world and start anew but it is not. You would have to leave all the modern comforts behind and you are not sure to get a good life in another world. My only silver lining is that I have read so many of these Isekai novels that I can kind of know what to expect. At least, I need to find a living place and a job to survive in this world.)
"Ah, how bad, I had finally landed a good job in a reputed organization and was hired as the direct secretary of developing department's manger. And, here I am in a different world all alone."
While lamenting my situation, I started walking. After walking closer to half an hour, I finally found a big wall outstretched as far as my eyes could see. The outward appearance wasn't looking all that bad and seems like I am in a middle age fantasy. There is covering of snow and fields are spread out on the both sides of the road.
"But damn, the air stinks! Tch!"
(I feel like I should not say it out loud. No matter what, I don't want to get into any kind of trouble with anyone. Let's just move on, find an inn and be done with tonight.)
"Ah, I just want to sleep."
I kept walking and reached a big gate like structure and there was a big line formed for entrance to the city.
The guards are checking people before letting them in. After waiting for like 10 minutes or so, it was finally my turn.
"Halt! State your name, occupation and reason for visit." (Guard)
I came to a sudden stop, while fidgeting I tried to answer as calmly as possible.
(Just try not to be awkward Minami.)
"Um, m-my name is Fuji Minami, currently do not have any job and looking for one. Here for some sightseeing." (Minami)
Suddenly, everyone around me went stiff and the guards around were looking restless as well.
"Ah, pl-please wait a moment as I would have to call my superior." (Guard)
"Um, is there any problem?" (Minami)
"No, not at all. Just that we can't let a Nobel personage to be standing here and a supervisor will be able to help you if you need anything. Please come this way." (Guard)
"Oh, thank you very much!" (Minami)
(I feel like I am being misunderstood somehow but this saves time and I can get to know someone from a high position. This will only help me if I use this opportunity wisely.)
After walking a little, we reached to a detached place near the gate, which somewhat looks like a barrack. There is sitting arrangement but even here, the air quality is not good. I feel like frowning.
After what felt like a minute of walking, we reached to a room which was a little further away from the entrance.
(Oh, this looks good and there is sitting arrangement here as well. Air is somewhat decent here. How, nice!)
I was starting to feel tired after walking close to an hour or so. Ah, my thoughts are wandering off again.
(Focus Minami focus!)
Inside the chief's room, a person was working on some kind of documents, writing something. A white haired, sturdy build and handsome face.
(Ah, a beautiful face, how nice! Did I hit a jackpot?)
"Please excuse us, Sir Albert; we need your help with a Nobel personage's check to enter the city." (Guard)
The supervisor, whom the guard addressed as Sir Albert, looked my way and started speaking.
"Good day to you Miss. My name is Albert Hunt. Would you please be able to share your name with me?" (Albert)
(Ah, such gentle way of speaking. Not only beautiful face but also kind. I was astonished.)
"Um, my name is Fuji Minami. I have been traveling for sightseeing but lost my identification documents. Is there any way I can request for the new identification papers?" (Minami)
I somehow muttered few words to match the story so I don't sound anyone suspicious. But I think I still sounded somewhat suspicious.
"Very well, please come this way. I wouldn't want to be rude enough to pry in any personal information but we will have to check for any false statements or criminal activity with soul orb. I hope you would not have any issue as this is a mandatory procedure." (Albert)
"Ah, no-not at all, please do. I will be in your care." (Minami)
(Soul orb, a new word but to check false statements and criminal activities. This sounds dangerous. I don't think I lied about anything, but yeah, I don't want to be in any trouble. I would have to think about running away if there would be any problem with sightseeing which I mentioned.)
After walking a little further, we reached into a hall like room; there a glass like screen was on the right side of the wall. Not too big, just around a square of 50 cm and a round shape object was placed on an adjacent table.
(This does look like an orb, so my characteristics will be shown on the screen, I think.)
"This way please, and place your hand on the soul orb for 10 seconds. We will have a display of your status. I hope you do not have any objection with me being here. Ha-ha, I say so, but I have to be here to check." (Albert)
"Ah, no pro-problem at all. Thank you!" (Minami)
(Why am I sounding so cringe?! Goddamn, I just hope I am not making any kind of stupid face.)
When I placed my hand on the orb, it shined with a blue light. Then, a sudden jolt hit my body, like something pleasant was flowing in my blood stream. This was a new type of sensation for me and it felt nice. Meanwhile, the glass display started flickering and showing some kind of text.
"Ah, no problem with criminal activity and no false statements. So, your name is Lady Fuji Minami. If you don't mind and I be bold to ask, Minami is Lady Fuji's given name, correct?" (Albert)
"Y-yes this is my given name and Fuji is my family name. Sorry, I was so flustered that I forgot to explain earlier." (Minami)
"No problem there and this will take care of the procedure to issue your new identification card. Lady Fuji, it would be alright for you if your do not want to talk about your lineage now but make sure to get it adjusted it on the card while you reach your fief. We will be imprinting your name and Divine Blessing for now and it will be five small silver coins to issue the new card." (Albert)
(Divine Blessing? A new term, but I feel like it would be interesting to find out more. Ah, I can't wait to use some magic if possible.)
"Here are 5 small silver coins. Thank you for taking care of my identification procedure. I was really troubled by it." (Minami)
"You're most welcome Lady Fuji. If you do not mind me asking, are you staying at an inn here?" (Albert)
"Oh yes, if you could recommend me an inn here, it would be great. Preferably one with bath and good food. As you might already be aware, this is my first time visiting this town." (Minami)
"Yes certainly. This is exactly what I was thinking. I will be introducing you to the establishment that I frequent and wholeheartedly recommend their services. It might not be too high class, but for me it is the best out here in this city. It has nice bathing facility and food is top quality." (Albert)
"Oh, and also, before I forget about it. Regarding your identification card, I would advise you to visit Goddess Shrine to list your Divine blessing skills and have them put on under concealment. You can also visit an Adventurer's guild, but I would advise against it because it could be a rowdy place for young ladies. This here will take care of your entrance for you, please take this card and try not to lose it." (Albert)
"haha, never again! I will keep it someplace secure. Thank you so much for all your kindness and helping me out Sir Albert." (Minami)
"Glad to be of help! Ah, I must say, Lady Fuji has an amazing Divine Blessing. You must be loved by the Goddess." (Albert)

I somewhat sighed and said my gratitude. Meanwhile Sir Albert, explained me about the inn and Goddess Shrine.
(He is such a kind person, maybe I should invite him on a dinner sometime. Ah, how bold of me! Getting ahead of me is not going to help, I need to be firm and find a way to survive in this unknown world.)
This is how I; Fuji Minami who wandered into another world, started my life journey who was later hailed as Professor Magic. I discovered various ways to manipulate magic available in the surroundings and made it easier for people to understand the underlying concepts of this world.
