Chapter 15: Extra story: Hero's Hatred

The question of what defines a hero arises. Millennia ago, the world faced its first test when the demon king was defeated by a hero. Yet, little did they know that the demon race was far from extinct, as they could regenerate and the demon king was already in the process of reincarnation. The people turned to the hero's son, who had inherited his father's powers and the additional gift of light magic from his mother. With the fate of the world hanging in balance, the son embarked on a journey to defeat the demon king and save humanity. This cycle repeated itself through each generation, with the hero's descendants tasked with continuing the legacy of vanquishing the demon king. The hero's revered status was unchallenged throughout the kingdom, although their downfall was their sacrificial commitment to defeating the demon king. Alex was also a descendant of the hero, but his father had already perished in the battle against the demon king. As the highest probability for the next hero, other hero descendants grew jealous of him, particularly Adam, the current hero. Despite also wielding all elements, Adam felt he was relegated to second place. When rumors of Alex's lack of mana surfaced, Adam seized the opportunity to take on the mantle of the hero. Nevertheless, his animosity towards Alex persisted.

Now, onto the second part of your question: why doesn't Alex want to be a hero?

In his past life, tragedy struck early on when his parents passed away, leaving him to fend for himself as an orphan. Consequently, when he was reborn into this world, he readily accepted this new reality. After his birth, his fondest memories were of his mother playing with him, as it was a precious moment that he treasured. However, when his mother received the news that her husband had died while fighting the demon king, her demeanor changed drastically. She became deeply depressed, no longer finding joy in playing with Alex, and eventually fell ill. One fateful day, when Alex was fast asleep, his mother quietly passed away. It was then that he came to realize that his father was considered a hero by the world, but in his eyes, he was the one who had taken away his happiness. From that day on, Alex vowed never to become a hero and instead chose to live a simple life with his family, finding happiness in the little moments they shared together.
