Side story: Maya's date

[This story starts when both Alex and Maya go to eat their lunch with each other (chapter 6)]

During one of their casual lunch dates, Maya sat across from Alex, savoring their meals and enjoying each other's company.

However, their peaceful moment was abruptly interrupted by a group of hooligans who barged into the restaurant, demanding money from the owner. Maya's anger surged as she was about to retaliate, but she froze when the owner's wife appeared. The woman was strikingly beautiful, tall with black hair, and in her 20s, while the owner was in his 30s, and the hooligan was in his 20s.

The leader of the hooligans took notice of her and uttered an unsavory remark, "Why don't you come with me and have some fun? Your husband can't give you the satisfaction you need." The owner's wife reacted with a fierce slap that rattled the leader, and he ordered his men to hold her down. In a cruel turn of events, the hooligan demanded the owner give up his wife as a slave or face death.

The owner stood up and betrayed his wife's trust, "If you don't want to lose your life, you must give me your wife as a slave." His wife was heartbroken, tears streaming down her face as she pleaded with him, "But you say you love me." The owner's response was cold and calculated, "You can't be any use to me now in any other way than this, so just go with him and stop taking up space in my restaurant." The owner then dragged his weeping wife to the hooligan leader and begged, "Lord, please take my wife and spare my life." The hooligan laughed sadistically, drew his sword, and decapitated the owner, relishing in his victory.

He then turned to the owner's wife, saying, "Now, you see what I can do in this area. If you follow me silently, you can keep your husband and avoid this embarrassing fate. You are just a woman, after all. You were born to serve the strongest man."

On the sidelines, Maya and Alex witnessed the scene unfold before them. Without a second thought, Maya swiftly turned to Alex and commanded, "Quickly, go call the city guard! Meanwhile, I will take care of these hooligans." Alex, though hesitant, obeyed and darted off to fetch help.

Maya unsheathed her sword and charged toward the hooligan leader, delivering a powerful kick that sent him crashing to the ground. In one fluid motion, she slashed his left hand, causing him to howl in agony.

The other hooligans quickly closed in on her, but she fearlessly held her ground, expertly dispatching each of them with ease. Soon, all the hooligans lay writhing on the ground, missing various body parts, while Maya remained unscathed, not a single drop of blood staining her body. As Alex returned with the city guard, they promptly apprehended the criminals. Maya then turned to assist the injured woman, but before she could reach her, the hooligan leader broke free from the guard's grasp, snatched their sword, and launched a surprise attack on Maya, catching her off guard and leaving her with no chance to evade.

Maya's heart pounded in her chest as she braced for the inevitable attack. She knew it was too late to dodge, and her mana couldn't be released in time to counter the blow. With a sense of resignation, she closed her eyes, accepting that this might be the end of her life. But even in her final moments, her thoughts turned to him - the one person she couldn't forget.

As Maya prepared for the worst, Alex was already thinking ahead. He could see the attack coming, and he knew he had the power to stop it with his mana. But at what cost? He hesitated for a moment before realizing that there was no other choice.

And then, in a flash, Maya's eyes snapped open. She saw Alex standing before her, wounded by the sword. Without a second thought, she launched herself at the hooligan leader and delivered a decisive blow that severed his head from his body. Only then did she turn to check on Alex.

At that moment, Maya's emotions were a jumbled mess. Relief at seeing Alex alive warred with a sudden realization that she had feelings for him - feelings that she had been trying to ignore for months. But it was too late now; she had missed her chance. How could he ever love her when her beautiful, young sister was waiting in the wings?

Later, when Alex confessed his feelings for her, Maya couldn't believe it. She knew that he had only chosen her as a consolation prize, a way to ease his guilt over her sister. But even so, she couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope. Maybe this time, things would be different. Maybe this time, she would finally get what she wanted - and this time, she would not lose him.
