There is nothing. Nothing to see, nothing to feel, except nothingness.
A young boy can be seen walking in the darkness. The most eye-catching features are his eyes and hair which are dark red and blue respectively. This a feature that doesn't appear in combination or there was never a record of such occurrence.
'Where am I?', the boy wondered.
"System, where am I?"
There was no response.
'Is the system ignoring me?'
'What the hell is happening?'
The boy tried shouting but all he could hear is that he is speaking in a normal voice. It's like he can't shout at all. The best thing he can do is speak normally. He could walk but not run. It looks like something is restricting him.
'Where in the world is this?'
'Wait, the last thing I remember is...did I die again?'
"You are not dead," the boy heard someone speaking. He turned around to see a middle-aged man standing there with a scammer smile on him.
When the boy saw the man, he got frightened. For whatever reason, he could feel that there are restrictions placed on him. The man could hear his thoughts and the boy had a feeling that he was there because of this man.
This is someone that you can mess with easily.
"Who are you?" the boy asked masking his fear. The boy learned from his adventure that showing fear to an enemy is like one foot in the grave.
The man could see the mask and the fear behind him but he didn't bother, "Hmm, I have many names but for simplicity's sake, call me God of Chaos".
The boy got frightened when he heard the name.
A GOD!
Not any god but GOD OF CHAOS!
He felt that he is doomed even before he could enjoy his new life.
The man knew that he just dropped a nuke on the boy. He wanted to diffuse it, "Don't worry, here I am powerless as you are".
The boy nodded but didn't believe the man's words. There would be no way that the god of chaos could not mean harm. Even if he was going to die, that doesn't mean he had to infuriate a god. There are a lot of ways to die and he thought that an infuriated god might kill in the most gruesome way.
The man knew that the boy didn't believe him. He was the incarnation of chaos after all. So he asked, "Did you feel anything?"
"What do you mean?" the boy asked confused.
The man knows that it is not easy for a mortal to understand the meaning of words spoken by a god. This is their curse, they can never speak in direct words to mortals. Of course, they can directly speak what they meant by after that they would be restricted for a time.
So they have to choose the words wisely. "Tell me what do you feel around you?"
"Uh, nothing."
"Exactly."
"I don't understand."
"You would one day, probably if you continue to live", the man chuckled.
When the boy heard those words, he felt a shiver in his back. So he gripped himself and directly asked, "Did you bring me here to kill?"
The man laughed when he observed that the boy shivered, "You see me walking around or moving from this point?"
"No."
"You see that's the point. The more powerful you are, the more restrictions on you have. So unlike you who can move freely, I can't even lift my finger. The moment I do...forget it, there is no point in explaining. To answer your question earlier, No, in fact, to do the opposite."
Alex showed a confused face.
"Let me explain briefly. There is a cult in your world that is using my name to bring annihilation to the world. They caused the beast tide and your performance made you into their files. So watch your back."
"Uhhhh, seriously a cult. What shit luck I have?" shouted the boy but it came as he was speaking. He can't even vent properly.
The man laughed at that. The boy sure does have shit luck. He didn't even see the crust of it. This doesn't mean he was doomed, this means he would get a lot of opportunities.
"What do you want in return?" the boy asked after a bit of thought.
"Why do you think that I want something in return?"
"There is no such thing as free lunch."
"You are right, the only thing I need from you is to destroy the cult before they besmirch my name," the man saw the boy's face and asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Aren't you the god of chaos? so I thought you would want to cause chaos."
"Chaos, yes, one hundred percent but what those idiots are doing is annihilation and I am not a god of annihilation. For Chaos to happen there should be life. So I need a world with life, not one without."
"So what you are saying is that you wanted me to eliminate the cult so that chaos wouldn't."
"In a nutshell, yes."
"Sure, but I can't beat them especially if you are the one who's asking."
"Oh, why?"
"If a god is asking, that definitely means something massive. Even if you say it's a cult, I don't think it is something small, it should be something that has its hands in all empires and kingdoms. They wouldn't last if they didn't have some powerful backup."
"Wow, I thought you are dumb. It seems you improved a little."
"Thanks...I suppose," the boy replied, scratching his head. He wasn't sure if that was a compliment or an insult. He decided to take it as a compliment. If it was an insult, what can he really do? He was an ant in front of a god.
"Don't worry I wouldn't send you on such an endeavor without any help and reward. You had the darkness element before you consumed the water of oblivion, right? The help I would be giving you is a skill based on darkness, so you need to be cured to use it. As for the reward, you'll get it after you complete the quest.
Hmm, it seems we already spent a lot of time here. It won't do you any good to stay here for long", he waved his hand, "It's time for you to go back."
