With shaking hands David keys in Adele’s cell number. He hears the tone of the ring, over and over, until it switches over to voice mail. He calls Piet next. /"Piet, where are you, I’ve had a fucking blowout, and this bloody car doesn’t have a spare, Piet, can you hear me?/"

/"Ja I hear you, this bloody cell connection sucks. Okay look, I’m on my way, I should be at your place by 8.30, latest 9. Wait inside the vehicle for me David, there are Lion in the area, as well as Elephant, and we don’t need any accidents, my man./"

David try’s calling Adele’s cell again, only to once again get voice mail. Now his mind starts to play tricks on him, and he starts to imagine different reasons why she hasn’t answered her phone, and none of them are pleasant. Grabbing a pen and paper out of the cubbyhole, he hastily writes a note to Piet, telling him that he has set off for the smallholding, but will stay on the road.
