Chapter 14: Kai's Rage, Zayn's Decision
A dark aura covered every part of the man's body as a wicked smirk appeared on his face.
Two barbed horns jutted out of his forehead as his ears grew as long and pointy as an elf's. His eyes took on a dark shade of red; and from his back grew two enormous bat wings. His whole body turned a pale shade of white, with black markings spread all over it. His fingers gradually elongated into claws as did his legs. From his rear, a wicked looking nine feet long tail could be seen.
With a dark smirk on his face, he looked absolutely menacing.
"What's wrong? Have you lost your confidence?" He demanded evilly.
Vrrr!
The sound of air vibrating could be heard as the monstrous looking demon like creature disappeared from their vision.
Swish!
The three boys quickly ducked, hurriedly avoiding the sharp muscular tail that whipped fiercely at them.
The tail swiped forward like a weapon of death, narrowly missing the boys' heads.
Zayn grabbed his head with his hand, and brought it to his face. A few strands of hair could be seen on it, swaying gently.
That move would have lopped off his head if it were someone else!
His eyes turned cold.
"You should just stay still. You're not going to live much longer anyway." The demon's voice was cruel.
In a grossly unexpected move, the man's tail moved like lightning and brutally murdered his teammates in the blink of an eye.
"Wha— why?" The dark man heaved in shock.
The man did not bother explaining as all the blood began to seep out of their bodies and into his tail. Faint red markings could be seen shining with an ominous glow as four corpses slowly dropped to the ground with a thump.
The markings on his body began to glow brighter and brighter as his energy levels began to rapidly increase.
Swiping the golden blue axe off the ground by his tail and grabbing it with his hand, the man roared menacingly.
Screech!!!!
"This is what true power is! Hahaha! I shall devour your blood and make husks out of your corpses! Just surrender peacefully and let yourself get eaten!" The demon screamed.
"His energy levels have rapidly increased." Lynn stated.
"I can see that!" Kai shouted.
"Hmm...his energy levels should be at the threshold of Alpha grade." Zayn guessed.
"How do you know that? Can you read his signature?" Kai inquired.
"Don't know. Just a feeling." Zayn answered.
"Well, that is not much of a help now, is it?" Kai's voice was dripping with sarcasm.
Swish!
The demon appeared behind Kai, and made a huge gash on his back with the axe.
Kai's eyes widened in pain, shock and horror.
"Ahh!" He screamed.
'How the hell is he so fast?' Zayn racked his brain.
Grabbing Kai by the arm, Zayn quickly placed a considerable distance between them and the horror inducing figure.
"Running for your life? Smart move." The man grinned.
Chasing after them, lightning began to cover every inch of the axe. Raising it over his head like a war god, the man smashed it heavily on the ground.
Boom!
The earth beneath their feet exploded as blue lightning traveled towards the three.
"Dodge." Lynn warned.
The two of them jumped away from the bolt of lightning rushing towards them at opposite directions as the lightning bolt passed between them.
"There's no way that you boys can stop me! My Esper Ability is Bat Devil Transformation, ranked 400th on the Earth Rankings. And with the gene scroll derived from the Bloody Vampire Bat, your deaths are as good as sealed." The man laughed.
In the Terra Federation, the only and highest government on Earth, Esper abilities are classified in terms of potential. People with higher potential abilities can train and increase their genetic energy faster than those with lower potential. The classifications are six in number; E, D, C, B, A and S.
People with F class potential are known as Nulls. While they have relatively superior enhanced physiques compared to humans of Old Earth, they do not possess abilities and cannot train their genetic energy; and are forever doomed to be confined to the limits of the enhanced human physique.
The Heaven, Earth and Human rankings are specialized lists that determine the top 500 Esper Abilities man has been known to possess.
The top 500 abilities known to have A and S potential are classified into the Heaven ranking; the top 500 of B and C are classified into the Earth ranking; and the top 500 of D and E are classified into the Human rankings.
"Oh really? You're in for a big surprise." Kai said darkly. The huge gash on his back was nowhere to be seen, only the most murderous face one could ever put to mind.
Kai's blonde hair swayed wildly as it began to take a more lightened shade. A few seconds later, his hair had taken on a pure white color, like the fairest of snow. His face also began to take on a more handsome and masculine look. His sharpened jawline only served to make it look even better. His eyes began to take on a more irresistible shade of red. He looked more like a vampire prince charming than a human.
"You will pay. With your life." His voice was scary.
Zayn silently shook his head. This guy was done for. He'd probably not need to intervene in this fight.
"Hahaha. You think because you've gone a makeover, you'd be able to beat me with your pathetic level of strength. Utterly amusing, I must say." The man's tail swayed dangerously.
Before he could speak further, Kai's silhouette vanish from his sight and a fierce punch landed on his spine, shattering a few bones.
The man let out a pained screech.
"How? My energy levels are far greater than yours! How is it possible that you can injure me?" The man questioned dumbfoundedly.
"Hasn't anyone ever told you? It's not all about the energy. It's all about how you use it!" Kai's body had disappeared from vision before the last part of his voice could reach everyone's ears.
This time, a stunning kick landed on the side of the man's face, snapping one of his horns in half. Before the man could make a retreat, Kai had already decimated his body with kicks and punches, moving at a speed faster than the human eye.
His arm stretched forward as long as seven meters, and grabbed the scythe laying on the ground. With a loud swish, the scythe's blade eviscerated one of the man's wings.
Aah!
Two screams sounded in the wide space.
At the same time, Zayn quickly rushed forward to grab Kai, who was rolling on the ground screaming in excruciating pain.
"What the hell did you do?!" Zayn questioned with killing intent as he held Kai closely.
"Hahaha. Your friend is as good as dead. Despair and writhe in agony as you watch someone close to you die!" The man laughed madly.
"Don't...worry...about it. I'm...not going...to die. Not...before...I...kick...your...ass...first." Kai's handsome face had a smile on it as he looked at Zayn.
For some reason, this image drove a wrench into Zayn's heart.
"Why are you just standing there?! Can't you do anything? Do something you bastard!" Zayn raged at Lynn.
"Hahaha. Your heart has been filled with despair. My curse will devour your friend until nothing remains of him!" The man's mad grin remained on his face.
"You already have the crystal with you. I will not do anything more. You know what to do." Lynn stated.
"Don't be too hard...on Lynn. He's...kinda...right, you know? I'll heal...but only...you...can finish the job I started. Go take 'em out. For a spin." Kai's crimson eyes stared at Zayn.
"Stop it. You're gonna make them think we're gay." Zayn let out a small grin.
Zayn looked at the crystal in his hands as the bright glow of the crystal reflected in his cold, black eyes.
Should I do this? What I am waiting for? What's holding me back? What am I so scared of?
His mind pondered deeply.
All of a sudden, the crystal let out a bright glow that encapsulated Zayn's body. All the metallic objects present suddenly levitated in the air and turned into a massive cocoon that covered him like an egg. Thick sparks of electricity flashed around the cocoon.
The three of them looked at the bright metal cocoon about twenty meters tall with electricity traveled along its sides like a lightning rod with inexplicable emotion.
"What the?— Aah!" Zayn let out a scream.
