October 8-10, 2017 (Pregnancy week 31)
“Are there any updates?” Imra asked, pacing worriedly.
“He's stable for now,” Alex replied.
“We're still analyzing his genetic makeup so we can treat him properly,” Winn informed them. “I mean, is there anything you can tell us to help?”
“He's from Winath,” Imra told them. “Without power to the ship he may have been off life support longer than we think,” she worried.
“Who is he?” Kara asked.
Imra sighed. “His name is Garth Ranzz. He’s my husband.”
Kara examined his features. His brown hair was wildly sticking up everywhere, but his face was rather handsome. She couldn’t see his eyes, since they were closed, but he had a tall, wiry frame, lightly muscled, but not overly so.
“Why did you fire on the divers in that submersible?” Alex quizzed Imra.
“I didn't,” Imra swore. “I heard the ship's defense system activate though. Is everyone okay?”
“Yeah, they got out of there in time,” Kara assured her.
“That's some ship you got there,” J’onn commented. “I've never seen anything like it.”
Imra nodded. “It's, uh... It's alien.”
“Who are in the other chambers?” Alex asked.
“Other members of the Legion,” Imra replied.
“Are they dangerous?” Alex worried.
Imra chuckled. “Depends on who you ask, but no. No, they're, um... They're like me.”
“Why did you wake up and everybody else is still asleep?” Winn was dying to know.
“I’m… not sure,” Imra shrugged. “It must have had something to do with the bomb that hit us.” She stared worriedly at her husband.
Kara patted Imra’s shoulder in sympathy. “Why didn’t you wake the others while we were there?”
“There’s a healing serum in the chambers,” Imra explained. “I wanted to make sure they were OK first before pulling them out.”
“Ah. I see,” Kara replied.
“Winn, will you let us know if his condition changes?” Alex requested.
Winn nodded. “Yeah, of course.”
Alex and Kara excused themselves from the room, leaving Garth and Imra with J’onn and Winn. Dr. Hamilton was on standby, just in case.
“They’re from the future,” Kara sighed.
“Yeah, I can safely say I was not expecting that.” Alex took Kara’s hand. “Let’s go downstairs and get some food. I’m hungry.”
“OK, baby.”

Back at the mansion, the gang was hanging out in the ‘pool hall.’ Maggie was trying to instruct the kids in how to play, but it was impossible for her to show them by example because of the baby. Luckily, the kids were smart, and they were picking it up fairly well.
“Lean down more,” she told Ruby. “Get right up in line with the ball.”
Ruby did as she was told and almost sunk a ball that time. The preteen pouted when she missed yet again.
“It’s OK, sweetie,” Maggie encouraged. “That was good. Just keep trying.”
The kids took turns, and every time one of them sunk a ball, they all cheered. Sam, Douglas, and Cat were a little tipsy, but they were happy and having fun, and they seemed to cheer even louder than before. Maggie chuckled to herself, wishing she could drink too, but she wasn’t as angry about having to stop as she was when she first found out she was pregnant. Now, she was just determined to have a healthy baby, and abstaining didn’t bother her as much. Even so, she looked forward to the future when the babies were weaned, and she didn’t have to nurse anymore, so she could finally have a drink again.
As she instructed the kids, she just sat on the sidelines holding Lena’s hand. They couldn’t really cuddle properly like they wanted to, but they made do. Occasionally, when she thought no one was looking, Maggie would steal a kiss from Lena, but mostly they were focused on the kids.
Lena looked at her watch. “The food should be here soon. I hope they hurry up. I’m starving.”
“Me too!” Jessie agreed.
Thankfully, about ten minutes later, the doorbell rang.
“Kids, will you go get the food, please?” Maggie requested.
“OK!” they said running for the front door.
When the kids returned, they were grinning like fools. “Look who’s here!” Jessie exclaimed joyfully.
Following behind them were Amy and Tara.
“Hey!” they all greeted one another. Maggie hoisted herself up to give her friends a hug. “It’s great to see you. What brings you over?”
Amy lifted the bags in her hands. “I saw whose order this was, and I couldn’t resist bringing it over myself. My shift was over, anyway. I hope you don’t mind us just dropping in. We wanted to come see how you all are and check out the new place.”
“Of course, we don’t mind,” Lena smiled at them. “You’re always welcome.”
“This house is no joke,” Amy commented. “So nice.”
“Girls, would you like to give Amy and Tara the tour?” Maggie suggested.
“Yeah!”
“Can we eat first?” Lena requested. “I’m hungry.”
“Sure!” Amy followed the gang towards the dining room, and she and Tara oohed and ahhed over everything.
“Aww, look at the little gold fishies!” Tara exclaimed when they passed the water feature in the foyer.
“Those are Mama’s fish,” Jessie explained. “You should have seen her beg for them. It was funny.”
Amy and Tara giggled.
When they got to the dining room, they divvied up the food and sat down to eat.
“So, what have you two been up to lately?” Maggie asked Amy and Tara.
“Just working, mostly,” Amy replied. “We’re boring, I know.”
“Amy’s teaching me how to play the guitar,” Tara added. “It’s fun.”
“Cool!” Jessie exclaimed. “I want to learn an instrument!”
“Like what?” Amy asked.
Jessie shrugged. “I don’t know. Anything, really.”
“If you’re serious about it, and you pick an instrument that you like, I’d be willing to sign you up for music lessons,” Lena offered.
“You would?” Jessie’s eyes lit up.
“Of course. Music is a wonderful thing to have in your life. But I would be very upset with you, if we went through all the trouble of getting you an instrument, and then you didn’t play it.”
“Maybe you could come over one day, and you can see if you like any of the instruments we have,” Amy suggested. “There’s drums, keyboards, guitars, and bass.”
Jessie pursed her lips in thought. “I’d be afraid of breaking the drums. But maybe one of the other ones.”
“Don’t you have a power dampener?” Amy reminded her.
“Hmm, that’s a good point,” Jessie mused. “And the drums do seem really fun.”
“What about you, Jamie?” Lena asked. “Do you want to play an instrument?”
“Maybe,” Jamie replied. “I’d want to play something that I can sing along with, so no drums or anything that I have to use my mouth to play. Maybe the guitar, or the keyboard.”
“Alright, well, you think about it, and let me know,” Lena told them. “You can get lessons any time of the year, so you don’t have a deadline.”
