It wasn’t a bomb, but you could never be too careful. Double-checking just to be sure, Luke gave a nod that all was okay, at least for the moment.

Hiding the envelope under his vest Luke led the way back to the house with some explaining to do to those left behind.

They were still at the table, tea getting cold in front of them, as they waited for news about what was going on. That we came back in one piece hopefully did something to put their minds at ease.

“Lynn, Jenny, kindly take the kids upstairs,” I said.

“Righto,” Jenny replied, not thinking to ask why.

Lynn had more questions but eventually relented, helping lead the little ones away like ducklings, Carl tagging along to help Kevin with the stairs.

Luke placed the slit open envelope on the center of the desk and reached inside, pulling out a stack of photographs that had clearly been developed in a dark room.
