"I..." His lips trembled. Another withering effect he hated. "Evelina, I don't know what you want from me. What do you want?"

"I want you, Pete." She hurriedly answered because there was no denying it. Not anymore. Not to him. 

Not when her desire for him has become so overwhelming and overpowering. 

She had fought it. Battled it with mind and heart, will and strength. And now, when surrender was all that was left, she could say she had done everything she could to fight that earth-shattering feeling she had felt the first day she kissed him. That unexpected feeling that had rippled through her and started this fire that had all but consumed her.