The twins nodded. “Thank you, Lena.”
The group made small talk for a while until Maggie remembered something she wanted to ask Amy. “So, are you planning to rejoin Supergirl anytime in the near future?”
Amy took a drink and swallowed her food, “Actually, Tara and I have been talking about that. She knows the store inside and out, and she’s willing to take on a little more responsibility there, so that I can be free to do that. I wanted to wait a little bit to make sure the restaurant was going to recover, and now that it has, I’m more comfortable leaving it for a few extra hours.”
The twins clapped their hands. “Woohoo!”
“Just in time to help with the Worldkiller,” Cat commented.
“The what?” Amy frowned.
“The new big bad, apparently,” Ms. Grant explained. “Though we have yet to see her appear beyond marking the city.”
“So that’s what those things are,” said Tara. “We were wondering.”
The gang explained the little they knew to their guests.
“OK, well, it sounds like I need to get back to training right away,” Amy mused. “Are you ready for that?” she asked Tara.
Tara smiled. “Go get ‘em sweetheart.”
Amy grinned and gave her girlfriend a quick kiss. “Thank you, my love.”
“Speaking of helping,” Sam interjected, “Douglas and I were talking yesterday, and we were wondering if you guys would like all of us to stay here with you when the babies are born. I remember vividly how hard it was trying to raise Ruby alone after my mom kicked me out, and that was just one baby. You guys are having four babies, and I’d rather you have more help than what you need than not enough.”
“That might not be a bad idea,” Lena nodded. “We’ll talk to Kara and Alex about it when they get home.”
“Sounds good,” Sam smiled. “Besides that, I don’t know how I’m gonna drag Ruby away from the babies once they arrive.”
Everyone laughed.
“You’re gonna have half the city camped out at your house wanting to have their turn with the babies,” Amy chuckled.
Maggie grimaced. “I hope that’s not true. Our wall will be done by then, right?”
Lena shrugged. “It’s supposed to be. I guess we’ll see.”
“Anyway, Eliza and Lyra will be around a lot too,” Maggie informed them. “So you won’t be stuck here all the time.”
“Well, I will still need to go to work, and Ruby will need to go to school, but the rest of the time, we’re yours,” Sam promised.
“We appreciate that,” Lena smiled fondly at her best friend.
“What are friends for?” Sam grinned back.

Back at the DEO, Alex and Kara were in the briefing room with J’onn, Lucy and Vasquez discussing the possibility of more Worldkillers.
“Ugh, we haven’t even found the first one, and now there’s three?” Lucy complained.
“Yeah, well, hopefully when this new guy wakes up, they can give us more information,” Alex mused. “Plus, now we’ll have a little more Super power to aid in catching them.”
“That’s assuming that these people are really on our side,” Vasquez pointed out.
“True,” J’onn agreed.
“I trust them,” Kara informed them.
“I trust you,” Alex nodded. “I’ll trust your judgement on this one.”
“They’re wearing the Crest of El,” Kara reminded her. “I have to hope that that means the same thing in the future that it does now.”
“Either way, we’ll have eyes on them,” J’onn said stoically. “I’m not taking any chances.”
“We should go check on them,” Alex told Kara.
Kara nodded. “Agreed.”
Lucy grunted. “Yeah, if this guy doesn’t wake up, Imra’s going to need someone better than Winn to comfort her.”
Alex chuckled. “That’s very true.”
They headed down to the medbay, and as they approached, they heard voices, but they were soft. Winn was getting more information about Garth’s anatomy, so that they were fully treating him properly. When they turned the corner and entered the room, Imra’s face lit up.
“You’re back!” she exclaimed.
“Yeah, we just had to feed the baby and talk to our boss,” Kara informed her. “How’s he doing?”
“He seems to be doing better,” Winn said, rechecking Garth’s vitals. “We’re hopeful.”
Alex and Kara had just sat down when Alex’s phone rang. “Hello, Jamie,” Alex greeted her daughter. “What’s up?”
“Mom, when are you coming home?” Jamie whined.
“I don’t know yet, honey. We’re kind of in the middle of something right now.”
Jamie sighed. “Everybody’s leaving. We want you to come home.”
Alex snorted. “Maggie and Lena are there. You’ll be fine.”
“But we’ve barely seen you all day!” Jamie argued.
“It’s not the end of the world,” she said gently. “You behave yourselves, or you’ll hear about it when I get home. Understood?”
“Yes, Mom,” Jamie submitted reluctantly.
“That means go to bed at bedtime, whether I’m home or not.”
“I know, Mom,” Jamie huffed.
“I love you, and at worst, I’ll see you tomorrow,” Alex promised.
“OK. Love you too. Bye.”
“Bye.”
Imra looked like she’d seen a miracle.
“What?” Alex asked, a little paranoid.
Imra shook her head. “I’m sorry. It’s just really cool getting to hear you talk to your children. I mean, there are so many generations of Supergirl’s descendants. It’s like watching history in the making.”
“How did you know I was talking to my children?” Alex asked suspiciously.
Imra chuckled. “I didn’t read your mind, silly. It was just sort of obvious by the way you were talking.”
“Oh,” Alex relaxed. “Gotcha.”
Suddenly Garth groaned, and everyone’s attention turned to him.
“Garth?” Imra called, running to his bedside.
“Imra?” Garth murmured.
“I’m here,” she soothed, stroking his cheek.
He seemed to struggle with opening his eyes. “I feel like I got hit by a planet,” he grumbled.
“I’m so glad you’re OK. I thought your life support failed,” Imra sighed in relief.
Garth finally blinked his eyes open and looked around him. “Are you sure it didn’t? I think I’m hallucinating.”
“Nope,” Winn chuckled. “You are not hallucinating. That’s really Supergirl.”
Garth stared in awe at the Kryptonian. “Wow, cool!”
Imra grinned.
“Who are you two?” Garth asked Winn and Alex.
“I’m Winn Schott,” the tech waved.
“And I’m Alex Danvers. Supergirl’s wife,” she nudged her head at the hero beside her.
Garth beamed. “Wow!” he said again.
“Wait, have you heard of us?” Winn checked.
Garth laughed a bit hysterically. When Alex, Kara, and Winn just stared at him, he stopped. “Oh, you’re serious...”
