Piet passes under the tree; his attention is focused on his ride to his bed, and his thoughts are on his wife, Peggy.
The leopard’s savage shriek rents the air and tears into Piet’s tired mind, as it launches itself at him from the tree, he turns at the sound. The big cat slams into him, sending them both sprawling down onto the ground.
Piet’s rifle is trapped under the combined weight of man and cat, the leopard tries to force its snarling jaws under Piet’s chin in an effort to get to his throat, but Piet’s powerful left hand is locked onto the cat’s throat, forcing the big cats head away from his body. The cat claws at him with its back legs, trying to get purchase on its intended victim, its snarls of fury filling the air.
