"Let's go."
I followed her back to the town where our cottage is closely located.
We went back to the old warehouse where we worked the previous day and earned our 28 copper coins.
They actually only hire men to lift the sacks, and if I didn't act as if I'm going crazy from starvation, they wouldn't even hire the both of us.
"The both of you are back again?" One of the men asked.
I crunched my nose as I smelt their sweaty bodies.
Penny nodded and we both lifted a sack, one of us each on the end since we can't carry one sack each like the men.
"You haven't found any job?" I smiled at the old man who asked me and shook my head.
Amos has been nice to both of us all this time.
He's actually very old, around 60 years old I think, but he can still lift a sack on his back despite his old age. He has to because he's the only one supporting his grandaughter.
I knew all of this because we've been talking to each other since then and he was the one who told us to try finding work in the next town.
"I told you to try the whorehouse! Hahaha!" One of the men said and laughed as if it was the greatest joke he has said.
And soon the other men followed suit and laughed.
After being here for about a week, I've realized that there are still people who are kind to help you and there are also people who are rude and will make fun of you.
This guy is clearly the latter.
"You'd surely get lots of customers!"
"That is not a nice thing to say to a young lady." Amos stated as he slapped the guy on his shoulder.
"What? I'm just telling the truth. You earn more money easily in whorehouses. You'd surely be hired there. And maybe we could get a discount?" He asked as he lightly laughed.
"I wouldn't even take you as my customer," I said, "even if I had to live on the streets and beg for a coin."
"What do you mean by that?"
"Are you really that stupid that you're incapable of understanding what I just said?"
"You have the nerve—"
"I actually do, Do you really believe I would simply listen and stand here as you degrade me? I would rather die than let your filthy hands touch even an inch of my skin."
"My Lady..." I felt Penny's hand grabbed my arm but I didn't break the eye contact with the guy.
He was about to talk when Amos grabbed his shoulder, "I said enough." He glared at me and I taunted him with a smile.
I wouldn't hesitate to slap him once another word came out from his filthy mouth again. I've been hearing some of the men mock my situation but I just let it pass, but talking about me sexually is another matter.
But then he simply turned around and went back to lifting the sacks.
Some of the men who gathered around us started to disperse.
Penny and I went back to lifting the sacks also. I thanked Amos for what he did' cause I know it wouldn't end like that if it weren't for him.
We lifted sacks the whole afternoon, with just a few rests in between. We only have water to quench our thirst and starvation.
"33, 34, and 35. We have 65 coins now. We can finally cook porridge once again."
I put the coins in a small bag and hid it on the bedside table.
"My Lady, do you think the gentleman who saved you will comeback again?"
I looked at her questioningly, "Why do you ask?"
"What will happen to the both of us if he makes us leave this cottage? Do we have to live on the streets?"
"We just have to make sure that we have enough money before that happens." I simply stated and dried my face with a towel.
However, at this rate, I doubt we could save money to rent a hut of our own. We really need to find an easy way for us to earn money.
"Penny.." I called her name, "What do you know about the whorehouse?" I asked when I remembered what the guy said.
"The whorehouse My Lady? I've actually never been to one before, but from what I know there are whorehouses in every city. And the well-known one is the Bare House as it has two districts. The Left District is where men go to hire women to quench their sexual desires, while the Right District which is known as Bare Elegance, is where men go to watch performance of kinds done by women. The women in Bare Elegance are not forced to entertain any customer from what I've heard."
"Performances such as?"
"Singing, dancing, poetry, music, are just the few things they do. Why do you ask my Lady?"
So, they just perform and they already earn large amount of money?
Isn't that a proper way to earn then?
"Where is this Right District that you're talking about?"
"Oh it's located in the Iragin City. I think it's a two day travel from here if you ride a carriage My Lady."
"Then let's work hard to earn more money this weekend."
"Yes I understand My Lady. If we have enough money I'll cook you a sumptuous meal with your favorites."
"No, let's save money first and go to the Right District."
"Wh-what?"
Right District.
Now I have a plan.