“Of course we’ve heard of you,” Imra chuckled. “The House of El is one of the most thorough history keepers of our time.”
Garth nodded. “Yeah, if it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t know half the things we do about Earth’s history.”
Alex and Kara shared a look of amazement.
“How are you feeling?” Alex changed the subject. “Winn, run his vitals again.”
“Actually, I feel fine besides being really tired,” Garth replied. “This bed isn’t really comfortable.”
“It’s better than the cots here, I’m afraid,” Alex said regretfully.
Kara bit her lip as she looked at her wife.
Alex knew exactly what she was thinking. “Are you sure you want to do that?”
Kara nodded.
“Alright,” Alex sighed longsufferingly. “Like I said, I trust you. You might want to ask everyone else, though.”
“Good point,” Kara nodded. “I’ll be right back.”
The others looked confused.
“She’s going to get permission for you two to stay with us,” Alex explained.
Garth and Imra lit up like it was Christmas morning. “Oh my goodness, that would be the most amazing thing ever!” Imra admitted.
Kara came back with a skip in her step and a grin on her face. “It hardly took convincing for the kids. Maggie and Lena are cautious, but agreeable.”
“Do you two have clothes on the ship?” Alex asked them. “I’m assuming you’re going to want to wash up and change?”
Imra nodded. “Yes, we would like that very much. Thank you.”
“I’ll go get J’onn,” Kara told them, heading back upstairs.
“You just rest here for a little while,” Alex told Garth. “Winn can stay with you while we go get your stuff.”
Garth looked starstruck as he grinned. “Winn Schott! Amazing!”
Alex chuckled at Winn’s flustering.
When Kara reappeared with J’onn, he and the pair of Danvers took Imra back to their ship to gather their belongings.

Jamie and Jessie were bouncing excitedly in their seats. They were extremely excited to meet the two new aliens from the future. Maggie and Lena had made them shower and get ready for bed, but they knew trying to get the girls to sleep right now would be impossible. Lena tried to distract them with a game of chess, but the girls’ attention just wasn’t on it. When the twins finally heard the front door open, they ran to the foyer to meet their guests, while Maggie and Lena slowly waddled behind them.
Kara entered first, and when she saw the kids there bouncing excitedly, she chuckled. “Hi, guys!”
“Hi, Mama!” they greeted her with hugs and kisses. “Hi, Mommy!” they said, giving Alex love too.
“Hi, babies!” Alex squeezed them both as hard as she could. “Girls, this is Imra and Garth,” she introduced as the couple came in behind her.
The twins waved enthusiastically. “Hello!”
“Oh, my goodness!” Imra exclaimed. “They’re so beautiful, and they look just like you, Kara!”
The twins beamed at the compliment.
Kara giggled. “Yep. There’s no denying them.”
Maggie and Lena finally caught up to everyone. Kara introduced them to Imra and Garth, and greeted her wives with kisses.
“Wow, it is such an honor to meet you two, but is there something in the water around here?” Garth chuckled, seeing that there were three pregnant women.
Kara blushed. “That’s an embarrassing story that I won’t be telling you.”
Jamie breathed a sigh of relief.
“Yes, we’re going to have our hands full. That’s for certain,” Lena chuckled.
“How far along are you?” Imra asked.
“We’re at week 31,” Maggie answered. “Just a few more weeks to go.”
Imra grinned. “It’s so amazing to meet Supergirl’s family. It’s an absolute honor, truly.”
The Danvers all grinned at her.
“Yeah,” Garth agreed. “This is like a dream come true.”
“What’s the future like?” Jessie asked eagerly.
Garth shrugged. “Strange as it may sound, the 31st century is actually not that different from today.”
“What, better smartphones?” Lena quipped.
“What's a phone?” Imra frowned in confusion.
“‘What's a phone?’ Oh, the future's awesome,” Lena chuckled.
“Well, technology has developed beyond imagining,” Garth explained. “But, at the end of the day, it's still in service of communicating with each other, and entertaining each other, and also killing each other. In this day, or in a thousand years, conflict is constant, but so is strength.”
“And that's where we come in,” Imra added.
“So, what are you, soldiers?” Maggie asked.
“The governments were overwhelmed by violence, by chaos,” Imra continued. “The House of El organized us. And we banded together to help Earth's leaders keep the peace, at home and in the stars. We call ourselves The Legion of Superheroes. And we exist because of you.”
“Because of me?” Kara squeaked.
Garth and Imra nodded.
“You inspire people,” Garth told her. “So, when they founded the Legion, they chose to use you as an example of what we could be. Of what we aspire to be.”
Imra spoke on, “When I learned about your life and work and your compassionate fight for justice and your devotion to protecting others, everything just crystallized. Your example gave my life purpose. I can't express how much it means for me to meet you in person.”
Imra was giving her such a reverent look, Kara had to look away for a moment.
“So, a Legion of Superheroes?” Lena commented. “Sounds formidable.”
Garth sighed. “Not nearly enough. The future has some bad things happening.”
“Yeah, the darkness is spreading,” Imra finished.
“What's that? What do you mean?” Kara worried.
Garth sighed. “So 1,000 years from now, this farming planet, Winath, my home planet, goes dark. My twin sister Ayla went to check it out.”
“You have a twin too?” Jessie asked excitedly.
Garth chuckled. “Yes, and so does our other team mate Reep.”
“Cool!” the twins replied in stereo.
“Anyways, please continue,” Alex requested.
“Winath was a paradise,” Imra continued. “But Ayla made planet-fall and found it…” she shook her head.
“Decimated,” Garth finished. “It was completely dried out.”
“The creatures that did this, we call them the Blight,” Imra informed them. “They consume everything in their path.”
“And one of our teammates found a way to stop them, but they were on us before we could use it,” said Garth.
“So we hid the information in the safest place we could. Our DNA. Where it can't be lost, can't be stolen. It’s written in our genes,” said Imra.
“So, if we die, our DNA never makes it to the future. And everything's lost.”
“But while we were on the run, we found a disruption, and ended up crash landing on Earth 12,000 years ago.”
“We set the cryo sleep for this year, but a month from now. Obviously, we were awoken a bit early.”
“Well, that’s probably for the best,” Lena pointed out. “What with the Worldkiller and all.”
