Marcus Cutler POV:
I must have passed out from the pain because the next thing I knew I was being woken up by a BEEPING sound. Forcing my eyes open, I climbed back to my hands and knees, and had to stop myself from screaming as Angela’s sword moved inside of me.
The beeping continued, getting louder and faster.
Slowly, I crawled in the direction the sound was coming from, which took me to Angela’s body. Going through her pockets, I pulled out a remote detonator. A small counter was timing down from two minutes.
Angela must have realized she wasn’t getting out and set it up to take as many of us down with her.
That wasn’t going to happen.
Fortunately, the Red Chapter doesn’t make their own bombs, meaning that there’s always a way to disarm them. The detonator had a button conveniently labeled ‘disengage.’ One press, and the countdown stopped and the timer went dark.
And then it was over.
The kill team was gone, Julia, her family, and her town were safe. We won.
