Chapter 70: Chapter 70 - Killing The Child

The girl sat there in shock about what had just happened. In mere seconds, her mother, the only person in her life that she had cared about and someone who had been protecting her since she was born, had been snuffed out like she was nothing.

Her life ended in a matter of seconds by someone who looked only a few years older than she did and without a sign of emotion on her face at that.

She was cruel, beyond cruel, to the little girl who had just witnessed the death of her loved one.

She felt the fear that any weak being would feel in such a situation, the fear that came with loss, but above all, the feeling that overpowered that fear and made her move was something much more primal.

Rage.

She felt a deep sense of hatred and anger towards Lily, who had snuffed out the only person in this world that she had cared for; she felt a deep burning desire to kill her.

To make her disappear just like the feeling of her mother had disappeared from her mind.

"How dare you!"

She yelled out as rage leaked from her words, the armed soldiers around Lily acting on the girl's will and emotions, aiming their weapons towards the girl.

"Die!"

She yelled out once more as the soldiers started firing at the girl at once, without caring about the fact that they may end up hitting each other. After all, they weren't in control; a child lost with rage was.

Lily was littered with bullets, yet she remained unmoving; the bullets came at her body but seemingly made contact with a hard surface of flesh, somewhat like a bony exoskeleton that protected her body from being harmed by the bullets.

'So I can tank these bullets.'

This had been something she had been meaning to test, just how strong her durability was in the face of bullets. And so far, it seemed rather good, given the fact that she had multiple DNAs that aided in her defense.

Granted, these bullets weren't the powerful stuff; there existed a lot stronger ammunitions in this world, and she was certain that her current capabilities couldn't tank those.

But these merely felt like a weak hit to her hard body.

She stood completely still until they ran out of ammo; some of the bullets that had bounced off her body ended up hitting nearby mind-controlled hostages or even the shooters themselves.

It was unfortunate, but there was little that could be done in such a situation to prevent them from being harmed. They would survive either way, and this made it easier for what Lily did next.

With the bullets stopping, Lily resumed her way toward the girl; this time, she moved quick.

She stopped in front of the girl before she could even realize it, and while the girl was inhuman, she wasn't a physical type like her mother was, so she couldn't resist or even have time to react to Lily's approach.

Grabbing her by the neck, Lily was going to kill her right there, and then so she could eat her and gain her ability, but she stopped.

Killing her right now would only release all the hostages from her mind control, which would make it hard to explain what was going on to them. While she could try using her ability on all of them, it would drain more energy than it was worth.

Better yet, she had a better idea.

With a mere thought, a worm came drilling out from the ground nearby, large enough to swallow the girl whole if it so pleased.

She had created it the first chance she got, having it spawn under the ground so that it could move around and, scout the area and be used if she needed it.

Lily was the hive; she was never alone, not even when it seemed like it.

"What are you! Why are you doing this!"

The girl began to rant and fight with Lily's hand to try and break free, but it was nothing in front of Lily's strength.

For a split second, Lily felt bad for what she was going to do; after all she was still killing a young child, sure she may have been doing things that weren't good, but that was because of her growth.

But Lily had already changed from the past her.

"I can feel your fear; it's so strong even if your other emotions are hidden, it leaks out."

The girl spoke as if trying to get into the mind of Lily, but Lily didn't need to be told what she felt. She knew she felt fear; she feared many things currently.

But that fear wouldn't cloud her mind.

Before the girl had the chance to use her mind-controlled targets, she threw her toward the worm.

The worm already knew what to do, grabbed her in its mouth, and dug into the ground quickly.

Then, once it was out of sight and out of the way, it clamped down.

Lily didn't even need to be connected to the worm to tell that the girl had died because the people around her had all returned to their senses, with no knowledge or memories of what happened while under control.

As for Lily, she took the chance to slip to another part of the building as she felt a mental rush from the new ability gained.

It was so different from all the X-Gene abilities she had gotten so far, yet so similar in a way.

'What is this?'

Holding her head with her hand, she struggled to focus her mind as she was suddenly assaulted by the emotions of everyone around her at once. It was drowning; she felt as if she was in an ocean without the ability to breathe.

It was heavy, so many feelings: anger, sadness, distress, fear, confusion, worry, doubt. There were so many emotions; it was chaotic.