“Actually, it turns out there are three of them,” Alex informed them with her hands on her hips.
“Oh, God!” Maggie groaned.
“That’s why we’re here,” Imra explained. “In 1,000 years, Pestilence evolves into the blight. We’re here to try and keep that from happening, and hopefully we won’t die in the process.”
“One of them is called Pestilence?” Maggie frowned. “What does she do?”
“In this time period?” Imra shrugged. “We’re not sure.”
“Wait,” Alex raised her hand. “I thought you said the House of El were the best historians in the future.”
Garth nodded. “Well, yes, they are, but even they have some gaps. In the year 2455, Earth experienced a third-degree extinction phenomenon.”
“Humanity came together,” Imra assured, “But Earth suffered catastrophic destruction. It wasn't just loss of life, it was its history, culture, art, music.”
“It was everything interesting,” Garth complained.
Imra continued, “The House of El taught us everything we know. From Aristotle, Shakespeare, Bon Jovi…”
Maggie snorted.
“But we have some gaps. And, unfortunately, even if we know the end result, we don't necessarily know how it happens,” Garth finished.
Kara blew out a hard breath with her hands on her hips. “Wow, OK. That’s a bummer.”
“What’s Bon Jovi?” Jessie demanded.
Maggie snickered.
“It’s a musician and a band,” Alex explained. “A little cheezy for my taste, though. I wonder who the Bon Jovi fan was… Is? Will be? Hey, this time travel thing is confusing.”
“You’re telling me,” Garth chuckled.
“You mean it’s not your favorite music?” Imra frowned.
The Danvers all shook their heads.
“Are you kidding?” Maggie chuckled. “Kara still wants JT and Britney back together.”
“Who?” Imra shrugged.
Maggie waved her hand at them. “Never mind. Pop culture reference.”
“Pop culture?” Garth scrunched his brow.
“Oh, Lord. Never mind.” Maggie shook her head.
“Shall we give you the tour?” Kara offered.
“Yes, please,” Imra smiled, taking Garth’s hand.
“This is just the foyer,” Kara said, indicating the room that they were in.
Imra and Garth looked around, taking in the scenery. There were some fancy abstract art pieces, a few little benches that lined the walls around the water feature, and a giant chandelier hanging from the ceiling. In the far back of the foyer was an archway that clearly led to the dining room.
Kara pointed to her fish in the water feature and named them off. “And there’s Judy, Audrey, Gene, and Buster.”
“Aww!” Imra and Garth cooed.
They walked through the rest of the house, showing Garth and Imra how to work certain things, like the sinks and showers and whatnot. The Danvers encouraged the couple from the future to take the time to get washed up and rested. They had yet to hear anymore from any Worldkiller, let alone all three, so there was no need to worry about that for the night. Hopefully, everyone would be able to rest tonight, assuming the babies didn’t keep the mommies up from kicking them at ungodly hours.
Alex and Kara sent the twins to bed, and the four adults went downstairs to the kitchen to talk while they had a snack. They all had quite a bit of catching up to do tonight.

“The NCPD is investigating another fatal shooting involving the One-Seven Gang which happened this morning. Witnesses say they saw a man belonging to the One-Seven Gang open fire on a convenience store, killing the owner.”
“Damn it!” Maggie growled. “I need to get back to my real job!”
Lena pursed her lips. “Let me see what I can do. I have something that might help.”
The Latina sighed heavily. “You can talk to the Chief till you’re blue in the face, he’s not going to lift my desk duty.”
“Have a little faith in me, darling,” Lena smirked.
Maggie blinked. “What have you got up your sleeve?”
“A little something Winn and I have been cooking up when you guys weren’t looking. We wanted it to be a surprise this weekend, but I might be able to persuade him to allow an early reveal.”
Maggie batted her eyelashes at Lena.
“I’m not saying a word yet,” Lena tisked.
The detective pouted at her, but Lena just kissed her. Maggie knew that it was only the presence of practical strangers in the same room that Lena didn’t straight up bite her protruded lip.
“Is it something for just Maggie, or for all of us?” Jessie wanted to know.
Lena pursed her lips. “Well, I suppose it’s for everyone, but I don’t know if some of you’ll ever need it. Let me talk to Winn before I say any more.”
Alex looked at her watch. “You girls need to get dressed before your tutor gets here.”
The kids grumbled, but headed upstairs to change. Everyone had had breakfast, and the adults would all be leaving as soon as the twins’ tutor showed up.
Garth and Imra both looked worlds better than they had the day before. Now that they’d had plenty of time to rest and eat, their color had been restored to them, and they were both even more beautiful than before, though Garth’s hair still looked quite wild. Kara looked forward to training with them and seeing what they could do. Lena had insisted that Kara spend the day at the DEO with them, claiming that she would fill James in on things when she had the chance. That was assuming Lucy hadn’t told him already. At any rate, she would talk to James at Catco. Kara didn’t need to be there as much as she was needed at the DEO right now.
“Do you think we could check on the other members of the Legion today? Maybe wake them up?” Imra asked with her big doe eyes.
“Of course,” Kara answered. “I’ll get J’onn to take us back to your ship.”
“How many more people are on board?” Alex checked.
“Four,” Garth replied. “Querl Dox, Rokk Krinn, Reep Daggle, and Liin-El.”
Kara perked up. “There’s a future El on your ship?”
Imra elbowed Garth in the ribs. “Well, we were going to surprise you, but yes. There is a member of the House of El. When he found out where we were going, he insisted we bring him along. He’s a little young, but he’s strong and capable.”
“No offense, but I really don’t think I can handle six extra people staying here right now,” Lena piped up. “Pregnant women need their space. If you don’t want to stay at the DEO, I can always get you a couple of hotel rooms.”
“Oh my, that’s very generous of you, but it’s not necessary,” Imra told her. “We definitely don’t want to put you out.”
“Oh, I assure you, it wouldn’t make me bat an eye,” Lena insisted. “I’ll have my assistant call around and find you something good.”
“Thank you so much, Lena,” Garth gushed. “You truly are as generous as the historians say.”
“I’m sorry, the historians say things about me?” Lena raised her brow.
Imra and Garth smiled and nodded.
“Like what?” Lena’s curiosity was piqued.
