Chapter 4: Meeting Yeong-shin
When Seo-bi and Sung Woo were walking to the clinic they noticed everyone in the clinic was lively. Every patient was holding a bowl of soup while gnawing on a bone with the other hand. Seo-bi was confused and headed toward the kitchen. Sung Woo was disturbed knowing what was in the soup.
Sung woo frowned when he saw children and pregnant women drinking the soup. He then saw a man walk toward him with a hold a tray of soup. Sung Woo remembered this person was Yeong-shin.
Yeong-shin with a smile: hey newcomer, would you like some soup.
Sung Woo glared at Yeong-shin: what kind of soup?
Yeong-shin frowned: Deer soup
Sung Woo whispered: sorry I'm not interested in human meat.
Yeong-shin stared at Sung Woo. Yeong-shin wondered how he knew but then he broke from his stupor when he was dragged into a room by Seo-bi. Sung Woo followed. When the door closes Seo-bi explodes on Yeong-shin.
Seo-bi shoved Yeong-shin: how could you do this?
Yeong-shin play dumb: what are you talking about?
Seo-bi: how could you feed people human meat?
Yeong-shin getting slightly annoyed: do you expect us to starve to death?
Seo-bi: he was like fam...
Yeong-shin interrupted: does it matter?
Yeong-shin walked toward her: once you die you ain't nothing but a slab of meat.
Seo-bi burst into tears. When Yeong-shin got closer to Seo-bi, Sung Woo drew instantly and rested the tip of the blade on Yeong-shin's throat.
Sung Woo with a furious face: step any closer and I will turn you into "deer soup"
Yeong-shin took a step back. Seo-bi looked at Sung Woo thankfully. Yeong-shin looked at Sung Woo then glared at Seo-bi.
Yeong-shin with a madden face: I'll do whatever to survive.
Yeong-shin turned his head and faced Sung woo: I don't expect the king or the governor to help me, only I can help myself.
Sung Woo put the sword down and thought: never expect to hear that phrase in a long time.
Sung Woo sigh: you have to do what you had to do but you have no right to force this upon everyone else.
Yeong-shin protest: everyone was starving to death. What do you expect me to do?
Sung Woo raised his sword: did you eat the soup?
Yeong-shin stayed silent
Sung Woo: you can't even eat it yourself but lied and made everyone eat it. You know yourself can't even stomach it but you didn't care.
Yeong-shin looked down like a 9 year old that did something wrong.
Sung Woo: you want to be a hero but no better than a monster.
Suddenly everyone in the room heard a loud scream. Sung Woo turns around and notices it at night-time. The group was going to walk out but just as Yeong-shin was about to push open the door, something crashed into the door forcing the door to stay shut. Yeong-shin and Seo-bi step back while Sung Woo stands firm. They later saw blood dripping down on the cracks of the door.
Sung Woo grip his sword hard and whisper: so it has begun.
