Chapter 2: Chapter 01: Library

I woke up to the soft sound of page flipping and shuffling feet.

Opening my eyes I saw that I was seated on a plush armchair in the children's section of a library. In my lap was a large green leather book that had to be about six inches thick. Blinking some of the sleep from my eyes I wince as my head gets a migraine. The memories of my past life were finally merged. This meant that who I was then and who I was now both disappeared as I became someone entirely new. After all, who we are is completely made up of our life choices and experiences.

But it does allow me to know a little bit more about the new world I've become a part of as well as who I've been reborn as.

First things first are that my body is currently that of a six-year-old boy. My dad named me Taylor when I was born right after my mom left me with him. Thanks to my new memories I know that dad and I were demigods and that there were a lot more of us as well that the entire Grecian Pantheon was real along with the mythology. Which meant it was very common for the gods to have kids with humans.

Unfortunately, this also means that all the monsters from the stories are real too.

######

About a week ago dad packed up our stuff and said that we were going someplace safe. I don't know what place that was, only that it was in Long Island, New York. Sadly we would never make it there together because, on the third day of our trip, we were attacked by three giant scorpions.

Dad fought them off the best he could while trying to protect me, even managing to kill two of them. But they had been able to injure him badly enough that the last remaining giant scorpion was able to spear dad through his back. Immediately, killing him.

It was at that moment that my divine gifts emerged. The overwhelming fear, rage, and sadness that I felt as I watched my dad die, unable to do anything caused something in me to snap. A warmth that I had never experienced before was growing inside my body. It was so comforting that I almost got lost in the feeling as it helped soothe the devastating pain of my dad's death. A death caused by the very scorpion that was now in front of me with its tail raised back to strike and kill me as well.

But it would never get the chance.

Focusing back on the warm feeling inside me, I felt it guiding me. I knew what to do next. As the giant scorpion struck out at me, I screamed. I screamed with all I had inside me, all of my sadness, grief, pain, fear, panic, and anger. All of it filled my voice.

The next thing I knew, I had fallen to the ground as whatever I had done had caused the scorpion to explode in a burst of glittering light particles.

######

That was over two days ago. At that time, I had managed to find a large library and hide out in it after closing hours. I got by, by sleeping under the raised stage, which was set up in the children's section for book readings and puppet shows. Food was taken care of by the vending machines, paid for with loose change found around the library.

But now it was time to buckle down and get serious. I was a small child, alone in a strange place with no way to defend myself. It was time to find out what powers I possess and learn how to use them to their fullest potential while I have the limited boon of high adaptability for a year.

And the best way, I think to start is with my first divine gift. The book of magic that I received due to my ancestry with Hecate. The large green leather-bound book had appeared before me the first night I spent in the closed library.

"Alright," I mutter as I hold the book with its spine facing down on the table. "Show me what active power I have and how to use it," I commanded as I randomly opened it in the middle.

Opening, the book, once blank white pages suddenly filled with lavender-colored writing.

{Mystiokinesis}

{Tychokinesis}

{Photokinesis}

"So I have three powers I need to learn how to use. This is both good and bad at the same time." I said quietly to myself. Thinking about which one I should start with before deciding to read through all three and make my decision afterward.

(The Gift of Magic)

[The unique ability that allows for the manipulation of natural energies and converts it into the use of magical power. As a legacy of Hecate, you possess this talent. Though it may be noted that your skill level ranks as being on the level of an actual child of Hecate.

With this power, you can create, shape, and manipulate magic and mystic powers through the use of mystical practices, examples include rituals, spells, potions, and all other manners of mystical forces. Thus, with this ability, you can use magic to influence reality itself.

But remember though magic can be used to accomplish extraordinary feats, you must still adhere to some basic laws.

Wiccan Rede

What you send out comes back to you

If it harms none do what you will

Know yourself and your magic

Now the best way for beginners to the Craft to practice their magic is by first meditating. Meditation helps to calm erratic magic since all mystic power is tied to emotions in some way. Once that is mastered the next key steps are: Visualization, Willpower, and Intent.]

"Not a bad option, sounds easy to start with at least. But let's look at Luck next."

(The Gift of Probability)

[This power will allow you to manipulate probability, how likely an event is to occur, or how likely it is, that a probability is true. It can cause and prevent both good and bad luck, sudden deaths, natural disasters, and even apocalyptic events. But trying to manipulate the probability of something impossible is dangerous.

A way to train this ability is by using any number-sided dice, two-sided coins, and/or simple playing cards. Trying to manipulate the number the dice will land on after it's been rolled, what side the coin will land on once it's been flipped, or predicting what the card you randomly drew from the deck before turning it over to see.]

(The Gift of Light)

[Photokinesis is an ability that allows you to manipulate light. Photokinetic users can use this power to generate, bend, shift, focus, scatter, and manipulate light to various degrees and effects.

The best way to start training this power is by first building your connection to light. Soaking in the light of either of the two great natural light sources (the Sun & Moon) would be the first step. Next is to visualize what you want the light to do. Then finally, Willpower. You must be confident and be able to will the light to do what you want. A good way to practice the last two steps is to go into a dark room and try to create a small ball of light.]

"Well, it's decided then, of the three, I have nothing to use to help me practice my Tychokinesis. Also, Mystiokinesis would require me to be somewhere quieter so that I can have a better chance of meditating. That said, the best power of the three to start training with is Photokinesis."

Now with a plan in mind, I was officially ready to start on my journey of creating my path in this new and strange world.