“Well, I can’t give away the future,” Imra chuckled. “But in general, they say you’re one of the most intelligent and innovative people ever born, that you’re very beautiful - actually Supergirl’s wives are all heralded as being beyond beautiful, which we can see is very true. They say you’re very kind and generous, and that countless people owe you their lives, possibly even more so than Supergirl.”
Kara, Alex, and Maggie all grinned proudly at Lena, who had tears in her eyes, and her lip was trembling.
“I don’t suppose they say anything about me?” Maggie asked.
“I don’t know, Garth, what do they say about the detective?”
Garth blushed, “Um, well… Ahem… They say if there’s a case no one else can solve that it should be given to you, and you’ll figure it out. They say that you’re instrumental in uniting people of all kinds of backgrounds. They say the Danvers household would never have survived without you on countless occasions. That you’re the rock of the family when things get tough.”
Maggie looked stunned. She didn’t actually think they would know about her, but to hear this? That was amazing. Kara kissed her on the temple.
“What about Alex?” Kara inquired, knowing Alex wouldn’t ask about herself.
Imra and Garth shared a look, and Kara wondered if they were communicating via Imra’s telepathy. Imra smiled adoringly at Alex and answered, “Among other things, which I can’t tell you, you’re known as being the one to call when Supergirl is in need. Kara’s having a bad day? Call Alex. Kara needs a pep talk? Call Alex. If Supergirl can’t fight anymore, call Alex. You are known as being the reason Kara could ever feel at home on this planet, and the reason she became Supergirl in the first place. Other people may get their inspiration from Supergirl, but Supergirl gets her inspiration from you.”
Alex tried not to cry - she really did - but damn, if that wasn’t the best thing she’d ever heard.
The twins came down at exactly the wrong time, hearing nothing of the conversation and only seeing the mommies crying. “What’s wrong?” they panicked, running to them. “What happened?”
“It’s OK, babies,” Alex assured. “Imra and Garth were just telling us some very nice things.”
“Nice things?” Jessie asked cautiously.
“Very nice,” Maggie promised.
The twins looked cautiously at the pair from the future. They were about to ask what kind of things had been said, but the doorbell rang before they could even form the words.
The TV popped on to show their math tutor Tyler on the front door security camera. The twins hurried to let him in. So far, he was their favorite because he had been helping them breeze through 8th grade math so they could get to the high school levels. So far, they were more than halfway through, so he was going to start giving them sneak peaks at some of the new stuff they’d be learning. All the other tutors were being quite strict in making sure they studied hard for their other subjects. Tyler claimed they hadn’t gotten to the hard part yet.
The girls led him into the living room where he talked about today’s game plan with the adult Danvers. The kids got their stuff out of the closet and kissed their mothers and stepmothers goodbye for now, then followed Tyler into the dining room where they had room to sprawl their books out.
The adult Danvers gathered their things, kissed each other goodbye and headed out to their respective jobs. Garth and Imra followed closely behind Alex and Kara, climbing into the back seat of the Land Rover.
“Is this really safe?” Imra worried. “I heard cars were dangerous.”
“This didn’t occur to you last night?” Garth chuckled.
Imra playfully jabbed him in the leg with her finger. “I was tired last night.”
“It’s only dangerous if you’re a bad driver,” Alex soothed her. “Kara’s good. Don’t worry.”
Kara got them to the DEO safe and sound, much to Imra’s relief. Then they headed for the briefing room where J’onn, Winn, and Lucy were waiting for them.
“Wow, you two look so much better today!” Winn exclaimed to Imra and Garth. “I’m so glad.”
“Thank you,” Imra smiled. “We feel much better today.”
“Yeah,” Garth agreed. “Some sleep and some food really did us some good.”
“They were hoping to wake up the rest of the team,” Kara informed them.
J’onn put his hands on his hips. “How many people are we talking here?”
“Four more,” Garth answered.
“Lena’s going to get them some hotel rooms,” Kara informed them chipperly. “That way you don’t have to babysit. And they don’t have to sleep on those uncomfortable cots you have here.”
“You made Mon-El sleep on those cots for months,” Winn pointed out.
Kara smirked. “I regret nothing.”
“Alright, if you guys want to head out, Lucy and I will hold down the fort,” Alex told them.
J’onn nodded, and he, Kara, Imra, and Garth headed back to the alien ship.

Imra checked everyone’s vitals, and they looked good. “I’m going to wake them up one at a time,” she informed them. “Just to make sure everything goes smoothly.” She punched a few buttons on the computer console. “First, Brainy.”
The computer beeped, and they all heard a whirring and hissing as the first pod began to drain. ‘Brainy’ showed signs of waking as soon as the pod drained below his chin. Kara was surprised to find that his skin was blue, and his hair was white, and he had three discs on his forehead that were slightly bigger than a quarter that all seemed to emit a strange blue light. Judging by Imra and Garth's lack of reaction to this, she figured it was normal, so she refrained from panicking. By the time the pod was fully drained, Brainy was ready to come out. Garth and Imra helped him stand, and when he laid eyes on Supergirl, his jaw dropped.
“It’s you,” Brainy said.
“Hi!” Kara smiled and waved at him. “How’s it going?”
“You’re talking to me,” he said. “Supergirl is talking to me,” he said to Imra.
Imra and Kara giggled.
“Welcome to the 21st Century,” J’onn greeted him. “I’m J’onn J’onnz.” He reached out his hand in invitation.
Brainy shook it with a look of fascination in his eyes. “It’s an honor to meet you, Mr. Jonzz, sir. I am Brainiac-5. Half-computer, half-organic lifeform, all Coluan, and, not to brag, but a 12th-level intellect. My name is Querl Dox, but the Legionnaires just call me Brainy.”
Kara offered her hand next. “Kara Danvers. It’s nice to meet you, Brainy.”
“The pleasure is all mine, Supergirl,” Querl stated seriously.
“You can just call me Kara,” the blonde waved a hand at him.
Brainy grinned. “Thank you, Kara.”
“Let’s wake Cosmic Boy next,” Garth suggested. “He’s going to be a little upset that we woke up first, and not him.”
“Oh, he’ll be fine,” Imra waved him off. Nonetheless, she told the computer to wake him next.
When their leader was conscious again, he started to panic a little, “Brainy? What’s going on? Why are you guys already awake? Did something happen?”
