I Know Magic!

Devlin noticed his mom and dad didn't look all that shocked but didn't respond right away. Kate then responded hesitating. "Are you saying I'm capable of this? I'm just a normal girl."

"Far from it! You're a witch my dear girl. Think about it, you ever experience anything abnormal? Anything you couldn't explain when you were angry or stressed?"

Kate thought about it, but still shook her head. "I can't..."

"Wait..I can.." Devlin's mother interrupted.

"Ester, we promised not to." Peter looked at his wife in shock.

Ester started to recall the event. "Its okay, this all makes sense now." Peter then recalled it.

Kate looked at them with curiosity. Devlin had no what they were talking about. He did go back in time, but this seems like an alternate world so he's not sure what event aligns with what. If magic was involved, he would've remembered.

"You didn't remember Kate but we didn't want to tell you either. No harm was done and it all started due to my carelessness." Ester said.

Kate struggled and gave a questionable look to her parents. "What are you talking about?"

"A week before your seventh birthday. There was a fire in our kitchen." Peter said.

Ester began to tear up. "I put the ziti in the oven for dinner and then realized I didn't finish taking the laundry out of the washer to the dryer. So I went ahead to do that. There was 20-30 minutes before the ziti is done so I had time. Your aunt then called us and we got into an entertaining conversation. I lost track of time and then I smelled burning. Our fire alarm went off and when I went to check what it was, the ziti inside was on fire. Smoke was coming out of the oven. You were there sitting at the kitchen table with a coloring book. I rushed over to the kitchen to get you away from the stove, but it was too late."

Kate tilted her head. "Wait, I don't remember anything like that happening. Devy do you?"

"I don't either?" Devlin responded, even in his past life nothing like this happened.

"You were out with your dad." Ester clarified.

"But we're all fine?" Kate asked

"Yes. In regard to that." Ester replied. "I don't know if it was a gas leak, but the stove exploded. As I said before, it was too late to get you to safety. I rushed towards you and tried to cover you from harm as much as possible. Just as I was about to think I wouldn't make it, you screamed out crying and the explosion froze as if time stopped all of a sudden. I wasn't thinking about how it stopped, I just had to get you to safety. So I picked you up and ran. When I reached the living room, I turned around and then I saw it." Ester gulped. "Like how you rewind a vcr tape while still in play, the explosion reversed itself into the stove and the stove repaired itself. I couldn't believe what happened! But all of a sudden everything was undone, and you were passed out. You wouldn't wake up no matter how many times tried to wake you up but you didn't. I rushed you to the hospital as soon as possible.

Shortly after that, the doctors in the hospital just said it was just a fever and it'll pass. There were no abnormalities at all."

"Such a thing happened." Kate was surprised. "How come no one told me?"

"Kate dear, after all that, nothing else happened. We didn't know if it was you who did it or me? Either way, we didn't want to make any assumptions carelessly, so we waited. Waited for another sign that something supernatural happened around you or me." Ester explained. "Until now, nothing happened so we decided it best if we just left it alone."

Kate turned to Mrs. Sprout. "Then how do you know it is me?"

"There is a magic book and quill we call the Book of Admittance and the Quill of Acceptance in which at the precise moment that a child first exhibits signs of magic, the Quill will attempt to inscribe the name of that child in the pages of the Book of Admittance. That is how we discover who to accept into the academy and we the staff will admit the students to the school." Mrs. Sprout explains.

Ester asked looking at the paperwork also wanting to change the subject. "So how does this work? As you know, we are just normal people? I don't think I ever heard of any of these books and how does one shop for Magic wands and an owl?"

"I can help you with that! Because you are a muggle family, I have been brought here to assist you to get started into our magical community! It is late now, but tomorrow, I will escort you to a place where you can prepare all this stuff for your child and..."

"Excuse me Mrs. Sprout. Mom, Dad, Kate..sorry to interrupt..." Devlin raised his hand to get everyone's attention. "I also have something to show you." With his raised hand he pointed to the now succulent lantern created by Mrs. Sprout and gestured his finger upward. The succulent lantern started to float above the coffee table. Devlin's family gasped in surprise while Mrs. Sprout smiled. "I believe I'm also a wizard!"

Peter stared at his son in disbelief as the floating magic succulent lantern created by Mrs. Sprout dangles in front of them. "Since when can you do this?"

"About a month ago?" Devlin thought about his story. "I woke up from a crazy dream and all my toys were floating in the air. But then it all of a sudden dropped." Devlin told the convenience of his story to a dream. He couldn't tell his parents nor anyone that he grew up, lived an adult life, then woke up young again finding out his childhood is now merged into a Harry Potter world.

Mrs. Sprout smiled. "Well now isn't this a surprise. I believe what it is possible the either one of you or both has some ancestry with magic. It's not uncommon nowadays to find some sort of heritage. Now for the true purpose of my visit. Do you wish to attend our Academy? If so, then we shall begin orientation as well as me being a guide for you all for Kate's school supplies. So, Mr. and Mrs. Delwyn, Kate, what do you think?"

Peter and Ester stare at each other and then stared at Kate. "If she wishes to, we'll support her."

"I WISH TO GO!" Kate raised her hand immediately after hearing her parents with a shine of excitement in her eyes.

Devlin raised his hand too. "I WANT TO GO TOO!" Mrs. Sprout laughed and pat Devlin on the head.

