Chapter 2: Chapter One
"You smell that Max, that's actual cow shit!" Billy said, pinching his nose shut.
"I don't see any cows." Max rolled her eyes.
"You obviously haven't seen the high school girls." He replied. "So what you like it here now?"
"No." Max scoffed.
"So why are you defending it?" He raised an eyebrow.
"It's just, we're stuck here so." Max shrugged.
"Mm, you're right. We're stuck here." Billy nodded. "And who's fault is that?"
"Yours." Max said under her breathe.
"What? Did you say it was my fault?" He asked angrily.
"N-No." Max stammered.
"You know who's fault it is." Billy growled. "Say it."
"Max," He called, stringing her name out. "Say it."
Max sat there quietly, staring at the road ahead of them, clenching her teeth.
"Say it!"
Billy stomped on the gas pedal, leaves flying up behind them. He banged on the steering wheel along to the song that was playing.
"Billy, slow down." Max breathed.
"What Max? Are you scared?" He evilly laughed.
"Billy it's not funny!" She shouted. Her eyes widened as she saw someone standing in the road. As they approached the person, she could tell that it was a girl.
"It's your fault we're here." Billy roared as he looked over at Max, not bothering to look at the road.
The girl stood in the middle of the road, frozen.
"Billy, look out!" Max screamed. Billy whipped his head around to see the girl in the middle of the road. His eyes grew and he slammed on the breaks.
The tires screeched as the car came to a halt, barely missing the girl.
The girl stood there, still frozen. Her breath hitched in her throat as she made eye contact with Billy and Max.
Billy swung the car door, open stepping out. "Were you trying to fucking die?"
The girl stood there, panic filling her face. Her mind told her to run but her body wouldn't let her.
Max got out of the car, walking slowly towards the girl. Her face was dirty aswell as her clothes. She was barefoot and holding a small bag.
"Hello?" Billy shouted at the girl. The girl cut her eyes at Billy before looking back at Max.
"Are you okay? Are you lost?" Max said softly, walking towards her.
The girl shook her head no and pointed to the woods. "I live."
"In the woods?" Billy asked. "Max, come on. This girl is crazy."
"No." Max shook her head. "Do you need help?"
"No." The girl said. "Okay."
"Where did you come from?" Max questioned.
"Bad place." Lila shook her head.
Billy moved around the car, grabbing Max's arm. "Let's go."
"What's your name?" Max asked snatching her arm away from Billy.
"Lila."
"I'm Max, this is my brother Billy." Max said. "Come with us, Lila. We can help you."
"No, can help her." Billy shook his head. "And I'm not your brother."
"Safe?" Lila asked.
"Safe." Max nodded.
"Okay."
Billy sighed very loudly before getting into the car. Max helped Lila into the backseat and sat down beside her.
"Put this on." Max said grabbing her seatbealt and buckling it. "It helps keep you safe in a car."
"Safe." Lila nodded, buckling the seatbelt like Max showed her to.
Billy kept his eyes steady on the road. He couldn't believe he'd let Max bring this mental patient home. But something about this girl intrigued him.
"Max how are you going to explain this?" He asked glancing in the rearview mirror.
"No one will know. I'll hide her somehow." Max explained.
"You're insane." Billy scoffed. "I don't want any part in your delusional bullshit. This girl is crazy."
Lila stared at Billy before closing her eyes. She focused hard trying to slip into his mind. That was one of her abilities out of three. She could intrude into peoples thoughts.
"God, What is happening."
"I just want to go to home to California."
"I need a cigarette."
Lila's eyes opened before she tapped Billy on the shoulder. "California."
"What?" He asked.
"Home."
"What? Did you read my license tag?"
"License tag?" Lila asked.
"She doesn't even know what that is!" Max said. "How'd she know about California?"
"Mind." She said pointing to his head.
"Bullshit." Billy said. "You read my mind?"
Lila nodded.
"Max, she's insane."