“Hey, take it easy,” Imra soothed him. “Yes, the ship was hit with a torpedo, and it woke me up, and then I had to wake Garth or he was going to die. Luckily, Supergirl and her friends were here to help.”
Their leader finally turned to look at the others. “Oh!” he seemed to calm significantly at seeing the Kryptonian. “Supergirl,” he breathed. “It’s so amazing to meet you.”
The fascination and awe in his eyes were too much for Kara. She cleared her throat and busied herself with studying his features. He wasn’t quite as handsome as Garth, but he was pleasant enough. His black hair was slicked back from the water, his eyes were a gorgeous chocolate brown, and his eyelashes went on for miles. “It’s nice to meet you…”
“Rokk,” he told her. “Rokk Krinn. AKA Cosmic Boy.”
“Boy?” Kara frowned in confusion. “No offence, but you don’t look very young. At least, not enough for you to be called a boy instead of a man.”
“I could say the same thing about Supergirl,” Rokk parried.
Kara smirked. “Touché. I tried to get them to change it, but I wasn’t successful in the least.”
“Same,” Rokk chuckled.
Kara finally shook his hand with a grin. “This is J’onn J’onnz,” she introduced.
Rokk’s eyes lit up. “Amazing!” he said, shaking J’onn’s hand. “It’s such an honor to meet you.”
“That’s very kind of you, Rokk,” J’onn nodded at him.
“Who’s next?” Rokk asked.
“Reep,” Imra replied, touching the computer controls again.
They waited the two minutes it took for the pod to drain before helping their friend stand.
“Reep, meet Supergirl and J’onn J’onnz,” Imra grinned.
Reep turned and looked at the pair and transformed about 20 times into various animals, humanoids, and things in between before settling down into his original form with orange skin, pointed ears, antennae, and no hair. “Crief! It’s really Supergirl!” He ran across the floor to eagerly shake her hand in both of his.
Kara laughed. She liked his bubbly energy. “Hello, Reep. I’m Kara. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“You know my name?” he asked. “She knows my name!” he exclaimed to his colleagues.
“Yeah, we just told her, you Narf,” Rokk rolled his eyes.
“Oh, right,” Reep chuckled. “They call me Chameleon.”
“What’s a Narf?” Kara wanted to know.
“Someone who acts silly all the time,” Imra informed her.
“Oh. So, it's like an insult?”
Imra shrugged. “Not really.”
“Where’s Liin?” Reep asked, looking around.
“We were saving him for last,” Imra smirked.
“Oooh, the big reveal!” Reep exclaimed, clapping his hands.
Imra raised her finger in the air. “I feel the need to say, Kara, that Liin is a long way down your line of descendants. He doesn’t have the same powers as you. If you’re disappointed, please don’t show it. He really looks up to you, and he’s proud that he comes from your lineage. If he thought you were disappointed in him, he’d be crushed.”
“If he truly fights for justice and compassion, then I couldn’t possibly be disappointed in him,” Kara stated firmly.
Imra smiled sweetly, nodded and poked at the computer console, as the team waited silently for their youngest member to awaken.
When the young man opened his eyes and saw all of his compatriots staring at him and grinning, he grew paranoid. “Uh… Why are you guys all looking at me like that?”
Imra nodded her head in the direction of J’onn and Kara, and Liin’s eyes nearly bugged out of his head.
“Is it really you?” He walked slowly toward the Kryptonian.
“It’s me,” she spoke reverently.
When Liin stood in front of her, she reached out for him, but he backed away, saying, “I’m all wet.”
“I don’t care,” she insisted. “My suit dries fast.” When he allowed her to hug him, she was overcome with emotion, which she did her best to hold back. Her heart was racing. This was one of her descendants. Her family not only survives, but seems to thrive into the future. She was a little star struck herself now. The young man was taller than James, and almost as muscular as Douglas, with short black hair, green eyes and pale skin. “So, what’s your hero name?” she asked, pulling back and examining his face.
“Jack Frost,” he informed her. He opened his hand in front of her and revealed a giant snowflake.
“Cool!’ she exclaimed, picking up the ice and studying it. It was exquisite.
With a wave of his hand, the ice dissipated, and it was like nothing had been there.
“Cool!” she said again. “One of my sons is going to be named Jack.”
“I know,” he winked. “It’s a family name… Wait, ‘going to be named?’ He’s not born yet?”
“Nope. The babies aren’t due for a few more weeks,” she replied.
“Aww,” Liin pouted, “I really wanted to meet him.”
“Sorry, sweetie.”
Liin turned to J’onn, offering his hand. “Liin. Or Jack.”
“J’onn Jonnz,” the Martian replied, shaking hands.
Liin’s eyes widened, and he grinned. “No way!”
“Yes way,” Kara chuckled.
“It’s so amazing to meet you! Wow!” Liin gushed.
J’onn gave him a warmish look. “Thank you, young man. Well, now that we have everyone, we should head back to the DEO,” he told them.
“Uh, can we change first?” Reep asked, indicating their dripping tank tops and shorts.
“Yes, of course,” J’onn nodded. “No weapons.”
“Mr. J’onnz, sir, we are the weapons,” Brainy stated plainly with a pat on J’onn’s arm as he walked away.
Kara giggled. “I can’t wait to see what you all can do!”
“I really hope we’re not making a big mistake here,” J’onn muttered so only Kara could hear him.
“Well,” Kara whispered back, looking around. “If they’re out to get us, why go through all the trouble of this whole future story? I’m feeling good about this. I really think we can trust them.”
The members of The Legion of Superheroes returned clad in similar attire made of what looked like black leather, but Kara would bet it was probably made of something much more complex and probably alien. Winn was gonna go gaga. Kara swallowed a laugh at the thought. “You guys look amazing. Besides the Crest of El, what are the other symbols on your suits?”
Brainy shrugged. “Just fancy designs to represent our aliases in The Legion.
“Aha,” Kara nodded. “I see it now.”
“Shall we?” J’onn urged.
“We’re ready,” Rokk nodded.
