Chapter 2: Message: I

She opened the door to the precinct, seeing three of her colleagues looking at her with wide smiles. They nodded to each other, and Aria just passed by to reach her desk.

"Callaghan, boss wants to see you." She heard low and almost menacing voice of Gaspard, an older colleague that was working with her at some point when she was just starting her adventure as a cop.

"Not surprised." She sighed, and then she tossed her bag on her chair, heading to the commander's office. She knocked, and when she heard some sort of unintelligible mumbling, she opened the door. "You wanted to see me, sir." She said, sitting down before he even showed her the chair. The man sighed, and then nodded.

"I have heard what happened, Callaghan." He glowered at her, but Aria just shrugged, scratching her cheek.

"As far as I am concerned, sir, the raid was actually a success."

"If it wasn't for the fact that the whole group was in danger because you almost blew up your cover." He rolled his eyes, raising his eyebrow. "Can you tell me, Callaghan, what the hell happened? What made you do something so stupid?"

She frowned, lowering her gaze and rubbing her chin for a brief moment. Then she shrugged, stopping the performance.

"Nothing. I just didn't really think anybody would get anything. Those people were idiots." She cleared her throat. "And that's why all of them are sitting in the jail right now."

"You know that I just can't let it slip this time?" he glanced at her vigilantly, but she didn't even flinch, still nonchalantly sitting on the chair, with her elbow outside the back part.

"Not that you had a lot to 'let slip'..." she marked the quotation mark in the air "...before. I mean, seriously, you told me yourself I'm the most efficient officer you have."

"I said that you were ALMOST the most efficient officer, but your efficiency is not going well with the costs you're generating." He huffed, opening some files and reading from them. "Arson. Provocation. Disobedience. Stealing. Jesus, Aria, do you even think? You're a cop!" he slammed the desktop, but she still didn't seem affected.

"Sir, I usually work undercover. Do I really need to remind you that it actually REQUIRES me to do shady things?" she scoffed, but her boss just groaned, shaking his head.

"And your manners are leaving a lot to be desired." He mumbled. "That's just over my head. I can't let you do that over and over again."

She moved a bit on the chair, looking at her boss vigilantly, trying to push down the unease.

"Are you just firing me, sir?"

He snorted, shaking his head.

"No, I am pissed, but I'm not an idiot, Callaghan. You'd be moved to another team. And you'd get a new partner."

She froze.

In that moment she would really prefer to be fired.
