Chapter 7
I wonder what the fuck this player of a boyfriend has composed in his head. I know he is guilty but I know owe it to myself to listen to him.
I know by now that he is a good actor, a very good one at that. He could win a Grammy. I don't know what he has come up with but I just know he's going to lie, I mean that's what players do right?
"R-reeva I I -" he stammered interrupting my thoughts. Go on lie 'I don't know she made me do it' or whatever you wanna say but I'm not a fool to believe your lies.
I will not look at his eyes those beautiful eyes those alluring bright brown eyes, what am I thinking this boy just cheated on me, God who am I.
"-am sorry" he continued causing me to blink rapidly. Whattt!, is he apologizing? I thought he would come up with some lies, playboy shit. Maybe I didn't hear him well I guess.
"I'm sorry Reeva" he said again making me look up to his eyes. God not those eyes. And that was when I saw that he looked really sincere, he's eyes so pure anyone would believe him looking at his eyes.
And at this moment I forgot he was the one who cheated on me. All I want to do right now is too forgive him.
"Why did you kiss her?" I interrogated him.
"I really sorry ok. I guess I'm just so used to being a player that when she flirted with I gave in. I didn't mean to hurt you" he explained to me.
Oh God he's just so good with apologies or is it the way his lips move while saying them, or the way his eyes look so sincere and alluring, or the way his voice beats on my ear drums so sweetly.
"Did you hear me ?" He asked looking at me expectantly, drawing me from my immoral thoughts.
"What did you say?" I asked shaking my head.
"I was asking if you could please forgive me" he said looking expectantly at me. And for a moment I felt special, don't ask me why, I'm crazy and that's my only explanation.
"Ummm yes I'll forgive you but if you do this again I won't let it go easily" I told him like a mom scolding her child.
"Yes I won't do this again I promise" he promised me. Now that's my good boy, good Michael, haha
"Ok I'll talk to you later I've got to go and prepare for my test" I told him. I don't have anything to say again so I have to excuse myself before I say something stupid or make it more awkward.
And with that I left for my class. Few minutes later we started writing English, then Visual Arts and soon we were done with Chemistry.
The test was a breeze for me and with the look on some students faces shows that the test wasn't friendly to them. If only they would take their studies more seriously maybe chemistry wouldn't have been that bad for them.
I think about going to see Michael but decide against it. I shouldn't be clingy after this, he should know that this still hurts. And we both need space for now I guess.
I call Nathan and tell him to meet me at the school gate. Few minutes later he came and we stopped a taxi to go home.
"How are things going? I mean with Michael" Nate asked me
"Ummm we cool now I forgave him today, but I think we should give ourselves space for the meantime" I told him truthfully
"What did he say?" he asked me
"What's with all these questions Detective Sherlock Holmes?" I joked trying to ease the serious mood
"I'm serious Reeva what did he say?" He asked me sternly
"Ok, ok chill out he said he was sorry I thought maybe he would come up with a cock and bull story or give me irrelevant explanations or something" I explained to him
"He really said he was sorry" Nate said more like a question than a statement
"Yes it confused me too" I said to him
"Just be careful ok" he said earning a nod from me
"And be strong in case he does this again, I can't tell you not to date him cuz of what he has done, you too have to experience some things so..." He shrugged leaving me confused. I couldn't help but relate his words with Raphael's words, but I brush it aside.
2 days later
"Beep beep beep!!!" My alarm goes and I turn it off, snoozing for extra forty-five minutes. I'm just too tired from yesterday I read all through the night. Thank God today is the last day of our tests. We have Animal Husbandry, Computer Science and Biology.
"Ahhhh-hhaaaaaa" I wake up yawning forty-five minutes later. I'm happy I risked this time but I have to prepare fast I can't miss my tests today.
I do my daily routine but rushed today. I didn't even get to iron my dress. I'm usually the neat type with straight clothes looking clean and good but I can't put my hygiene before my education.
I took the risk to sleep extra, and something has to pay for that time that I can't ever regain and that can't be me missing my tests. I've prepared adequately for them and I can't afford to miss it.
I rushed downstairs to eat. My sisters are just leaving the house and Nathan just finishing his food.
"What have you been doing ehn? Don't you know I have maths mock exam today, do you want me to miss them" Nathan queried me angrily
"I'm sorry I slept in today I was up all through the night" I apologized.
"Please just eat fast let's go abeg" he pleaded still angry, but it was more like a polite command .
I ate my food and we left for school.
Today we are kinda late so we rushed to our classes really quickly. It wasn't even up to five minutes when our invigilator arrived.
Soon we were done with all our subjects we were supposed to write today. I walk towards Stephanie and her friends.
"How far?" I asked Stephanie
"I'm ok at least biology didn't kill me it was quite easy" Stephanie said with a laugh.
"Ahem!" Cedar cleared his throat I think to get my attention, cuz I haven't acknowledged the group yet.
"Oh sorry guys didn't notice you guys till now" I joked
"Sure" Olamide said with sarcasm clear in her voice and I just rolled my eyes
" Guys I have the latest gist o" Destinie informed us
"What's that?" I asked, I saw myself interested in what she has to say. What can I say? I love gossips.
"I heard from Troy that some group of students in art class were caught participating in malpractice" she said smiling
"Who and who were involved?" Cedar asked Destinie
"Stop with the suspense complete the gist now" Stephanie told her
"Ok, ok chill guys, the worst part is that two of them are prefects and one is Owolabi the proprietor's son, the perfects are Jackson the sport prefect and Paula the Sanitary prefect and I think Salomi I never she would do that" Destinie informed us
Why will prefects do such a thing, they are supposed to set good examples for the juniors but here they are jeopardizing their reputation and the school's reputation. I would have loved to be a perfect but I'm new and I can't be given one think.
I was even supposed to be head perfect in my former school. Too bad I left.
"Whoa! What are they going to do because the school has no or low tolerance for exam malpractice depending on the level of offense " I asked them
"I don't know but this one that the proprietor's son is involved I think they will handle the matter lightly" Stephanie said with her hand placed on her chin
"But that is partiality" Olamide grumbled
"What do you expect it's normal, In this type of country you are in you are supposed to be used to people being partial" I said talking to Olamide
"This is Nigeria o" Cedar said supporting me
"I swear get used to it babe" Stephanie said talking to Olamide
"Me I will soon leave this country for you guys to enjoy" Olamide said jokingly
"As for me I will stay here. Nigeria na flexing county jor" Cedar said mixing english and pidgin and we all laughed at his joke
We were talking then I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and saw that it was Michael.
"Excuse me guys" I said to the group excusing myself from them and they nodded in unison not uttering a word
I left the class with Michael.
"Hey cupcake how were your tests?" He asked me
"They were good as always" I replied to him smiling
"Cool, do you have any chance tomorrow" he asked me
"Sure, what's up" I asked him
"Ummm I'm going swimming tomorrow I was wondering if you could come" he asked a little bit nervous, the tension between us has eased a little.
"Sure what time?" I asked him
"Around 1'o clock" he replied to me
"Ok call me" I said
"Sure" he answered
"I'll see you then, I gotta go now, Nate's probably waiting for me.
"Ok see you tomorrow" he said
And with that I left to look for Nate. We got home and went straight to my bed. Today is gonna be like my longest sleep since the tests begun. I'm anticipating my swim date with Michael and what he is gonna look like in his swim suits and what he's gonna think of me in mine.
