It was early afternoon when Minato woke up, prompted by a man opening his tent and entering.
"Sensei..." Minato murmured as Jiraiya approached with a smile.
"I see you've done well, there's a rather annoying man, complaining about how we let them get kidnapped..." Jiraiya spoke.
"Don't even mention it, Sensei... I almost punched him numerous times..." Minato admitted.
"I wouldn't be surprised if that happened, although I wouldn't recommend it... Besides, have you rested enough for us to return to the capital?" He asked.
"I rested a bit.. But I'm okay..." Minato said. He picked up a scroll, "These are the bodies of the ninjas I killed. Danzou wanted them, but I told him I had already handed them over to you," Minato said.
"Hm..." Jiraiya looked at the scroll and nodded. "That's good... that old man is quite greedy. It would be very bad if he snooped around our secrets... I also want to know how you managed to destroy that squad... I saw the terrain; it was completely devastated," Jiraiya commented, and Minato nodded.
"Can we talk about this later?" Minato said, after all, he wanted to leave that topic for when they reached Konoha.
"Well, let's head back then. I've alerted all the mission teams to meet us at the capital," Jiraiya said, and Minato nodded.
He got out of his bed and began to dress with some clothes he brought in a storage scroll and started to leave with his Sensei. While many looked at them, mainly at Jiraiya because of his status, some camp leaders approached and started to chat briefly.
"Let's get going." Jiraiya approached Minato again and said as a small squad was formed to escort the Daimyo back home. Soon, a squad appeared; it was two Leaf ninjas with two Uzumakis as well to help with the escort team.
"Well, let's go," Jiraiya said, and they began to leap toward the capital, Minato followed, but couldn't help feeling a gaze on him, as Danzou kept him in his sight in front of his tent, looking at Minato as if he were a diamond he wanted to carve.
They continued leaping between trees, as Minato caught up with Jiraiya in the front, the Daimyo was on a large platform being carried by ninjas, like his servants, it was a quite unique situation because no ninja would normally do this type of work, but here it was an emergency.
"Let's go faster!" he demanded, and all the ninjas wanted to hit him without exception.
"I heard at the camp that Danzou called you to a meeting..." Jiraiya mentioned, even though Minato had already told him he had asked for the bodies of the ninja, he still wanted to warn his student.
"Yes..." Minato spoke calmly.
"Be careful with that man," Jiraiya couldn't help but warn.
"I can understand why..." Minato said, knowing very well what that meant. "He asked if I wanted to join his Root, but I refused," he said.
Jiraiya seemed relieved. "Good, as long as I haven't lost my student," Jiraiya couldn't help but smile.
"It's going to be hard to get rid of me, Sensei..." Minato retorted.
"Well, anyway, let's go. It seems that man took a liking to you as well," Jiraiya pointed to the Daimyo. After all, they were to anticipate the return trip to meet the other teams, while an independent team was being assembled, but the man insisted that the boy be along, after he had saved him alone, and Jiraiya had no choice but to comply with the whims of the lord of the Land of Fire.
Anyway, Minato and Jiraiya continued their journey peacefully, while talking. "Jiraiya-sensei..." Minato suddenly spoke.
"Yes." Jiraiya looked at him.
"Did you manage to stop all those ninjas?" he asked, which made Jiraiya grow a bit somber.
"No... One escaped..." He still remembered trying to chase the man but failed in the end. "I put Aburame on it, hoping he can catch him, after all, I believe it was their strategy to pass on information about your ability, Minato," he said with an even darker tone.
"My abilities... My Raijin..." Minato couldn't help but comment.
"Yes, you slaughtered a bunch of ninjas, being just a child of 10 or 11 years... you know what this means...?" He looked very serious at Minato.
"That I'm a threat... even more important than the Daimyo?" Minato couldn't help but ask.
"Yes... You're already mastering the Second Hokage's technique and using it in a way I never imagined, you're just a child, you represent a significant danger to all nations in the ninja world..." He said while they were away from everyone else, having this type of conversation. "I'm guilty of this, after all, it was my duty to prevent this from happening..." Jiraiya spoke with an apologetic tone, as he had put Minato in danger by letting that ninja escape, hoping that Aburame would catch him.
"It's okay, Sensei..." Minato said, he still had the Pika Pika no Mi, which was his biggest secret... He could endure some assassination attempts.
"Even so... I want you to keep an eye on every detail around you, especially when we go to the border..." He said in a still serious tone.
Minato nodded and they continued their journey, reaching the capital a few hours later, or what remained of the Daimyo's castle in the distance.
The Daimyo was the first to speak as soon as he saw it, the place still had smoke from the flames created by ninjas with explosive tags. "How could this have happened?! My castle!!!" He began to cry.
