Chapter 39: Chapter 39 - Mass Hunting (3)

Standing in the middle of the three dead bodies, Lily called for her worm, which was nearby, and ordered it to do the same for them as she did for the old lady before.

She now had more food added to her list to eat later, but she didn't plan to stop yet; four was not enough.

With the bodies being taken care of, she returned to crawling along the ceiling of the tunnels in search of prey, her scouts already alerting her of two mutants that were a distance away from her, but they were the closes ones to her.

She quickly made her way over to them, taking much longer than she did to reach the ones before, nearly 15 minutes of running at her top speed on all four to reach the location.

Only stopping when she noticed two people within the distance, a female and what she could only assume was a male.

She assumed it because he didn't look very human.

Observing from the shadows, she was able to finally understand just how abnormal some of the Morlock mutants looked and why they had to hide in the tunnels to avoid people.

The female of the pair looked normal; she had blond hair and blue eyes, something you would expect from any regular girl in a coffee shop, the male on the other hand.

He had skin that was covered in boils that looked like they were ready to burst at a moment's notice, his hands only had four fingers, but as if making up for that, he had a third extra hand that came out of his chest.

He didn't have any hair; he was completely bald, and his head was covered in what looked like burn scars from chemical spills.

The oddest part was when Lily got closer to observe them from above; she was able to notice the man had four eyes, two were glowing red, and the other two looked relatively normal.

His mouth looked freakish; he had chelicerae, like that of a spider, except it was made out of flesh like a regular mouth would be.

He was odd to look at, to say the least, and that was coming from Lily, someone that literally ate people.

After observing the two for a few moments, Lily realized that they didn't seem to have anything to do with each other and that they were just talking in the middle of the tunnels after meeting up by chance.

This was interesting information because Lily knew that the Morlocks had different factions within them; she just didn't know which factions currently existed.

So this was confirmation that the different groups rarely interacted with each other outside of chance encounters and the leaders.

She watched them talk for a bit before deciding to jump down on the male while he wasn't paying attention to her.

She decided to go for him because his mutation clearly had something to do with his physical body, and she didn't want to take the risk that he might be able to counter her if she instead focused on the girl.

However, it seemed like she had guessed wrong this time because while killing the man was straightforward and confused the girl for a second, she quickly reacted.

A blast of energy came crashing into Lily.

She didn't have time to avoid the impact from the blast because of how close the girl was, but she was able to lessen the damage she took by blocking it with her arms.

Surprisingly it wasn't very powerful. It couldn't break any of her bones or even injure her, but it was strong enough to push her back and away from the girl.

Although it didn't push her very far, merely a few feet away.

"Who are you?!"

Yelled the girl with an angry yet panicked voice, her hands held out before, ready to defend against anything Lily would try to do.

"I'm just passing through; he looked like a threat, so I acted without thinking."

Lily replied to the girl as she backed up slightly, showing that she wasn't trying to be hostile.

Naturally, that didn't work. The girl was still on guard against her and simply spat back with her own words.

"So you attack before speaking? And now you try to play innocent."

Well, it was a fun conversation, but Lily really didn't need to have it.

The only reason she didn't do anything yet was because she was wary of the blast the girl did; she wasn't sure if she could make it stronger, which made her wary of acting.

But the girl's focus and guard towards her did lower her attention to the area around her, specifically below her.

"I'm not very innocent. I'm sorry."

Lily said as the worm burst out from below the girl and bit her leg off, causing the girl to fall to the ground in pain, screams bursting out of her as if they were trying to get free.

Acting quickly, Lily dashed forward and sliced the girl's head off, killing her in the process, but the girl had been quite loud in the tunnels with her piercing scream.

Thankful it only had one person nearby, and they were quite a distance away.

'That was far too messy; I didn't expect her to be able to do something like that. I really do wish I had a way to tell what abilities they had.'

She said to herself as she looked down at the mess around her.

With a soft sigh, she ordered her worm to deal with them, herself quickly jumping back to the ceiling to move from this area in case the yelling drew attention.

Chapter 40: Chapter 40 - Mass Hunting (4)

She crawled along the ceiling and made her way over to the next closest target, a male that was alone in the tunnel, and he was relatively close by, so he most likely was able to hear the echoes of the scream.

She got to him quickly, less than it took to get to the previous two, only to be met with the hulking body of the man.

