Chapter 488: The Communiqué 3

There was a protocol in all the border bases as well as in the main cities of the states, and that was to provide a standard survival kit containing essential items.

In the central base, Guillermo held the highest authority, and his people had already prepared a large quantity of supplies. Everyone had received two sets of clothing along with some daily necessities, including toothpaste and toothbrushes.

Some of the people who were most concerned about oral care couldn't help but cry upon receiving this thing they had considered unnecessary before coming here.

After assigning survivor numbers and receiving their identification bandanas, everyone eventually left the bath area. Their hair was still damp, and their clean faces reflected the happiness of all.

Carol looked at the joyful crowd with a smile, and when everyone had exited, she resumed her communication duties. "Alright, everyone put your belongings in the rooms first. I'll wait for you here, and then we'll go to the cafeteria for a meal. Don't forget to bring your lunch boxes."

Upon hearing her words, everyone stopped and rushed to the dormitory in the next second. In just five minutes, a large number of people gathered in front of Carol again, all with expressions of excitement.

Carol signaled them with her hand, maintaining her undiminished smile, and then led the large group of people to the cafeteria.

Due to the increased number of people in the community, a place like this could not accommodate more than five thousand people. However, it was unnecessary to expand the place for this reason alone. Therefore, those in higher ranks would take their lunch boxes and return to their dormitories or an open area to eat.

Now, Carol and the others are helping these newcomers familiarize themselves with the environment, at least providing them with more information about how things normally operate here.

Before reaching the cafeteria, the smell of meat was already strong. At this moment, the eyes of those who hadn't eaten well for two years were glistening, and several people had already rushed to the front of the line, wanting to be the first to grab the food as if they were afraid it would run out.

At that moment, a small figure walked from the entrance of the cafeteria. Clearly, it was a child, but the few people who rushed to the front had no intention of stopping. When Carol saw the child, who was unaware of the chaos that had ensued, she warned him with concern.

"Carl, be careful."

Although Carol witnessed this scene, she couldn't stop it at that moment and could only shout a warning to Carl, who hadn't yet realized what was happening.

Just as they were about to knock down Carl, two strong legs, one left and one right, appeared in their path.

"Ahhhh! Damn it!"

"Who the hell tripped me?"

The few people who fell one after another in a ball-like shape covered the spots where they were hit and were about to stand up to fight. However, their movements froze when they heard a click next to them—the simple sound of a weapon ready to fire, causing everyone to calm down, and many men's mouths closed before even looking in the direction the sound came from.

However, the person holding the weapon was none other than Carol, who had previously seemed harmless to humans and animals. In that moment, she looked at them with wide eyes, gripping the weapon firmly in the air, and everyone instinctively knew that if they made a move, they would be dead.

After a few brief seconds, a group of guards arrived, aiming their weapons at the new group of survivors, ready to repel any form of aggression with a barrage of gunfire.

Some individuals who saw the barrels of the guns pointing at them immediately froze, forgetting about the delicious food they were about to eat, and they all raised their hands.

Carol recognized these two individuals. They were men who were on the red list, indicating that they needed special attention.

She could see these individuals raise their weapons, and everyone else retreated.

"If this child gets hurt, everything except tomorrow's hurricane will be insignificant to you. Do you have any idea who his father is?" Carol looked at everyone with great disappointment.

"We... we're sorry..."

"Don't give me that bullshit. You're worse than hungry dogs!" At that moment, a young man dressed in a standard military uniform approached and struck one of the men with the butt of his weapon.

Boom!

"Ahhh!"

"Troy, stop this instant!" Carol said upon seeing Troy hit the survivor.

Troy Otto, Nick's friend and a captain about to be assigned as the chief soldier of the eastern border zone, looked at Carol and said, "If you're going to aim a weapon at someone, at least use it. Even if you shoot into the air!"

"Carol, what's going on?"

At that moment, Carl, who had recovered, naturally drew his pistol from his waist and aimed it at the people on the ground. This scene left the men slightly stunned, and they looked at Carol with calmness. The latter didn't seem to respond in time; she simply looked at Carl with profound meaning.

"Well, you certainly have character." Troy smiled at young Carl and looked at the motionless people in front of him.

"Please, they made a mistake because they were too excited!" At that moment, Emilia, who was standing next to Adam, spoke up for the people on the ground.

"This base is governed by rules and control. It was written on the sheets they were given a few hours ago, but I believe most of them didn't read them..." Troy approached Emilia and warned her, "Although we are the future of humanity, we don't need trash like them. The commander has been very angry lately. One painful mistake and everyone can be eliminated."

"Don't misunderstand me, I'm doing this for their own good. Act in accordance with the laws and disciplines demanded in the central base. If you believe this is a violation of your rights, you can go to another city where things will be different."

"What's going on?" A majestic voice sounded, and Airon approached from behind the crowd, unbeknownst to anyone.
