Chapter 4: Too Much Of A Coincidence

*knock knock*

Zuri was awoken by sound of knocking on her door.

She quickly adjusted herself and told the person to come in.

"Good afternoon ma'am", it was Kelly.

"yes?"

"Mr Xavier sent me to remind you about his check up"

"Okay I'll be there soon"

"Yes ma'am"

"oh and remember to take your pay from accounts... you're relieved"

"What?!..."

" you may leave now"

Deep down, Kelly knew it was coming but she thought that Zuri would just give her a warning.

Well... she thought wrong. Kelly hung her head low and left the office.

After she left, Zuri put on her labcoat and went to see Xavier.

Zuri stood at the door for some time, trying to fix her expression before knocking.

"Come in", Xavier's voice sounded a little hoarse.

Zuri entered and told him to sit up. aWhuke she was conducting the check up, Xavier didn't say a word.

She thought it was probably because of last night and she smiled.

Xavier noticed her smile and finally broke the silence,

"you should smile often"

Zuri didn't answer him and continued what she was doing. Xavier suddenly held her hand and looked into her eyes.

"You look stunning today"

She avoided his gaze and replied nonchalantly,

"Just today?"

"Nope... always", this time, he had a genuine smile and not a flirtatious one on his face.

Zuri then realized that his hand was still holding hers but as she tried to remove it, she noticed that his hand was bruised.

Xavier didn't know that she had seen it and just laughed. Zuri just rolled her eyes and said,

"okay I'm done for today"

"So soon?..."

"Yes Xavier"

"At least this time you called me by my name"

Zuri was about to leave the room when she noticed something on the bed side table.

That chain...

She couldn't move no matter how she tried.

'How is it here, could it be a similar one?'

Zuri remember the night Jason died and tears stood in her eyes and we're threatening to fall.

Because she was facing the door, Xavier had not idea why she had stopped. He thought that she found the chain attractive so he explained,

"It's beautiful isn't it?"

Zuri remained silent and he added,

"I actually don't know how I got it because I had an accident when I was younger and lost my memory"

Xavier looked like he was remembering something,

"I guess the person who gave me was very special to me... my dad said I held it subconsciously when I was in coma"

Xavier went to pick it up and was looking at it as he stood in front of her.

"hmm, 'Z' for Zuri I guess"

He smiled and looked up at her but she turned around and quickly hid cleaned her face with her hand.

"Are you okay?", Xavier was wondering why she was acting like that.

"I'm fine"

Zuri turned around and stared right at him.

"What type of accident were you in?"

Xavier found it strange that she was asking him this but he still answered her honestly.

" I was hit by a car while crossing the road I guess"

'the same thing'

Zuri then asked him another question,

"Do you have any pictures of when you were younger?"

"Well, come to think of it... I don't"

Zuri just nodded with a serious expression and left.

After she left, Xavier didn't think too much about it and laid down on his bed, facing the ceiling.

"Her smile is priceless... but why do I feel like I've seen it so many times"

Zuri, on the other hand, decided to get to the bottom of her confusion.

She had not really looked into Xavier, although he was her rival in the business industry.

Zuri sat at her desk and typed away on her laptop.

She eventually saw an article from about five years ago.

-20 YEAR OLD MAN RISING RAPIDLY IN THE BUSINESS WORLD-

Of course it was about Xavier but she saw 'that' man again.

Although he wore a face mask, she knew it was him. She then looked down at the description of the photo.

According to the description, that man... was Xavier's father?!

Zuri felt her head spinning and she was so confused.

What if it wasn't him and she was just hallucinating just because Xavier looked similar to Jason.

"I saw him get hit, I saw his lifeless body"

But... the same chain, the same accident, similar looking father, similar face.

Now, that was too much of a coincidence, and she did not believe in coincidences.

Zuri knew that she had to find out more from Xavier, but not making it look like she was digging into his past.

"He actually has a bruise... I can start from there"

She took a first aid kit from her office and headed to his room.

Because she had a lot on her mind, she forgot to knock and pushed open the door.

Zuri was greeted by a half naked Xavier. He had only a towel tied around his waist, leaving his chest bare.

It seemed like he had just come out of the bathroom as he had droplets of water on his body and hair.

Zuri became red in the face and quickly turned around.

"I-I'm sorry... for-forgot to knock!"

Xavier started laughing, took his clothes from the bed and went to the bedroom to change.

When he came back, he realized Zuri was still facing the door. He crept up behind her and tapped her shoulder,

"You're different today ice queen... what's the occasion", he had a goofy smile on his face.

She turned around and stared at him.

'I don't know if you are him, but if you are...'

This was what went on in her head as she looked at him.
