Chapter 40: Chapter 13 - Giovanni (2)

"Um… Well, then… If you're sure." She swallows, sliding her seatbelt in place.

I close her door and get into my seat, glancing her way to check if she's ready before pulling the car back on the road. I let her type the address on the navigation screen so we can ride smoothly. It's a thirty-minute drive.

This has to be the longest time we'll be in close proximity, just the two of us. And while I don't mind the silence for the whole ride there, I feel the urge to ask her anything to keep her talking. I kinda like listening to her voice.

"So," I start, "How did your birthday go? Did you have fun with your friend?"

Malia snaps her head to me, studying my profile and then a cute smile appears on her lips. Her eyes twinkle under the outside light we passed through just now. Fuck me, she has a dimple on the right corner of her lips and I only noticed.

"It was nice. Thank you for the cake, by the way. Erica said you paid for it."
