The beasts clashed with the troops on the ground while the mages from the top of the walls fired at them decreasing the pressure on the troops.
"They dare to come to our house without permission, Kill them," shouted one of the soldiers.
"Kill."
"Kill."
The soldiers and adventurers started to kill in frenzy.
If they lose ground here, their families would suffer. In addition to that, the more they kill, the more merits they earn. It is the same for adventurers as it is for soldiers of the kingdom.
This was made so that there won't rise any rift between them. Rewards would always be based on merits. Soldiers are given monthly salaries as given. This is a battle, the kingdom doesn't reward cowards and idlers.
The only difference would be that adventurers are given monetary rewards or resources. A soldier can get a job promotion or even a noble title if they do well.
There are rare cases where an adventurer was given a noble title but as said it's rare. Most adventurers don't prefer those titles as they would be just titles without any income-earning lands.
On the other hand, using wealth, they can buy land which creates income. This is what most prefer.

'Shit, it is too much.'
'It is worst than what I had to endure in the forest.'
'Though 1-star beasts pose no threat to me if that is considered individually not when a couple of them attack at the same time.'

The leopard beast jumped onto Alex aiming to kill him. Since it was only 1-star, he nimbly dodged it before landing a strike on its neck.
Most beasts have some weak spots easily visible. The eyes and necks are weak and what most prefer. Then there are parts that most feel disgusting to attack with their weapons. These parts are most sensitive than the eyes and neck regions.
Alex learned about it too but was too disgusted to try using his saber. If he got some use and throw weapon he would use such a method.
Alex started to kill as many as he can. He was having his fill. He purposefully avoided 2-star beasts. When one caught his eyes he would put distance between them.
Though he won't lose, it won't be an easy win. His stamina would be consumed easily with a single fight.
Since he is considered 1-star there won't be any reduction in experience gained from killing 1-star beasts. 2-star beasts would give high experience but it won't be good in long battles like this.
Alex kept on slashing and killing hundreds of 1-star beasts. He took only one strike at a maximum of two to kill a 1-star beast. This didn't escape the eyes of the people.
Where did this beast come from?
This is what everyone thought in their hearts. They didn't feel any energy fluctuations from him and he is young.
If he didn't awaken then there is no way to perform like that. The solution is that his weapon mastery is high which would contradict his young age. They all wanted to cry.
How could this be?
A 1-star knight or mage can defeat a 1-star beast but not in one or two strikes. Only one of the higher power can do that. So the person has to be 2-star or higher.
Even though he is only one 1-star, there is no way he could gain such mastery in battle. Many battle veterans would puke blood if they see his performance. They had to go through hundreds of battles and many life-or-death situations in order to gain enlightenment but here stands a young man who didn't appear even to have reached twenty years of age.
With such power at a young age, there is no wrong in calling him a monster.
Unknown to Alex he was getting famous, which he wanted to not happen. He felt he isn't strong enough to stand against some old monsters if they wanted to use him. He needed to have at least some strength to successfully run away when faced with such monsters.
While killing the beasts, he didn't forget to help others. He pulled back a few people to the safety of walls, who got injured and almost crossed over if not for his interference.
The rescued thanked him to which he only smiled and got back to the battlefield.
Alex didn't think much as he only saw them as bonus rewards but one of them caught his eye or should say the system's non-existence eye.
He only saw a brief message notification. He couldn't see it through as they were in the middle of battle.
Though he rushed away he asked for the soldier's name. He made sure to remember her name and face before disappearing into the chaos.
The baron who was watching keenly over the battle didn't miss anything. The deeds of Alex didn't miss his eyes. He smiled in his head to see such a good genius who is also sympathetic to others.
His mind isn't only on killing enemies but also on protecting allies, a trait that most don't appear easily. Though many think that they are protecting by killing enemies, it's not enough when allies are killed on another side.
Who are they protecting then?
This is how a warrior should act, but he knows people's limitations. He can't drill such things into others but he can protect and nurture someone who has.
While baron was watching the battle from his walls, the other side is also watching the progress from the shadows of the forest.
Like the baron, the other party also didn't fail to notice Alex. Though he isn't attacking 2-star, they are sure they won't stand one on one against him.