"You are all incompetent! You let this happen!! I will withdraw funding to build an even bigger castle!!" he complained, while Jiraiya sighed, thinking the same thing as Minato, trying not to make a mistake there and slap that man.
They entered the place while the teams from the North were waiting for them in front of the Daimyo's property. Mikoto, Hanabi, the entire Team 2, the Uchiha jonin, Nara, and Yamanaka were there.
"Hello!" Minato greeted the girls, who smiled at him, while Jiraiya spoke with the jonins about the status of the mission.
"My castle!!!" The Daimyo got off the platform and started to rant in front of the gate.
"Is this the Daimyo...?" Hanabi asked a bit oddly.
"You! You must pay for this immediately!!" He pointed at the ninjas who were on the mission.
"That..." Mikoto was at a loss for words.
"He's always like this... You'll get used to it... I guess..." Minato scratched his head at that.
While the Daimyo's family returned to a temporary residence with the ninjas from that camp staying as his bodyguards until Konoha sent new ninjas for the service, Minato and the others stayed in the capital waiting for Aburame that Jiraiya wanted to catch the ninja for Minato's sake...
"It looks like we finally finished a mission," Hanabi commented.
"Are we going to war after this...?" Mikoto asked.
"No, not yet," Jiraiya appeared saying with a small smile. "We should first go to the village to report what happened. Then we'll see where we go on the battlefield," he said, and the three nodded.
"So we'll finally go to the border..." Minato commented, Jiraiya didn't continue talking, as the Uchiha brought some scrolls along with Nara.
"They're here..." Nara said with a tone not very happy.
"I see..." Jiraiya also looked melancholic.
"What's that?" Tsume asked beside them.
"These are the bodies of the dead..." Minato said, making both his team and Team 2 surprised.
"So..." Mikoto murmured.
"Yes..." Minato answered her unspoken question, in those scrolls, there were the 3 ninjas who came with them, a civilian, a Senju, and another Hatake... All dead in the mission and there were also the other bodyguards, who were jonins working as bodyguards.
Jiraiya then decided to speak, "We should take their bodies and have a burial in Konoha," he commented. Minato nodded, seeing how easily people died in this world and he would have to get used to it...
They stayed a while longer until Aburame finally appeared. "Sorry... he crossed the border." He said for not having caught the stone ninja.
"That's bad..." Jiraiya couldn't help but comment looking at Minato.
Minato, although he would have liked to keep the Raijin as a secret, could deal with the possible assassination attempts with his powers.
"Alright then, let's return," Jiraiya gave the order, and they would begin to return to the Village with all the groups and the bodies of the ninjas who died in the battle.
"I want the boy as my bodyguard!" the Daimyo spoke again, hoping to have Minato by his side, who looked lostly at his sensei.
"Listen, Lord Daimyo..." Jiraiya tried to flatter him so that Minato could return to the village, and it was only after 15 minutes of trying to convince him that he agreed. "I want you to bring people as competent as this boy, otherwise... forget all the funding from Konoha!" He exclaimed while Minato rolled his eyes.
They then finally left the capital and headed southeast, where there was a civilian jonin who had been injured in the battle against a group that Minato, his team, and the jonin had faced.
The man was awake and better, and they finally started heading back to Konoha. "Hey," he said, approaching Minato. Despite wearing many bandages, he seemed well enough to move through the trees.
"Hm?" Minato looked at him.
"I saw what you did... I don't understand... yet... I'm grateful for you saving our lives, otherwise... we'd be like our other comrades..." He spoke. Minato had used the Raijin to catch the elite jonin who was almost killing them. This was the only visual witness, but he was quite grateful, and that was a positive point for Minato.
They continued their journey and stopped one night to camp, as Konoha was far enough away to take 2 days to reach.
"What will you do when you get to the village?" Mikoto asked Minato. Jiraiya had already said they would have at least a day off after the mission, and he could use the money he earned to have fun.
"I'm thinking of going out with a godson of mine, visit my orphanage and go out to eat something, what do you think?" Minato said, wanting to spend time with his team.
"That..." Hanabi was a bit surprised by this, and the same could be said for Mikoto.
"Let's do it. We're a team and should spend some time together." Minato said after all they would be at war soon, so they had to enjoy the little free time they had.
"Alright..." Mikoto said in the end, and Hanabi also nodded.
"Cool! I'll be waiting for you guys then..." Minato said with a smile.
They went to keep watch and then sleep soon after. The next day, they continued their path until late afternoon, as they finally arrived in the village area.
"Finally... we're back." Minato commented as they reached the village; the first mission they undertook had finally ended. Unfortunately, it wasn't easy and there had been some fatalities among the team, but still, it could be said to have been a success.