XXXXXXXXXXXX
Kara spent the day training with The Legion, learning their powers and getting to know them. Garth/Lightning Lad’s powers were that of electricity, similar to Livewire, but Kara suspected his was a bit stronger and more controlled than Leslie’s. He could do much more subtle things, like small sparks and making the hairs on her neck stand up. It was strange, but cool. Brainy was a marvel to watch. No one could hit him, no matter how hard they tried. He just always seemed to know what his opponent was going to do before they did it, and immediately ducked away. Kara was amazed. Cosmic Boy had the powers of magnetism, and he carried around little metal discs that attached to his suit that he used as projectiles and stepping stones. It was extremely fun to watch his creative fighting style. She had seen a bit of what both Chameleon and Jack Frost could do on the ship, but again, it was a marvel to see just how much they could do. Unfortunately, Imra’s telepathy didn’t work with Kara, but the woman had incredible strength in her powers of telekinesis. She could lift extremely heavy things, and move them through the air with perfect accuracy. By the end of the morning, Kara was having a blast with the team’s witty banter. Reep/Chameleon was especially hilarious.
Of course, everyone wanted to see what the crew could do, so J’onn, Winn, Alex, Lucy, and Vasquez were all standing on the sidelines watching. Winn was taking notes as fast as his fingers could type on his tablet. Alex desperately wanted to get in on the sparring, but no one would let her. The closest she got was that Brainy let her try to hit him for a while. Of course, she couldn’t, and when Kara deemed Alex’s heart rate to be at the maximum she would allow, Alex was forced back to the sidelines. Lucy was allowed to spar a bit, but most of them were way too strong for her, so after getting her ass kicked a few times, she contented herself with standing with the others.
Around 12:30 in the afternoon, Kara heard Alex’s stomach rumble, and she put a stop to the session so she could go eat lunch with her wife. She encouraged the gang to eat lunch at the DEO for now, and she would get them something better for dinner later. That got her thinking that she should probably get them some clothes too. They shouldn’t really walk around in public in their combat gear. It might alarm people. Their future-style clothing wasn’t much better.
Alex suggested that they grab some clothes from the DEO for now, and they could go shopping after lunch, so that’s what they did. Alex and Kara took the whole group to the mall and got each member of the Legion a few outfits to last them until they had more time to shop. Of course, people stared at them, but the only ones who came up to them were a handful of people who recognized Kara as Supergirl. They asked for autographs and pictures, and Kara graciously obliged, begging them not to post the pictures until later so she didn’t get mobbed in the middle of the store.
When they were done shopping, Alex and Kara took the members of The Legion to the Baldwin where Lena had gotten them a few rooms. They got all checked in, and changed into their new clothes before wandering around the hotel to see what amenities were available. There was an indoor pool, a Jacuzzi, a gym, a bar/restaurant and a gift shop. Satisfied, they took everyone back to the DEO. Maggie would be bringing the twins up for their training soon, and Kara wanted them to meet the team and possibly train with them a bit. She knew the kids were going to have fun today.
Much to everyone’s surprise, Lena showed up to the DEO at around 5:30. She introduced herself to everyone, and then took Winn aside to speak with him in private. When the pair came back, they were both grinning. Lena approached Maggie and handed her a small black box that looked like an Ipod mini, but it had no buttons. “Put this in your pocket, or clip it to your pants. It’ll work either way.”
Maggie examined the little box before following directions and putting it in her pocket. “What is it?”
“Do you trust me?” Lena’s eyes sparkled.
“With my life,” Maggie nodded.
“That’s what I wanted to hear.” Lena stepped a few paces away from Maggie, turned to face her with a wicked grin, pulled her hand gun out of her purse and shot at Maggie before anyone even knew what was going on. The whole room watched in shock as the bullet hit a force field around the detective and bounced impotently to the ground in front of her.
After a few moments of utter disbelief, Maggie grinned. “Holy shit, babe!” She laughed a little hysterically and examined the little box again. “That’s amazing!”
“Great Rao, you scared the life out of me!” Kara exclaimed. “I thought for a second that you were some sort of evil shape shifter, and I was about to lose my Maggie.”
There was a chorus of emphatic agreement around them.
Lena smirked. “Sorry. It should work to block Alex’s and your alien guns, as well as Kara’s heat vision. Among other things.” She moved slowly back to her wife and caressed her cheek. “See? Gentle touching goes right through the force field, but anything going fast enough to harm you gets blocked. “It was Winn’s idea. I just tweaked it a little bit. We were going to reveal it at the baby shower, but I don’t want you to have to be miserable and bored any longer than necessary. Maybe if you show this to the Chief, he’ll let you back on a case or two to keep you happy.”
Maggie leaned in and kissed Lena softly. “You’re the best.”
Lena handed another shield device to Alex. “Here you are, my love.”
Alex grinned. “Thank you,” she said with a kiss.
“Don’t go getting into any unnecessary trouble now,” Kara warned them.
Alex rolled her eyes.
“Winn, let me buy you dinner later this week?” Maggie offered. “It’s the least I can do.”
Winn grinned. “Well, I just wanted to keep you mothers-to-be safe. I wasn’t expecting anything in return, but I would love to have dinner with you all this week. Can I bring Lyra?”
“Duh,” Maggie said, chucking him on the shoulder playfully. “If I feel up to it, I might be able to do you one better and actually cook something, but no promises.”
“Oh, God,” Winn sighed, rubbing his stomach. “Just the thought of your cooking is making me hungry.”
Maggie chuckled. “Well, it is pretty close to dinner time.”
“Speaking of dinner time,” Kara interrupted, “What should we get our guests for dinner?”
“Pizza!” Jessie suggested.
Kara nodded emphatically. “Good call.”
“What’s pizza?” Imra asked.
“It’s the second best thing in the whole world!” Jessie replied.
“What’s the first?” Brainy inquired.
Jessie’s smile turned all mushy. “My Ruby.”
“You have a ruby?” Liin asked in surprise.
“Her girlfriend’s name is Ruby,” Alex explained.
“Oh, right, right.”
“OK, well, let’s go back to our house for dinner, and then we’ll take you to the hotel for the night. Sound good?” Kara asked.
The members of the Legion all gave their approval, and they headed out. Since no one could drive at the moment except Kara, Lena called Andy and had him drive the limo over and transport The Legion back to the mansion. The Danvers all piled into their minivan and headed home while Alex ordered pizzas on the way.
When they all got home, they all settled in the living room while they waited on the food.
“It’s so interesting seeing what life is like nowadays,” Imra told them with a grin.
“Oh, yes, this must be like Medieval times for you,” Lena chuckled. “How have you liked it?”