To say he was big would be an understatement compared to everyone she had seen so far. He was much bigger than then, standing at easily over 7 feet in height with a body that seemed to have been made out of muscles.

He wore torn-up jeans and a ripped jacket without sleeves that he seemingly ripped off himself to make room for his large arms— which looked like they would be able to cover her entire head with his palms.

His head was bald, and his body had scars in some places, showing that he wasn't a stranger to being injured or even combat, and the fact that he was training seemed to prove just that.

But despite his appearance, she couldn't see any apparent mutation on him like the body of the other Morlocks; he didn't seem to have anything extra growing out of him.

Which meant that he was most likely a mutant that had to do with his physical capabilities.

Lily wouldn't have bothered risking it and fighting the man if it wasn't for that fact. Still, she wanted a mutation that would boost her physical capabilities.

While she was strong, she was nowhere near the physical capabilities of some heroes such as Captain America or even Spiderman, let alone powerhouses like Hulk, Abomination, Thor, and many others that could fight well with their bodies.

Her strength and physical capabilities came from the animals she had eaten, but even those had a limit to how much they could physically make her stronger; she would naturally still struggle or even lose when it came to Super Soldiers or other means.

That was why she wanted a mutation that would give her the physical capabilities to keep up with them, and she found one.

She just didn't know how potent it was and if it would pose a risk to even attempt fighting him yet.

Seeing the large man, Lily thought of a way to approach him, deciding to sneak closer to him from above like she did before and catch him off guard.

However, while it had worked before, it seemed like this time was much different.

The man spun around and flung what looked like a weight used for lifting at her. However, thanks to her keen senses and the fact that she was paying attention to him, she was able to quickly dodge it by jumping down.

The impact from the weight hitting the place she was caused the ceiling to crack slightly, and the weight got embedded into the ceiling, going to show just how much strength was behind the throw.

It also proved that he knew she was coming.

"Are you the one that's been causing trouble in the tunnels?"

The man asked, a scowl on his face as he watched her.

He clearly didn't like people sneaking up on him, even less so when they didn't have any good intentions behind their attempts like Lily clearly did.

'He knows about me?'

Word had most likely spread to the higher-ups in the underground about her appearance and actions since she had allowed the girl to return to their base.

She expected as much and didn't have an issue with it because she never expected to be able to stay hidden forever with her actions.

She was eventually going to get caught, especially with how many people she had been killing; they would start suspecting something and go looking for them, which was why she didn't mind too much when the girl from before had gotten away.

Plus, she was able to use the girl to find the Morlock's main base underground, and she planned to attack them eventually to get all she could.

"I suppose I am."

She replied, keeping her voice low and responding in a casual tone.

She tried her best to have the man lower his guard, but it wasn't working. He was clearly trained and experienced enough to not allow that to happen; he even moved into a fighting stance similar to that of a boxer.

'This was a bad idea.'

For the first time in a while, Lily actually regretted her actions. Her rashness for power made her act before fully knowing the capabilities of her enemy, and now she was in trouble.

He was clearly very strong, Lily wasn't under the impression that she would be able to match him with her body when it came to physical capabilities, so she would have to play dirty.

"What group do you belong to?"

The man asked as he kept an eye on her every action. He didn't think that such a young-looking girl would be the one responsible for the deaths on her own, so he assumed she had others that she worked with or for.

If it was the latter, then he could help her get away from them if they were forcing her to do it, but if it was the first, he would crush her.

Lily put on an act and pretended to be scared of the man, her eyes wavering as she spoke in a low tone once more.

"I am part of the Marauders."

She said, making that up on the spot.

While she knew about the Marauders and the fact that they were one of the enemies that the Morlocks faced, with the Marauders basically wiping out most of the Morlocks, she was curious to know if they already clashed.

Either way, it was just an excuse; she wanted to use it to see if he would react to it, giving her an idea about how along this timeline was because it seemed different from the MCU.

And seeing as he didn't have any noticeable reaction to the name, she could only assume he didn't know much about it just yet, which means this was most likely before the Marauders became a thing or exposed themselves.

This was good information, and it was something Lily wanted to make use of for herself.

"The Marauders?"

The man said as his eyebrows rose, his interest slightly peaked.

Lily saw this as a good sign and tried to take the chance to attack the man.