Chapter 71: Chapter 71 - Mental Power

Normally, when her hive units ate something, she would only gain a portion of the makeup of the thing; that way, she would either need to eat more of it before her body could adapt and change to make it her own or give it time to try and rework and complete the missing information on its on.

It was no different this time around, either.

She knew her body would need time to rework the information before she could gain the ability the girl had; at least, that was what she thought. She was fine with this because she knew getting the time needed to eat the girl with the Agents around and returning back home soon would be hard.

What she didn't expect was that it would be so quick.

For some reason, be it because she had abilities similar to the one the girl had already, or maybe because of the way the makeup was structured, she was able to gain a large portion of it at once.

Her body was able to complete it and adapt to it quickly.

And that was when the burst of emotions came forth.

They weren't her emotions, at least not all of them. They were the emotions of everyone around her, within and even outside of the building.

It all came at her at once, like waves crashing against her over and over. It was hard to control the ability, even with her current capabilities.

If this was how the girl felt, even a fraction of this, it was no confusion as to why she turned out the way she did. This was nothing short of insanity, even for a being such a Lily that heard all of the hive at once, all the time.

She tried her best to suppress it, but it was difficult to do so with her current mental capabilities. She was able to lessen it to within a few feet of her, but even then, she could feel the emotions of the hostages.

The reason it was so hard to control was simple: the ability granted an aspect of her mental capabilities an enormous boost while not improving the other aspects.

To put it into perspective, it was as if you added a ton of sugar to a cake you were making without balancing out the other ingredients.

It would be overwhelming.

With one idea in mind of how to overcome this current issue, she turned to her information panel.

'Upgrade Mental to 300.'

It was overkill, but she wanted to get mental up for a while now but was hesitant in wasting mass; she was just looking for a reason to do so. And now she was provided with one.

Suddenly, her mental state spiked, and immediately, she could feel the changes it had over her mental capabilities and the abilities pertaining to her mental capabilities.

For one, she now had full control over the emotional control the girl had; she was able to turn it off freely, and if she wanted, she could even have it on all the time and only face minor issues due to it.

All she had to do was allocate a portion of her mind to continuously monitoring it.

The hive became much more clear as well; there was no longer any mental strain or limit because of the great distance between them. It was as if she was there with them; regardless of how far they were, she was perfectly connected to all of them.

'The evolution is much closer, I can feel it. I'm just missing something, something to trigger it.'

She could feel her body and mind was itching to evolve with how much it had changed since she was born, but something was still missing to add to the evolution, to trigger it, but she didn't know what yet.

She wasn't worried, though. She still had time, she wasn't in a rush, she didn't have some grand goal or purpose. She wasn't seeking revenge or honor.

She simply wanted to become strong enough to not fear anything in this cosmo, to not have to worry about anything. Even her race's goal was simply to grow and evolve without any specific purpose.

She thought to herself for a matter of a second, her thought process much faster thanks to her enhanced mental capabilities. Once out of her mind, she straightened her body and returned to the area with the hostages, having walked away to hide her discomfort.

The hole that the worm had created got buried when it returned to the ground as the stone and dirt caved in to fill in the gap it had created. At best, it would just look like a sinkhole caused by the construction that was halted, or even a hole that was meant for construction but never got finished; it was, after all, an abandoned building.

At worst, she could just use her ability on them again, but why would they question a minor detail such as a hole in the ground when they find their target dead and hostages freed.

Shortly after she returned, Agent May and Agent Coulson came into the building, the gunmen were already captured by the soldiers sent in, and the hostages were being taken care of.

"Where's the little girl?"

Asked Agent May before anything else. She glanced at the crowd and didn't see her presence, which made her concerned. The entire reason this situation escalated to this point was because of the little girl, after all.

"Little girl? There was no girl when I came in."

Lily said, outright lying. This would drastically change the outcome of the timeline, especially when it connects to S.H.I.E.L.D. since this situation was the reason May retired from the field and took on desk work.

Killing the little girl was a trauma that haunted her for years; however, due to Lily's interference, that didn't happen, and due to that the timeline would drastically change.

Even the smallest of changes can cause a ripple of effects.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

I know the updates have been slow lately. Honestly, it's hard to write a fic of Marvel due to how confusing the timeline is, and I don't want to mess it up, so I've just been unmotivated to write.

I'll keep writing, but it'll be slow, I plan to also try to get back into writing my other stuff or new stuff that I have in mind, so, yea.
