Julia Locke POV:
I dropped Marcus off at his motel, but I didn’t head home right away. Instead, I just drove around town for a little while to help clear my head.
Tonight, had been … interesting is the best way I can think to put it.
Marcus had seemed susceptible to what I had been trying to show him, and that was encouraging. At the same time, he had actively chosen to stop cooperating with me and resist my attempts to help him understand me, and that was discouraging.
That’s not to say it’s a lost cause though.
The belief that Marcus held about me, and my kind had been cracked. If it could be cracked, then it could be torn down. We had made progress.
Maybe it was the Red Chapter holding him back.
I knew they didn’t tolerate weakness among their members, or collusion with the supernatural community. And I knew that from my personal experience dealing with them, not just from looking at Marcus’s memories of them.