"How old are you young man?" Mrs. Sprout asks

Devlin knew that Hogwarts school starts at Year 7 or when he's 11 years old. "I just turned 10 last April 5!" He was curious if there was anything he can do before going to Hogwarts.

"Then sadly you will have to wait until next year and you will receive your acceptance letter then. Kids your age must complete a basic level of education before starting to learn how to use magic efficiently." Mrs. Sprout leaned closer to Devlin. "But keep calm, don't make any trouble, and try to continue controlling your magic like you did with that plant. But only at home! Do not do this in public." Mrs. Sprout stood up and addressed the family. "Tomorrow afternoon, I will arrive here with transport. And I will bring you to a special place." Mrs. Sprout was escorted out by Devlin's parents as the two siblings express their excitement.

Devlin laid down on his bed thinking of the events that just happened. Many questions went through his mind. "Will the iPhone and google still be a big thing in this world? Hermione certainly exists, how about the others?" Devlin's thoughts turn dark, "If they do, then a war is possible. My existence here and my knowledge will cause a butterfly effect so I believe that not all events will happen exactly how it did in the book."

Devlin points at his alarm clock and causes it to float it up in the air. "This is the best I can do right now. I don't believe I'm a cheat, but having memories of my old life and having an adult mindset can be an advantage on its own. I've made too many bad choices in my previous life that I could've taken advantage of. I won't miss this opportunity."

The next day, Mrs. Sprout picked the Delwyn family up in a regular minivan with a driver dressed in a casual business suit and drove them to London's West End. During the ride, Mrs. Sprout explained the basic knowledge of the Magic Society, their structure, and how they are able to co-exist without letting their existence known. She also gave the Delwyn parents addresses, and information on how to get where they are going now, since after today, she will not be escorting them. Once the car was parked, they started walking down Charing Cross Road with Mrs. Sprout taking the lead. As they walk down the street, Kate holds onto the sheet full of requirements needed for attending the school.

"Mrs. Sprout, are all these things really available here?" Kate questioning looks full of doubt at the second-hand bookshop and antiques.

Mrs. Sprout smiles. "Oh yes my dear girl, but only if you look closely. Ah..here we are" Mrs. Sprout walked towards an unwelcoming entrance next to an old used book store.

"Wow this place certainly sticks out. I'm surprised I didn't notice this earlier." Peter said as he stared at the dark rustic section of the shopping area. Unlike the blue building next to it, the place has old rustic wood surrounding it with an old fashion sign hanging by the door. It looks to be a rundown abandoned place.

"That is because there is a charm that prevents muggles from noticing it. You're with me and in the future with your kids, so you'll have no problems finding this place." Mrs. Sprout explains.

Kate looked in confusion. "The Leaky Cauldron.." She says out loud reading the rustic looking sign by the entrance.

"Looks can be deceiving. Come now, follow along." The Delwyn family looks confused as the follow Mrs. Sprout into the building.

As Devlin and his family went through, he felt like he went through another time slip. The people were all dressed differently. There was no electricity, but a very rustic looking environment with natural lighting assisted with candles and oil lanterns mounted on the wall.

"Whoa, Devy! Look at that" Kate excitingly taps Devlin on his shoulder gesturing him to look at a man who was reading the newspaper. What was special about the newspaper was the content. "Cornelius Fudge gets settled as the Minister for Magic...whoa did that picture just move?"

Devlin knew about it, but it was still surprising to him as reading about it and witnessing it is different. "That's cool!" Devlin responded excitingly. What caught is eye more was the title. Seeing Cornelius Fudge's there caught his interest, but there was no large reaction. After experiencing meeting similar characters, he decided to look the people he meets as they are in front of them and deal with it as it comes. Now is not the time to think of every variable he may or may not meet.

Mrs. Sprout continues walking through gesturing the family to follow. "Ahh Pomona! Fancy seeing you here." A man behind the counter greets Mrs. Sprout.

"Oh Tom, always a pleasure! This here is the Delwyn Family. I will be assisting them to get this young lady her school supplies." She greets a familiar face.

Tom smiles at the young lady. "Oh then allow me to welcome you young Ms. Delwyn! I hope you have a great time. My name's Tom. If you or your family need any assistance going forward, you can ask for me."

Kate waves and smiles returning the greeting but also shifts closer to her father and then follows Mrs. Sprout towards the back exit along with the rest of her family. As they walk take the back exit, Devlin noticed that they were enclosed in a brick room. Mrs. Sprout then turns around.

"This here is important. Behind me is a special entrance to a shopping street we call Diagon Alley. In the past, Leaky Cauldron was open to both the muggle and wizard community. So while the front of it is a bar as you can see, the entrance to Diagon Alley is restricted." Mrs. Sprout then looks at the kids and smiles. "But because you are now part of our community thanks to your kids, and you will need access to this place as well. While there are other magical ways to access this place, this is the best way for muggle families to get to this place." Mrs. Sprout the takes out her wand and poses in front of the wall.

"The requirement is simple, with a magic wand which will be supplied to your children in the future, remember this sequence. You tap here first. and then here.." Mrs. Sprout continues to gesture the locations of the bricks and completes the combination. Once she completes the pattern, the bricks begin to move themselves into the wall and then the entrance opens up revealing an lively exciting alleyway full of people, kids walking from store to store shopping, playing and greeting each other.

Devlin and his family stare in amazement at the scene in front of them.

Mrs. Sprout stands by the entrance. "Welcome to Diagon Alley."
