Book I Chapter 30
…
That crafty look in his eyes made Hyuna feel like slapping herself.
When they were young, whenever this fool would discover something about her, he would always trick her into doing a lot of things on his whim.
For example, when he discovers her cooking, he would always requests her to cook for him. When he discovers her beautiful handwriting, he would always write those cringe letters that he would send to a female disciple.
Her talent in music was abused by this guy as he would always request her to play when they would be with other disciples playing around.
This guy would always do those underhanded tricks of his and threats to make her do some of those things.
Though she did not find them taxing or difficult, she just gets annoyed as she found him a bit demanding.
To stop his annoyance, she did not have a choice but to obey his whims.
And now, that same look in his eyes is telling her that the guy suddenly has an evil plan in mind.
"Hehe… Junior brother…" Il Kwan suddenly moved his seat beside Hyuna.
He then extended his arm behind her.
"You see… the… the sect assessment is coming… and a few of my… of our… fellow brothers and sisters have this bet…" he said with an evil grin.
Hyuna quickly moved and removes his arm from her shoulder.
"Nope… I cannot do that." She suddenly said.
"You just have to tell me who has already advanced… That's it…" he said with that same crafty smile on his face.
Hyuna could not help but massage her temple as she knew that another bout of headaches is coming. But she also knew that she has to follow this guy. Her innate ability to see one's potential and cultivation level is something of a secret. If it is known then she knew that big trouble would follow.
She trusted that this fellow would not reveal her secret. But she also felt a bit anxious that someone have known this.
She could only blame herself for not controlling her mouth.
She looks at the young man and could not help but control that deep affection in her heart.
…
The return to the sect is a bit bumpy as Il Kwan is unable to control the flying artifact that was given to him by his father which looks like a small boat.
In truth, as someone who is only at the Spirit refinement stage, Il Kwan should not be able to control any flying items. But these kinds of artifacts are rare and use spirit Qi stone as a battery to be able to fly.
But by using a spirit Qi stone, one is unable to make it fly smoothly or faster.
While flying, Il Kwan is thinking about what his friend had said. In fact, he is feeling a bit concerned as he knew that his friend is gifted.
He did not want those other people would see such gifts. For that reason, he would always play tricks on him so that he would turn vigilant.
But it seems that no matter how hard you try to conceal one's ability and talent there would always be a time when it would come out.
And now he discovers another dangerous talent that his friend has.
This talent would be such a burden to him as it is a very rare talent.
Knowing one's potential is a talent that many would want to get. If one could tell one's potential, then that would be a great asset to their clan or their sect.
However, that would also mean that the person with such talent would henceforth become a slave of that clan or sect.
And such a life he did not want his friend to live by.
It did not take long before the small boat arrives back to the sect and the two went to report.
"What happened?" the stern voice of Il San Joon made Hyuna's heart skip a beat.
She did not dare lift her head and just looks at the ground while twiddling her fingers.
Right now, she could feel that her uncle and aunt are angry. Though she felt a bit afraid, she also felt a bit warm inside of her heart as she could see the care that they are showing toward her.
After getting scolded, Hyuna just lowered her head and accepted her mistakes.
"I'm sorry… Auntie, uncle… I promise to be careful next time…" she said while biting her lips.
"Next time?! What do you mean next time?!" Il San Joon suddenly interrupted.
Hyuna was a bit stunned and then shook her head.
"I will not it again… I mean…" she corrected herself.
"Humph… Go and get your punishment…" Il San Joons said as he sent a folded paper to Hyuna.
She easily caught it with her fingers and then opened it up.
Upon seeing her catching that piece of paper with only her two fingers, the husband and wife looked at each and showed a hint of admiration in their eyes.
For some time now, they have observed this adoptive son of theirs, and the way they see it, he is almost like a cultivator. He only lacks the ability to cultivate.
Fast reflexes, strong body, knowledgeable and talented in many things, and could even read spirit manuals. All of these traits made him almost equal to an inner sect disciple.
And so, they could only lament the fact that he could not cultivate which is the only drawback.
Hyuna walks towards a small forest area at the back of the small manor.
From there she picks a tree and walks towards it.
She then began cutting the tree using the axe provided for her.
The punishment given to her is that she would need to do this chore every day for 1 month.
Though she has a valid reason why she has not returned to the sect. this is still the law implemented by the sect to those who would go out and never return to their designated time.
Except for missions and family visitations, such a punishment would always be executed for those who violate such a rule.
Days went by and soon, the Outer Sect will soon be receiving new disciples once again. But for Hyuna, such a thing is not of her concern.
She just lives her normal life as usual and goes on from day to day in the sect.
Hyuna discovered that in this one month of chopping some wood, she suddenly had an insight with regard to her swinging movement.
She suddenly discovered that there is actually a trick for her to easily cut a tree. All she needs to do is focus and practice her accuracy in swinging the axe.
After analyzing the swinging pattern, her eyes seem to have turned sharper and her speed and hand agility turned faster and more agile.
Her rate of chopping a single wood suddenly hastens and she could now chop a single large wood in just a few minutes.
As she continues to learn and improve her newfound training, her accuracy also increases.
While using a sword, she would chop wood but before returning she would use the sword to carve some words on the stones near the small forest.
Time went by and Hyuna did not know how long she had been practicing day to day. She only realized that she was truly engrossed in training when she received the command from her auntie that her task is done.
But Hyuna has not completed her training yet, so she just volunteered to chop wood every day.
It has already been a few months since she has begun training.
While wielding her sword she began engraving some runes on a stone when suddenly she noticed that her patterns and lines have already reached 98% perfection.
This made Hyuna feel excited. This only means one thing… she has now advanced to the next level of Rune Maker, the Rune Maker Adept stage.
Her speed suddenly increases as she carves a medium-level difficulty rune of water and wind. If she is able to carve it and the rune activates, then she knew that she has reached the Rune Maker Adept stage.
With her concentration at the max, she waves her blade and was soon able to finish the simple rune array.
Those who have reached the Rune Maker Adept could now make simple rune arrays. Unlike those that are in the elementary stage that can only form basic arrays in a line. Rune Maker Adept can combine basic runes and mix them up in a simple array.
After she finished the last line, she waves her hand and the sharp blade of the sword a light wound on one of her fingers.
With a wave, the blood flew on the array and disappears.
Hyuna waited with bated breath as she watches the stone.
Whoosh!!!
She suddenly felt a chilling air as a cold breeze blew coming from the stone.
Her eyes glinted as she knew that she has finally advanced to the adept stage with this result.
"Yes… Yes… Yes…" Hyuna cheered and almost shouted with joy while looking around.
She has finally advanced and with that advancement, she knew that she is ready to take on a more challenging task.
She stretches her wrists and cold feels the control of her muscles.
"That training was truly helpful…" she muttered with a big smile.
If not for the wood-cutting training, she would not have had an insight into her wrist training. And through that, she has advanced to the next level in rune making. She could not wait to go back to her room and apply her advanced skills to the test.
Last time, Ji Eun gave her a beautiful gift which seems a bit useless for her as they could only be fully utilized by a cultivator. Someone like her who is not a cultivator could not use such daggers.
But now that she has advanced to the Rune Maker Adept stage, she now has the confidence to try and use them by modifying their basic arrays.