“Everyone’s been very kind so far. I’m enjoying being here.”
The men of The Legion all agreed with her.
“We should watch a movie!” Jessie exclaimed.
Alex looked at her phone. “Actually, it’s time for the news.” She flipped on the TV, and found their favorite news channel.
They were just starting to give the weather forecast for the next week, so they hadn’t missed anything. The first story was just an update that they had no leads on who had caused the mysterious symbols etched into the city. The next one was about some road closings in the area. The next was a story that they had been both fearing and waiting for at the same time.
“In other news, is Supergirl not what she seems? One Midvale native claims so,” the newscaster spoke.
Vickie Donahue’s face appeared on their TV. “Kara Danvers never had a child in her life. I’m here to tell you that Alex Danvers was the one that had those children, and there’s only two people in this world that have those powers. Either Superman had an affair with a minor, or Kara Danvers is more than meets the eye. I know for a fact that those two were sleeping together. I caught them with my own two eyes when we were teenagers. Now, I just saw Kara a few days ago, and not only is her ‘wife’ Lena pregnant, but so are Alex and her ‘wife’ Maggie. You tell me what’s going on.”
“Fuck!” Alex and Maggie said at the same time.
Kara dropped her head into her hands in embarrassment. “Oh, Rao.”
“Uh… Was that not common knowledge already?” Garth grimaced.
“No,” Jamie sighed. “No, it was not. Did you guys know?”
“Yeah,” Rokk shrugged. “Supergirl is… different. Everyone in the Legion knows that.”
“And it doesn’t bother you?” Kara pouted.
“Nah. Things are a lot more… free? In the future,” Reep explained. “Polyamory isn’t that uncommon, and people’s sexuality is a lot more fluid than the 21st Century.”
“Must be nice,” Maggie grumbled.
Of course, the Danvers phones all started ringing. People had heard the story and called for comment. They answered the calls of the people that were important to them and ignored everyone else. Not that many people had their numbers anymore since they had them changed, but still, there were a few random people they didn’t want to speak to. By the time they were done, they’d spoken to Eliza, J’onn, and all the Superfriends, the Kavanaughs, Marcus and his mother, and Shayla and her mother.
Thankfully, everyone was simply calling to see if they had seen the news and to make sure they were alright. Kara was extremely embarrassed. She really wanted to crawl under a rock and die. Now she was going to start getting followed again, and people were going to be asking a ton of personal questions that she didn’t want to answer. She knew she told Alex it would be OK if this information came out, but now she didn’t feel so confident. Her lip trembled, and even though she tried to hold it in, tears streamed down her face anyway.
Alex pulled Kara into her arms, and the Kryptonian buried her nose in her wife’s neck. “I’m so sorry, Angel,” she soothed. “It’ll be OK. We’ll get through this.” She felt the baby moving around, and she moved Kara’s hand over her belly to feel it. “Hey, your daughter wants your attention.”
Kara moved her head to lay on Alex’s tummy, caressing her with her hand. “Hello, my little one. Mama loves you so much. You’re so perfect. I’m so looking forward to meeting you.”
“Don’t worry about what people think of you, Kara,” Alex replied in Kryptonese. “Think about your children. Think of how beautiful they’re going to be. Think about how much joy they’re going to bring us.”
Kara kissed Alex’s stomach while the baby still flailed around. “Don’t hurt your mommy, now, little one.”
Alex stroked Kara’s hair. “She likes it when you talk to her.”
Kara started singing a Kryptonian lullabye, and everyone watched and listened in fascination.
“That was beautiful,” Liin commented when she finished. “You have such an incredible singing voice.”
“Thank you,” Kara blushed. “I’m sorry you had to see me break down like that.”
“Don’t be silly,” Rokk told her. “You have every right to be upset. That woman was horrible for saying the things she said and exposing you like that.”
“Yeah, what’s her problem?” Reep huffed.
“It’s a long story,” Alex sighed. “But basically, she’s disgusted with Kara’s and my relationship.”
“Why?” Imra wanted to know.
Alex sighed again. “When Kara came to Earth, she needed a safe place to live, so my parents took her in and adopted her. So, we’re technically sisters by law. We don’t see each other that way, obviously, but I guess Vicki did. She really did catch us in the act, and ever since then, she’s been really nasty to us.”
“That’s horrible,” Brainy frowned. “Could it have been because she was jealous? Perhaps she had feelings for one of you, and she’s angry that she was denied a chance.”
“I’ve wondered the same thing,” Maggie informed them. “If this isn’t some kind of revenge.”
“I hate that stupid lady!” Jessie hissed. “I want to punch her in her stupid face.”
Lena put her arm around her step-daughter to try and soothe her. “Shh, don’t upset the babies.”
“Sorry, little brothers,” Jessie said softly to Lena’s belly. “Sissy loves you.”
The boys kicked a little, but they seemed to be sleepy. Jessie could see one of them sucking their thumb. She grinned. “That’s so cute!” she exclaimed. “He’s sucking his thumb!”
Everyone awed.
“If you don’t feel up to taking us home, we could always just fly back to the hotel,” Imra suggested.
“No, no,” Kara replied. “I’m afraid that would freak people out. I’ll drive you back.”
“Can we come?” Jamie requested.
“There’s not going to be room, honey, I’m sorry,” Kara apologized. “I’ll be home before you have to go to bed.”
“OK,” Jamie pouted a little.
Kara kissed her daughters on the head, kissed her wives, and headed out with The Legion. She went in with them to make sure they got in OK, showed them how to use the showers, and bid them all goodnight.
When she got home, the twins were snuggling with Alex, Maggie, and Lena on the couch watching TV. She squeezed in next to Alex and buried her nose in Alex’s neck. By the time their show was over, Lena and Maggie were snoring loudly. Kara carried them upstairs and put them in their bed, then returned to the living room. She wanted to snuggle with her daughters. She hadn’t seen them much the last couple of days, and she missed them. She and Alex chatted with them about what they’d missed for a while before they all headed to bed for the night.
XXXXXXXXXXXX
The next morning, Kara got a phone call from J’onn.
“The police have confirmed, there were several members of the one-seven gang slaughtered overnight. Our investigations found out they were all killed by heat vision.”
Kara sighed. “It’s starting.”
