Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Shift

“Stop this!” Brynn snarled directly into the face of the Dagrun Pack’s Alpha.

A stillness settled over the clearing. Some of the crowd bared their teeth at Brynn for daring to address their Alpha in such a way. Others only stared in confusion. They all waited with bated breaths to see how their leader would respond.

The Alpha said nothing. His body was rigid and coiled, his face pale and tense. His eyes bore into Brynn’s, searching. They scanned her face, roving across her features as if drinking in every detail.

“Brynn …” William, still on his knees, called to her. She didn’t dare tear her eyes away from Cedric, but she could hear the anguish in William’s voice all the same. A fire roared within her, flames crashing behind her ribcage.

Reaching. Spreading. Growing.
