Chapter 32: Chapter Thirty-Two: Cursing the Sage

Kai stared at the genuine soft smile and the glowing purple eyes on Helix's face. More than how mesmerized Helix was because of the bracelets, Kai cannot bring himself to move his gaze away from Helix's beautiful face.

This is probably the first, and also the last time Kai would ever see this kind of expression on this man's face.

How could he not get distracted?

As if Kai was spellbound, even how to breathe was completely forgotten. "Ah..."

Now, Helix noticed something off about the other person who moved not even an inch after his small outburst of excitement.

"What are you staring at?" Even Helix would be embarrassed by Kai's intense gaze.

Kai was in a similar situation. He used his right hand to cover his lower face, hiding the uncontrollable smile on his lips as he looked away. "I-It's because you… you smiled like that so suddenly…!"

He didn't even know why his voice was faint and weak, even stuttering a few words.

"You're blaming me?" Helix's face was faintly red. He gritted his teeth and then suddenly demanded, "Get out!"

"What⸻!"

Helix didn't spare Kai even a single second. He instantly casted a teleportation magic, a glowing array formed underneath Kai and then, he was just sent off to his own room.

"⸻… Oh."

Now Kai's back in his room for the third time today.

He found himself sitting on his own bed in the same position he was in just a few moments ago. With his right hand covering half of his lower face and his left hand raised in front of him, completely frozen.

"Argh…"

That smile was so cute… ?????

The way Helix's eyes softened as he gazed so fondly towards the bracelet in his wrist, that was so adorable?????

Kai felt like he's going insane.

-

Now Kai sat in front of the dining table. Helix's preparing the dishes and Kai just sits there, with a small notebook placed above the table, just right before his eyes.

He's very tempted to open and read it but he decided to wait for Helix and ask for his opinion regarding this. Also, he has to tell the other about the newly issued task for him. After all, whether Kai liked it or not, he needed Helix for this task.

What could he do against a demon beast?

Kai sighed as he rubbed the green glass embedded on the bracelet equipped in his wrist. The clear and bright glass does resemble the color of his eyes. Jade-green but when lit up and more saturated, it can also be compared to an emerald.

At the same time, the smell of food coming from Helix's direction as he cooked also wafted towards Kai's nose, inevitably making him hungrier than before.

The both of them didn't really eat much during their stay in the capital. There's several reasons but those didn't really matter. What's important is Kai's hunger and his need for Helix's prepared food. He didn't want to disturb, just in case of him being teleported back to his room just like earlier so Kai just sat tight and waited patiently. He tried to hold back his hunger as much as possible, but that is very impossible.

Kai's stomach grumbled involuntarily, louder than Kai even imagined.

"..."

"..."

"Sorry."

He couldn't help but blurt out. He wanted to laugh but truly, Kai felt a bit embarrassed.

Helix then turned around, he looked at Kai. In his hands were two plates. Kai could see the smoke rising up from the plates and also the smell that reached his nose.

He's so desperate for those dishes right now ah.

Helix looked at Kai indifferently but he sent the two plates with his magic to the table. Then he grabbed two plates and two pairs of utensils after he cleaned up the stoves and such.

He sat down across the table, in front of Kai. He prepared the table as well, handing Kai his plate and utensils and bringing the pot with rice, placing it in the middle of the table, all by using his magic.

He then glanced at the small notebook and glared at it for a long time, "Put that notebook away, it's ruining my appetite."

"... It belongs to Seth, did you know?"

"Of course I know. I've read that thing myself before, of course I knew it belonged to him."

"Right…"

The two started eating after Kai placed the notebook on top of the chair beside his so it would be out of Helix's gaze of contempt. There was an awkward silence for a long while. But it was just Kai hesitating whether he should bring up the topic of his task now or later.

But then, it was Helix who unexpectedly spoke up first amidst Kai's troubled and hesitant train of thoughts.

"Did they figure out something was weird about you?"

Kai almost choked but thankfully he didn't. He swallowed what was inside his mouth and answered, "Well… no one seemed to have noticed anything wrong… wait, actually someone did. Seth said⸻wait, nevermind he⸻"

"Say it."

Kai flinched and immediately raised his head, looking at Helix. Helix's expression remained the same cold indifference but his eyes were gleaming with danger.

Kai helplessly smiled and answered quietly, "He told me… that my time is warped."

