Rhiannon's POV

The sudden darkness chilled her to the bone, despite the summer heat.

Tears slipped down her cheeks, invisible in all the rain.

This was darkness. This was brokenness. This was crushing pain.

She had thrown herself at his very feet and he had stomped her like a roach.

Lightning cracked overhead, thunder roaring.

The rain became a torrential downpour.

Good.

She couldn't will her feet to move from their place. Maybe she would take root here, turn to oak and let her skin become gnarled bark. Let her be split into pieces and allow her broken heart to build someone else a timber home. Maybe he would touch her, and like Midas, he would turn her to gold. Let her be a statue, a dedication to broken hearts across the ages.

Rhiannon prayed to be able to sink to her knees, but her wobbling legs held fast.
