Chapter Two

Ken stood in anticipation.

They were coming!

It's been almost a year since he saw them, and he was getting antsy just by waiting. How could he not? They were family!

"You seem pretty excited."

Glancing to his side, he saw the Avatar, Koora, raising an eyebrow at him. Honestly, she could understand the excitement, but he seemed more excited than her.

"I am."

He answered blandly, the tone and his actions of balancing from one foot to another not matching each other.

Before she could ask another question, a sound familiar as flapping echoed in the air, gaining the trio's attention. Looking up, he saw the source of the sound.

A flying bison.

They were here.

Ken stopped trying to contain his excitement as fire burst from his legs, propelling him into the sky and toward the flying beast, leaving behind a chuckling Katara and an astonished Koora.

Ken flew through the air, on the path to intercept the flying bison. The intensity of the fire below his feet intensified and he shot past it. the source of his temporary flight got cut off as soon as he did and the teen started falling down, before he could go far, he landed on the bison, his face lit up into a smile as he looked at the passengers.

Three children, one man, and one woman.

"Meelo, Ikki, Jinora!"

He extended his hands to the sides as the three said children tackled him and his back collided with the saddle.

Laughing, he returned the hug as the three hugged him so tightly he thought that one of his ribs would break.

"Ken! Ken! Do you know who I am?! I bet you don't even recognize me!"

Smirking at Meelo, he picked him up by the back of his collar and brought him up to his face when he sat up. Taking a thoughtful expression, he let out a hum as the boy in his grip stared at him with a smirk.

"Hmm... Those gray eyes full of mischief, those thick eyebrows, that face... You must be Meelo!"

The kid pouted as he turned his head to the side, making him laugh out loud. Setting the boy down, he patted his head as he turned to the next brat that was responsible for his recent defeat.

"Ikki! How have you been, brat?"

The said girl with two buns on the side of her head smiled at him and started jumping up and down excitedly.

"I'm fine, Ken! How have you been? Do you have a girlfriend yet?"

His smile thinned at the mention of his nonexistent love life and he ruffled her hair in retaliation, getting an indignant squawk from the girl.

"I'm doing good, and no, I Don't."

Finally, he turned to the final person in like and raised a hand, which was slapped, then he lowered it, with his palm facing up. It was slapped again, and finally, he aimed the back of his hand forward and it collided with another.

Standing up, he sat the girl on his shoulder and smiled up at her.

"Well, Jinora, does your big brother need to scare off some boys?... With fire."

She giggled and patted him on the head as if to placate him.

"No need, ken, I can handle myself."

Smirking at her tone, he let her down and turned to the woman who had her hair tied in a low bun and had a noticeable bum on her stomach... Holy hell, she was pregnant... Again!

"Hey, Mom, how have you been?"

Kneeling down in front of the sitting woman, he hugged her, if before he thought that one of his ribs was broken, now, he felt like his lungs were about to be crushed.

"Hello, Ken, it's been such a long time."

Her name was Pema, a lovely and caring woman, a woman who took care of him like his own, fed him, dressed him, and loved him like a child he has given birth to on her own.

"Indeed, far too long."

Giving a final squeeze, he backed off and looked over to Tenzin who was riding the bison and landing it as they reunited.

Smiling, he walked over to the head of his current ride and sat down cross-legged, looking very pleased.

"Ken."

Tenzin nodded, in acknowledgment, looking at him with a smile.

"Dad."

They had landed, and now Tenzin was free. As he stood up and extended a hand for a handshake, he grasped it and pulled him into a hug.

"Good to see you again, dad."

___

"What do you mean, you're not staying?"

Ken asked with a frown, what the hell? Why would they leave so soon? Why even bother coming?

He can't even take a break to go with them because he was saving his month break for after the child was born to take care of the infant while tenzin helped Pema recover from childbirth.

This was such bullshit!

"I'm sorry, Ken, but the republic city needs me, it's a mess right now."

Tenzin looked down, avoiding his eyes.

Scoweling, he stood up and walked out of the room, Fucking politics.
