Chapter Three

Ken sighed in annoyance, digging into his pocket and taking out a box.

Opening it up, he stared at the small cylinders that were filling the box and used his thumb to take one out. His lips closed around it and took out the rest, closing the box, he produced a small flame on the top of his thumb and lit up the end of the cigar.

Taking a breath, he felt the smoke entering his lungs, and with an exhale, it exited.

Smoking. Something he took to after finding out about what the cigars were made from, usually, they caused illness if the smoker was doing it for long periods of time but it didn't have any effect on him thanks to the same energy he used to produce fire seemingly out of nowhere.

Chi, something that everyone had, though, some had it more developed than others, being benders.

If manipulated correctly, it didn't have a limit, body enhancement, manipulation of elements, or longer lifespan. He had something similar to it in his old world, but it was far more diverse than here.

The only problem... These people didn't know jack shit about how to use it.

Earth bending, Water bending, and Air bending are the skills he acquired ever since he met Tenzin.

They called it Chi, but it was more like Ki manipulated in its purest form, or at least that's what he thought.

Metal bending, Blood bending, and Water healing were seemingly hard skills to learn but it all came simply to him.

He could be considered the second avatar but the only problem was that converting the energy took some time and he couldn't do it at the drop of a hat. So, he stuck with fire and its sub-element, Lightning.

The fire was destructive, wild, and powerful while lightning was fast and precise if used correctly.

The perfect combination... probably.

It was also the only element that came from the bender, so he didn't need earth like the earth benders, water like water benders, or air, like air benders.

"I see you still smoke. Must be a hard habit to break even if you can't do it."

He sighed and took another puff before turning his head to look at his father figure.

Tenzin walked up to him and stood at his side, looking over the field of white as the silence descended over the two.

Finally, seeming to have enough of the awkwardness, Tenzin spoke up.

"I'm sorry, Ken, you know how bad the state of republic city was when I took you in. It only worsened over time. If I could stay, I would."

Ken remained silent, watching absently as the cigar between his fingers slowly got smaller and smaller.

"I know, I know. It's just that, it would be nice if I got to see you more than once in a blue moon. Korra's nice and all, but I miss the kids."

Tenzin seemed to ponder his words for a bit before looking up at the sky.

"You can take the month break now if you want, I'm sure the children will be happy to have their brother back for a little while."

His eyes roamed over to his companion as he actually thought about the offer. He got a month's break each year, he could use it in portions or used it all at once. In the past, he used it in cases of emergency or if Tenzin wanted help around the Air temple while he was gone, but using it now would mean Pema having to deal with her newborn child while recovering, and he wasn't sure if Meelo would give her a break, Jinora and Ikki would behave but he would still rather be there for her. It was the least he could do.

"I was planning on taking the month off after Mom gave birth, to help her while she recovered..."

Tenzin smiled, closing his eyes and remembering how helpful he was when Meelo was born. Truly, a lifesaver, he wasn't sure if he would have survived Meelo and his antics.

He shuddered just thinking about it. If Ken didn't encourage him to draw and spend his energy on being creative, the results would have been... Devastating.

"Thank you, Ken."

The said teen smirked, sending a sly glance at his father and repressing a snicker.

"However, do tell, father, How many more siblings should I expect?"

Tenzin, who was a council member, a monk, and one of the last air benders... Chocked... On air.

HAH! He was hilarious!

"K-Ken!"

He burst out laughing.