'Telling him this much won't… expose my transmigration, right?'

He then continued, "I don't really know what he meant but other than him, there was nobody else. I don't think I had any slip ups either. I only communicated with the king, princess and the prince. Ah right, there was also a count who didn't know his place so I scolded him a little. I think there's nothing else…"

"... Actually, there's another one but I really don't know her identity."

Helix continued to stare at Kai as he ate his own share of food. As if he was telling the other to continue, he kept his silence as he ate, only listening intently.

"She had bright golden hair and also green eyes. She seemed rich. Ah, the bracelets, I was talking about her. She was the one who bought the bracelets for me with a gold coin. Though I appreciate it, she was quite strange." Kai frowned slightly as he recalled that young lady. "She knows my name but I don't know hers. Even when I asked for her name very politely, she rejected me even though she knew I was the duke. Strange, right?" Kai laughed a little in the end.

And then he looked at Helix curiously. "Do you think I knew her before I lost my memories?"

There are a lot of characters with blonde hair in the novel. Whatever shade was not really mentioned so Kai really has no clue about that girl's identity.

When Kai asked his question, Helix somehow fell into a deep thought. He averted his gaze and stared at some corner instead. He even placed his spoon and fork down as a frown formed in his lips.

"I think I know who the person you're talking about is. But I don't think you knew her personally. As far as I knew, you two didn't have any contact." Helix lowered his head and muttered, "Is she planning on taking revenge?"

Though his voice is very faint, Kai still heard nevertheless.

"..."

Revenge??

Wait, actually, there was one character that has bright golden hair and has a very important role… But no, no, why would someone as high and important as her appear in the crowded streets of the capital without any protector…

... Wait, was it because of the pill Kai received from Helix?

Kai was troubled.

But Helix only clicked his tongue and continued eating. "Well, what else?" Helix swallowed after he chewed the pieces of food inside his mouth and then he looked at Kai. His eyes were narrowed and he's looking more dangerous than a moment ago.

Kai was used to this so he helplessly smiled.

"What that man said before he sent us back here, what did he mean by it? What did you two talk about?"

Of course he's going to talk about this…

"Well… the king had assigned me a task. I also wanted to talk about this with you, I need your help with this. I'm quite unreliable with my current level after all." Kai sighed defeatedly. He then summarized what Seth told him in front of the king earlier and then again, sighed.

"What am I even going to do against a demon beast?"

Helix continued to stare at Kai coldly before humming shortly in response. "Indeed. You're very weak, against a horde of magic beasts, you won't be able to survive. Against a demon beast, you're even more hopeless." He raised an eyebrow and continued, "Well? What did that man say?"

Obviously, Kai has to answer this question. But for a moment he hesitated. 'Should I tell him that I was brought to the magic tower? And that his younger brother striked a conversation with me first?'

"... Seth said that he personally knew of this demon beast. He told me that after we arrived here." Kai paused to think of how to summarize the conversation between him and Seth. "Well, to make it short, he told me that this demon beast is harmless. And that he didn't want it to be brought to the capital. So he asked me for a favor to keep it here. He also said that he'll take responsibility and convince the king to let it stay here… That's all."

Even after saying this much, Helix remained quiet. Only the noise of his utensils clanking on the glass plate as he ate were heard coming from him.

"That's all?"

"..."

"... The prince talked to me, saying that he wanted to get along with me in the future. Then, before coming back to the inn, Seth brought me to the magic tower."

Kai and his loose mouth. He can hardly keep a secret from this man.

It's not like he minded much though, as long as the secret regarding his transmigration don't escape his own lips…

Helix finally moved his gaze from his food and looked at Kai. His eyes finally softened quite a lot as he muttered, "Cain did…?"

"Right before we left the capital, yes."

Helix fell into silence, he just stared blankly towards Kai for a long while. Then he closed his eyes for a moment before opening them again. His gaze is sharp and cold again, like earlier.

"And that man brought you to the magic tower?"

Kai meekly nodded and added, "He only brought me there to give me the notebook. Then, he also showed me how to create a formation… We didn't stay long, we went back to the inn afterwards." Kai didn't lie at all when he said these words. But Helix looked even angrier.

"... Damned man." He cursed, clenching his teeth as he glared at the innocent Kai.

"..."

Him and his temper… and also his great dislike towards Seth…
